Congratulations on your promotion! In the Air Force Reserve, there is no WAPS testing or SKT test. The WAPS and SKT is geared toward the Active Duty. The specific qualifiers for obtaining rank in the AF Reserve are these: 1. Passing the 5-level skill test first to obtain the SrA stripe. 2. Once upgraded, pass the ALS PME test for SSgt. 3. Pass the 7-level skill level test, then you will become eligible for TSgt after TIS/TIG is met. 4. The NCOA PME test is for MSgt, and can be taken as a SSgt. A factor that could prevent someone from getting MSgt is not having their CCAF associate degree (it is possible in going down the pipe to affect the other ranks in the future).5. The SNCOA PME test is for SMSgt. Note: SrA BTZ is rare in the Reserve because usually the member obtains SrA after six months of completing tech school while having good TIS. The PEP program is similar to the STEP program for SNCO ranks, and the program requires a package being put together. In short, it is easier to obtain the rank of SSgt in the AF Reserve. Of course, TIS and TIG are still applicable at each rank level in accordance with the approximations in the CFETP, and the time it takes to be eligible to start the PME varies. Also, a vacancy in the unit must be present in order for one to be promoted to the ranks of TSgt and above. The interesting thing is that the vast majority of these tests come from studying CDC volumes (5-level and 7-level have CDCs). The leadership schools (i.e., ALS, NCOA, and SNCOA) have CDCs, yet I believe the Reserve allows members to elect the member to go to the school in-residence in place of the CDCs. Yet, those who choose that route has to be more exceptional. There was at one point where the Active Duty took precedence, and that the Reserve could not participate in-residence, which was understandable during economic times. Also, the Reserve has a specific checklist that they utilize to determine if one is ready to be promoted (e.g., fitness, travel card, EPRs, attendance, PME, skill level, etc.). Usually, a member does not go in front of a board of their superiors, but rather meetings happen behind closed doors without the member with those superiors discussing if that particular member is promotable or not. One CMSgt made this point quite clear to my unit, and it made promotions more transparent.

Can Cross training effect the ranking process as far as loosing time? The last year of your contract you are able to cross train - How will it effect you making the next rank - given that you have to start all over with another Job or AFSV. A lot of people change jobs in the AIRFORCE because they didn't have the openings when they initially signed up, but does changing jobs effect ranking in terms of TG?? What are all the possible negatives on cross training in terms of making rank? Will it taking a longer time I would assume because your starting a whole new job AFSV?

Tell your recruiter to look over that number. Make sure you are entering as an E3, it will say so on paperwork you will sign down in MEPS. If you sign it saying youre a E1 or E2 then youre out of luck unless you can fix it in tech school

No you can go in enlisted then get your degree then go into OTS (Officer Training School). They actually have many different programs for enlisted people trying to commission.
Yes! You can directly commission from enlisted to officer after earning your bachelors. Alternatively, you can get your degree as a civilian, and then join the Air Force directly as an officer
The A.F. made it easier now to make Sen. Airman! When I was in, you had Sen. Airman then Sgt.! Unless like you said, taking the BTZ test to make Sen. Airman quicker!
If all credits count toward the 45 (sometimes a class' credits don't count) required, you'll be e-3 the day you leave, and you'll be paid as an e-3 at basic, and get your stripes after you get back from BEAST
AF has a community college of air force, its basically online classes for your associates degree. I'd imagine you can enroll in some shitty online college courses from other schools for your BA, but you probably only have the time to take one or two classes at a time while active duty.
+Dave Banner not always true depends on your job and your manning. I work with someone who takes a full course load at UNLV. The trick is to only take a few at a time so tuition assistance will cover all the costs

I know this is old but I figured some would read and benefit so... Base housing is generally full everywhere. There are long waiting lists, and usually it can take about a year to get into a house unless you're lucky. You'll likely have to live off base while on the waiting list (or in the barracks and leaving your family at home). And once you have PCS orders (moving to a new base) you wanna always call housing to get on that list ASAP, but you'll still likely have to wait at the new base too. I believe, but don't quote me cuz I'm not 100%, that if you live off base and are on the waiting list, the AF will pay to move your stuff to on base housing when it's open to you. But they won't pay to move off base from on base housing so keep that in mind. Some on base housing is really nice, but in other places it's like poverty level and falling apart, so do your research, and you may be better off just living off base anyway. Also, if you live on base you forfeit your entire BAH allowance. If you live off base you may have some left over.

Spencer Highley So an Officer basicly, gives out orders, and leads. Those are the two main parts. Enlisted follow orders and carry out duties. NCOs implement the orders the Officers give to the Enlisted.

You can talk to one, but your not gonna really be able to move forward until you graduate...and yea you can the cap. But imo the hat looks better

If you get promoted to A1C after tech then you'll just sew on then.
This is what my son did. He signed 6yrs and received A1C right after tech.

Absolutely not. I've never seen an officer that lives in the dorms at all. (Stateside at least) most live off base or in base housing.
