One day back in the mid 80's I was walking out of a store in my hometown when I spotted a perfect, black 1983 Supra with a for sale sign. I had wanted an RX7, but when I saw the Supra straight on from the front, I thought it was the meanest looking thing I'd ever seen. Like Darth Vader's daily driver. I babied it, loved it, then traded it two years later for a new RX7 Turbo. I can honestly say I've regretted that decision every day for the last three and a half decades. Sitting on my desk right now is a picture of the car I took in 1987, sitting in golden sunset light with my then-girlfriend, now wife of 32 years leaning against it. I may have traded the car, but I never really let it go. Thanks for letting me sit behind the wheel again.
of course, i’m glad you enjoyed the video! i’m definitely going to do a few more like this before the winter sets in, it’s such an amazing car, if your ever able to get your hands on one again you definitely should
Hi Brad... I had the 82 supra performance model,5spd with those recaro like seats...I agree, its one badass looking car! beefy, masculine.... I later got rid of it becuz the seats were destroying my back.. literally, i went from having a healthy back to barely being able to stand driving the supra becuz I was in so much pain...I loved the look of the car and the look of those seats, but they were just too painful for my frame..I,m 5'7'' and was 155 back then... I eneded up with an 86 rx7 turbo.. also a badass looking car! mine was black with that hood scoop for the intercooler and it had red interior...The seats in that thing were the very best Ever and my back healed itself after about 6 months of just driving that car..seemed they had support that corrected my spine.. anyway, I Loved that rx7! as much as I like the supra, the mazda was my all time fav car..superfast, supportive seats, and insane cockpit feel...I modded the rx7 with variable boost, HKS exhaust, stronger clutch ect and it was a beast! in the end, the throttle linkage stuck wide open and almost killed me.. the car went fishtailing outta control and hit a curb and rolled over a few times crushing in the roof..I got out ok but the rx7 was totalled and sold for scrap...after that was rough as I was relagated to having to use a dodge minivan for a yr while I looked for my next car..that car ended being the probe gt 5spd.. bought in 94 and its been a daily driver even to this very day..
How sad! I totally know what you mean :( Here is a video with probably 5 or 6 classic Supras and one of them black. It's cued up to the black one for ya. th-cam.com/video/xvzcjYAyCc8/w-d-xo.html
I am sorry I Hope to buy At least one of them If not both I like and want other 80’s Japanese sport cars like the galant and 240sx and celica st162 and 165 4th gen and others I cannot remember there are a good few ☺️. 80’s cars are growing on me the more I do research and watch videos the more I realise how they were high tech for their time some of the options that we have now were already on the market then the people had already thought about them crazy and impressive nothing is new!
i pray it stays that way cause i love the looks of it and it’s sub $10k if it picks up in popularity you bet it’s going sub $40k and parts are being hoarded it’s a beautiful affordable car
I’m original owner on 1985 Supra. I’m planning restoration for it now, but absolutely the funnest car I’ve ever owned to drive. Fell in love with its style and look back in 84. In its early years, chirping the tires was a breeze. Taking corners is a joy! I had a curvy parking lot road where I loved to take with just down-up shifting, no brakes. I keep it under a carport and get no less than 3 knocks on the door yearly, asking if I’d sell it. I’ve got some work to do, but I’d rather put the cash in a full restoration than today’s high end cars I’d want to drive! You did well❤
My grandpa is giving me his 84 Supra and I’m really looking forward to restoring it. Only problem is I don’t have a lot of experience with restoring cars. What would you say is the most important thing to consider when restoring an MK2?
It depends on where you are located but I would say definitely to look for rust mine had it in some odd places, I find it is most common on the rocker panels under the door and also the side moldings. These parts rust pretty easy and are also hard to find new because many of them age and aren’t around anymore but that also does leave room to do a creative look to the car like how I’m mine I got rid of my molding, depending on the condition you might have to do a bit of body work which isn’t too hard to work with, I know there are many different videos and things that show people using it, only other thing I can think of is oil leaks, Which usually it isn’t too bad with these cars, if they are leaking oil then it might need new gaskets and seals
You ever find a window trim solution? Also my cruise control activated on its own, got stuck, and would just accelerate out of control so we had to disconnect it, so be aware that that happens to some.
Yeah we just punted over the metal, some of it is chipping off so it wasn’t the best solution but it works for now, and thanks for the heads up, that sounds scary, definitely going to be carful with that if i use it
Same with all old RWD Toyota's, just put it in 2nd then reverse and that kinda lines the cogs up. Other times just go forward 1mm or two then back into reverse, just enough to line the cogs up.
Cool!!! I totally know what you mean about that era of Supra. I was into them back in the 80s and probably the best one that I owned was a black 84/ 5sp with only 40K miles. Before that I had a red 83 that was cool. It's funny, some people think the sport edition only had cloth interior and a manual shift, but I had an early 86 ( only a few thousand or so made until the 86.5 / Gen III came out), but it had gray leather and an auto. It had the same flares, wheels, Supra decal and spoiler as the 85/86... so some people are confused. There is a car video on my channel called CarCrazy and it shows several Supras that I played around with in the 80s - 00. Check them out.
Great job restoring it. Just watched couple of your videos. Bought '82 Supra couple of weeks ago in Chicago. It's in very good condition, but not perfect. Looking forward to watch more of your posts.
hello i’ve recently came across a 83 auto mk2 celica supra. i want to know whether it is a good idea as of this time period to get this car as my first vehicle. the owner recently had fresh new engine built in and keeps it well maintained. im afraid to invest in this car knowing i’m not really a car person like that. but i really feel tempted to get the car. please help with any feedback i should know. great video btw!
As for investing in buying one, their prices are only going up as they get harder to find in good condition, so they are definitely increasing in value! The engines are pretty solid and they are overall great cars
Try giving it a little gas in neutral then put it in reversé you have to do that with the clutch out. It moves the gears. Or try putting it in reversé. That will sycronize it. Reverse is in sycronized. Allthe old toyota 5 speeds were like that. My truck and my 87 supra both are hard to get in reverse
I had an 84 for my first car. A mechanic told the guy I bought it from that it wasn't worth fixing. I bought it for $400! I thought it handled great. I treated it like a go cart! I am strongly considering getting another one soon.
Usually I do first to reverse but one of my buddies at work told me to try going into second and then reverse and it works like butter! The gears must be more synchronized going from 2nd to reverse
I bet you'll definitely be able to find one someday in the near future! Facebook marketplace is always a good place to look, Sometimes there are some really great deals on Supra's on marketplace, Hope your able to find a good one someday soon, best wishes on finding yours!
Hi Ethan i have the video game Forza MotorSport 4 on XBox 360 and i made and customized ur car in the game, Same Color and Year. Its even faster than a BMW M3 e32 and M6.

She looks so good! the mk2 and mk3 Supra are criminally underrated!
Thank you so much!! I definitely agree with that, they may not be the fastest things but they are so fun and such good looking cars for sure!

What state are you at,
I would like to bring my 84 to some meets and get back into the community.

OH, and what are the best places to find parts for it? thanks! The car looks awesome BTW!
What year is this car? And can you say what size and brand tires you got on it?
Love that Supra. I'm more of a Cressida guy but I'd buy one like yours right now if I had more space.

is the car supra fun to drive ?
Can’t wait for me and my dad to get my mk2 Supra ready to start doing stuff to itm
I have a mk4 but dam i want one of these too
Wait this things got powered windows? Then again I shouldn’t be surprised the Honda prelude came standard with a powered sunroof
Yeah its got like everything in it, I still can believe all the stuff it has, like this car is really 37 years old?
Have you tried first than reverse
Usually I do first to reverse but one of my buddies at work told me to try going into second and then reverse and it works like butter! The gears must be more synchronized going from 2nd to reverse
Thinking about one of these for my first car.
I want a Supra so bad
