When the review opened with Mike behind the kit, my first and immediate impression was "Wow! What a great sounding kit!" But when the Broadkaster was up, I really went Wow! For me, I'm diggin' the sound of the Broadkaster just a bit more. I didn't so much care for the Brooky's Floor Tom. It would be a close call, but I'm guessing that I would select the Broadkaster. Fortunately I have a Sonor Sunset Beech Bop kit that still does it for me, otherwise, I'd have to have that Great Gretsch Sound...... again!

    • @boomerguy9935

I have the Catalina Club Jazz kit and they are by far, the best value for the money. Even though they are made in Taiwan (in the DW drum factory), they are still made to Gretsch standards and definitely have "that Great Gretsch Sound". I've tailored mine to suit my taste and I am very satisfied with it.
Would I prefer a USA made bop kit? Probably. But, until I can afford to pull the trigger, I'm content. I've owned other name brands, sizes, models and types of wood. For me, Gretsch mahogany with the proper heads are the best.
I'm an old jazz player who prefers smaller venues at lower volume with brushes and wood tip sticks and dark cymbals. It's hard to believe I started out in the 60's in a garage band doing exactly the opposite of what I do now.
      Great video!

DCP cranking out the best videos in the biz so that we can make informed decisions, get our personal demo lists made, and choose the products that best fit our needs. Whether people realize it or not, that's an incredibly helpful level of customer service, even for those drummers who have not yet purchased from this A+ drum shop! In the past two weeks, members of my drum forum have purchased high end kits from Shane and the lads, and both customers were absolutely thrilled with the products, service, and delivery times. And, we got to enjoy some beautiful photos!
Today's winner: Broadkaster. Those thin shells sans re-rings were born to play in those sizes and tunings; everything you want a bop kit to sound like!

Is there any information about the way the drums were tuned in this video? These are all great kits, but they respond to spesific tunings differently. I have US Customs (6 piece kit) and broadkasters (4 piece bop sizes) and I used to have Brooklyns (bop sizes). What I found out that, Broadkasters and USA's respond amazingly to nearly every tuning, especially for recording situations, however, Brooklyns respond to low tunings better but not better then others, imho.. That's why I didn't keep brooklyns.
And the BITE.. in my opinion, Brooklyns didnt have enough fullness for their transients on higher tunings.. The US Customs and Broadkasters had the fullness needed on very much every tuning I tried. And they responded better on the mics, both stage and studio.
Please, I'd love to hear your experiences.
    All the best.

I think it's a question of overtones, the difference between the lines of kits.
They vary progressively more as the standard series are made more affordable.
Directness of the tone and audible reverberation with more emphasis on the drum heads is prominently displayed in the thinner or cheaper series kits.
For the money value, I thought that 2nd kit 3ply had the best tonal control and drum head sympathetic reverberation, voicing.
I understood more air reverberation from the shell difference between the lines of kits.
    All are superb, no doubt.
Specific reason to get each kit for preferred affordable price, tonal needs, and manner in which the player approaches the instrument.
How the drummer touches /plays the drumheads, how hard, soft dynamic the application.
Still would vote for Broadcaster series. But they boom big and bright in the live room in person.
I played classic GRETSCH in NYC studios on occasion.
They articulate in a tone control foam padded booth like a keyboard, specific quality like I never heard, so strong made, and exacting to be handled in the right player application.

Excellent demo. They are all great sounding drums. My preference is the Brooklyn by a small margin. They have a slightly warmer sound with a bit more cut at the same time (perhaps a bit of natural scoop).

    • @drumcenternh
      @drumcenternh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

We always tune the resonant head much tighter than the batter side head, so there was either a typo, or we read the TuneBot incorrectly. Apologies.

Hello, I tuned my snare - not a Gretsch but a Y. maple custom abs - the way you did. But it sounds awful. Reso one octave lower (sic) than the batter (E3 vs E4)!! Is that really right? Or is it a mistake? Or just a joke? Thanks for your response.
