Fabulous Demo Nick!!! I started drumming on an old Gretsch set with a Rogers snare. Currently I only have an eDrum set for "quiet" playing at home. Its just not the same feel and thrill of acoustics... Now I want both of these sets... Okay maybe just the micro set next to my eSet :-)

@@matushorvath3203 Yes, more than happy. I had a Yamaha Recording Series since the 80's and those are great drums. But these just have that sound and feel that give you confidence. Enjoy.

Funny how people like different things! I said the exact opposite! I just ordered one custom, and they were able to make the wood stain hoops for the bigger size. No reason they can't make the black hoops for the smaller bass drum!

I’ve been on the fence for awhile on these kits. I want one so bad and love the tone. I’m not sure what’s stopping me from pulling the trigger. Love the finish. Maybe because I had one of the Catalina special edition kits with the wood hoops and was very disappointed when I got them home. They sounded killer in the Sweetwater videos but I tried different heads on them and still couldn’t get the tone I wanted. The snare tension rods kept backing off on me and I’m not a hard hitter. Too bad our local music store won’t bring in higher end kits to try. Keep these awesome videos coming.
The problem with these videos is that the rooms and drums are perfectly mic'd and eq'd so your home kit never really sounds like what you hear in the videos, even if you had the higher end kits Nick plays. I will say the workmanship that goes into a higher end kit is nicer. But even Nick has a knack for making even a cheap drum set sound like a million bucks.
I had a Catalina for a couple days. I thought the overall sound was great, but it wasn't doing what I needed it to do...be heard. So it went back. I eventually went with a Renown and have not looked back. I think you'll be good if you go with a higher level Gretsch. Nothing against the Catalina, they just didn't seem to have the quality as the Renown. I was going to go with Brooklyn, but the Renown hit me at the right price as it was on sale. I think Sweetwater accepts returns on drums as well. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I find it amazing that companies did away with drum mufflers and mounting toms direct to shells because they wouldn't resonate. They sold the public a bill of goods and now magically it's a great think.Gee it only took how many years to realize people were having to us duct tape,moon gels,on toms and snares and filling there bass drum with everything from blankets to pillows.Go figure.!!!
That micro kit is costly at $2,300. A 16" bass drum for that much money?

Why in the hell do we have this obsession with “virgin” bass drums? Makes setup so much more cumbersome and adds literally zero to the tone of the kick drum. I’d buy a Renown kit over this kit most days for this very reason. Come on Gretsch, make things easier, especially since you fail to include the tom mounting brackets, which is absurd.
Not an obsession. Some drummers like hanging a tom from a cymbal stand. Some don't. To each his own..
