That fact that Wheeler has been drumming for Icehouse since 1986 is nothing short of remarkable...and he looks just great despite the years. A great percussionist without any doubt!
I've said it once. I'll say it for the 90,000th time~ Icehouse and Japan were two of the most unsung and innovative bands of the 80s. The fact neither are better known and recognized for their genius and influence, is fucking criminal. No other way to say it.
@@davepirtle9790 Wow. Can't believe this comment survived 10 years and I did too! I casually listened to Alphaville mainly because my gf at the time was into them. But by '88 at the start of my senior year in HS, I was trending out of post-New Wave and "Forever Young", kinda sealed it for me. Not a bad song of course. I just had run my course with that style of music at that moment. I should go back and check out more of their earlier work which I'm sure similar to Icehouse, Japan(and tons of other New Romantic/NV bands), is worth a listen.
First cassette tape I ever bought was Man of Colours in late 1987... played it though my PYE walkman well over 1000 times. First live gig I saw was Icehouse at The Empire on Hindly St (Adelaide) in around 1993. Still so awsome to this day.....
👏 cat 🙀 QUEEN 👑 Truely FABULOUS and who'd have picked Youse lot, as a bunch of Goddies. What a LOVELY surprise. 💋 bunch 💐 🌹 I cried through most of it, a cleansing cry. ✈
Saw Icehouse in The Dunedin Town Hall (NZ) on August 15th 1984. I was 21 and life couldn't get any better. I can distinctly remember Iva 'floating' onto the stage to open their gig. I wondered to myself if he was stoned, then I had another thought, or was it me. I saw Cold Chisel and The Angels at the same venue a few years later. Awesome gigs. Awesome memories. Life changed for me big time in 1990 at the age of 26 when I had my near-death motorcycle accident and became a left leg amputee at hip
AAAAAAAAAA!!!!! I've been a musician for over 40 years, and I've had this album (US/UK version) for 39 years and thanks to this video, Mr Wheeler has FINALLY helped me find the beat at the beginning of 'Icehouse'!!! THANK YOU!!!
SETLIST: Icehouse Plays Flowers 01 Icehouse 02 We Can Get Together 03 Funtime (Iggy Pop cover) 04 Love in Motion 05 Boulevarde 06 Skin 07 Get It On (T. Rex cover) 08 Sister 09 Walls 10 Fatman 11 Can't Help Myself 12 Great Southern Land
Icehouse was the last gig I saw live in NZ before moving on to Aus, a couple weeks later saw them live again at the Coogee Bay Hotel, Sydney....blew me away.
I saw Flowers at the Bondi Lifesaver 1979. I was underage, there was Kevin Borich and Jimmy and the Boys. but I recall Flowers were the best act. I remember 'Funtime' lol.
Credit to Keith Welsh, not only was he in Icehouse years ago, hes now their management and then comes back and rocks HOMEBACK with them, very talented 👍🎸
I am about the same age ,I remember this music as though it was yesterday.Classic music does not age really it will always sound good.Besides by the time we are ready for the aged care homes .Imagine the kickass bands we will be able to put together
Thank you so much for shearing this Great Souther land Music. Just a Classic!!!!! Ice house for Ever Amigos, from Santiago / Chile. Leave There for 5 Beautiful years. Muchas Gracias amigos. Good on ya!!!
Who is this drummer? He’s transformed the music! It has a drive it’s never had! Seen 3 times now and it’s been best with Mr X the drummer. The start to icehouse is just fantastic
The 1st album, my fave of all and then they do Iggy/David's Funtime, what a show. Though Primitive Man is also an excellent record too. So many great songs on those first 2 albums and they are a superb live band. First saw them around 1980 in Auckland NZ.
Dead set Champions, saw them at the Mansfield Tavern years ago & at the Alex Hills a little while back, would do it all over again when your ready Iva...
Thanks for this brilliant video. Still listening to your albums Iva in 2019 and still playing my Flowers Icehouse cassette tape tho' I have a CD backup!! Come back to Adelaide soon. Happy Birthday for next Wednesday mate xx
Hey... Many thx's for the upload, shit this brings back the memories... grew up in Sth Auckland, hanging out & driving around in my Ford "Cortina" with of course the Flowers/Icehouse cassettes basting away. Been living in Europe the past 20 odd years....omg where did the time go;-)
Hi Tim. Great footage! I'm editing together an interview I did recently with Steve Bull, and was wondering if I could use 30 seconds or so of this footage (with credit of course). It will appear in a vlog I do (called 'Circle of Light' that you can find in a playlist on my TH-cam Channel. All the best, Amanda

a great beat.
And he’s still smashing it out in 2022. Simply amazing energy!
He hasn't changed since I met him in 1988. Super nice guy!
It sounds exactly like 1980. I'm not fucking kidding. What an incredible time warp this is.
Paul Wheeler kicks ass.
World class.
I was watching and was gonna post exactly that 👍😂
He's fantastic
Yeah why won't be play drums for me??? 🙃
That he does!
very clean groove.
I've said it once. I'll say it for the 90,000th time~

Totally agree. Iva and David played second fiddle to all the pretty boys of the 80s. Should have been MASSIVE. At least we have good taste 🙂
@Stuart Maxwell -- can't be all that awful; it just sold me on buying the original album. So I guess hearing that album's gonna be AMAZING :)
greetings from the us, i would add Alphaville to your list of underrated bands of the 80s .
so Icehouse, Japan and Alphaville !

As good as the band is I have never seen a drummer work so hard and hold the rest all together so well! Totally awesome work Mr Wheeler.
Yep. IMHO he is one of the best drummers in the country. His energy is impressive and he is very physical. Brilliant to watch.
Mark Anderson The drummer is up there with Rob Hirst I reckon.
***** hmm this guy can out play the def leppard drummer with one arm behind his back

Lovely gig, great playing. Only sad that they didn't play Sons.

I just LOVE THEM!!! I wish They would come to USA!! Tells My age:):)!!
Australia is the ONLY place in the World I would Want to see!!
Great stuff. Shame they never gave Not My Kind or Paradise Lost an airing.
Yeah! Very odd that they'd leave off the best song - Not My Kind. Can't be that hard to play live. Wonder why they didn't play it.
They also never played Sons (of Decay)
I always thought The Flowers was a much better name. I saw 'Icehouse' in London in the 1980's.
when you get over the they have aged an accept that we have to it,sfun
