I have not heard this song in such a long time, many years in fact. I was in a supermarket last week & it was playing in the background, so I decided to listen to it again. Such a beautiful song.. it has more meaning as I have gotten older.. Thank you for sharing it with us. Iva is a master musician..
Iva Davis is a classically trained musician and he was at college playing the Oboe. This song I believe is his masterpiece for sure. His father was in the video portraying the Man of Colours, an artist.
One of the prettiest songs ever recorded in my opinion. Thank goodness for the younger generations of wonderful vocalist and musicians who continue on.....the 80's were a great decade!
I wish I would live in Australia....I could go and watch this amazing band every time they play live........ At least I can dream....😍😍😍😍😍😍 Love from Germany 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This song is my favourite even after all these years. It always reminds me of my now deceased father, who trained as an artist but due to life, never practiced his craft professionally.
My daughter & I were only able to see Iva & Icehouse once in the USA. If I had known it would be the only time - we would have gone to more shows. I have been to over 400 concerts & my memories as I have gotten older aren't perfect. But I can still remember this song & Iva's performance. The oboe made these song haunting. I will always prefer Iva's version of Man of Color. His voice is perfect. Regarding seeing Icehouse in the USA. I do not think it will ever happen. BButI can dream. We often discuss how much we want to see Iva & Icehouse again live in Australia. Cost, distance, etc. probably never going to happen. 😪
Very much doubt there's another band anywhere to have an Oboe solo in a rock ballad. Imagine how these masterpieces are going to be regarded in a century or more....
Definitely 1 of My All-Time ICONIC ‘Aussie’ Bands Still Rockin’ - ON after 40 SOLID Years!! 👉🏿 IVA & the Guys 👉🏿👉🏿 Absolutely Legendary, Luv from OZZIEROCKERCRAIGY! 😆🚀🤘🤟🎤🎸🎹🎷🥁🎧 👍😉👍🇦🇺
Oh wow wow wow!I saw this live.Such talent and l got goosebumps.Such humility shown by Iva to allow this talented young man to play this precious song!
I love this song, Iva Davies always did it incredible justice.. he has that deeply warm, passionate voice.. a calm and thoughtful song.. then Michael Paynter puts another spin on it, and it’s amazing to me how good it works.. who knew you could put a similar voice to John Farnham performing this song? Giving the song a new vibrancy and raising the passion to angelic heights.. Just be-autiful - Micaela’s mum
It is a similar voice to Johns but less raspy. John in his youth had a brilliant vocal range but had that whisky/smoker sounding style to his voice that some singers have. I know he's from Essex originally in England, but just wondered if he has any Scottish ancestry. I know Jimmy Barnes was born in Glasgow, ACDC from Scotland too.
Thanks Iva for writing all these wonderful songs..Been under my skin since that Flowers cassette I used to play over and over in Nimbin back in 1982 or something..
Such a deeply felt song! Whenever I hear it, it gives me goosebumps... Mr Davies, you have created a masterpiece and I think Michael Paynter sings it it beautifully! My dream is to ever watch you perform in Greece. There is an audience that really loves you here! My greetings to wonderful Australia!
I had the privilage of seeing the band live at the Palais in Melbourne last night. Such a great show that revived a lot of memories for this old bloke. Thanks for a great night.
Saw them at ''The Metro'' in Bourke St in 1988. I think it was recorded live because i heard it on the radio and I am the one that whistled in the background. OH THE MEMORIES 😎🤘🙏
ist der Hammer oder? bin gerade darauf gestoßen. ICE House war *He little Girl * in den 80 "New Romantic" Popper Zeit..wusste nicht, dass sie Live so klasse sind!
I Absolutely love this song, always have, always will, Iva sings it the best, it's his song, Michael has a great voice singing this also but I feel that Micheal's voice is a little too high pitched for me. This will always be a classic.
Beautiful song and great sound. I just wish Iva had sung it completely. I don’t like Michael’s notes and distortion of the melody and his ooohhh ooohhh just remind me of young singers that use it when they cannot cover all the notes. Love Icehouse since the 80’s when I got to know them from a friend from Australia who brought a cassette with the flowers on the front to my country Peru.
I have to disagree with most of the comments. I think his voice doesn’t fit the song. It’s for me too theatrical. Iva sings it with a degree of solemness and this blokes voice is too thin and he completely over sings the song.
Really disappointing. Not sure why Iva wanted a stunt voice, and no dig at the person playing. There is a version of this song on youtube circa 1988 from the Melbourne Showgrounds where, while the sound and vision quality of the clip is pretty poor, there is a guest oboe player - along with Iva - (I get that this may not always be practical) and it is a fabulous version of the song. This one is not.
ONE WORD : WOW WOW WOW WOW and again WOW

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever made and Michael Paynter takes it to another level (which says so much!)
ich bekomme Gänsehaut. Hammer

Well said Michael. It is a special song and you treat it as it should be treated
I wish I would live in Australia....I could go and watch this amazing band every time they play live........

Love from Germany 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
They tour weekly doing live gigs. Hardest working band in the history of music and supremely talented. Come visit the land down under sometime
This song is my favourite even after all these years. It always reminds me of my now deceased father, who trained as an artist but due to life, never practiced his craft professionally.
Iva is such a great song writer, Icehouse is still such a great band. Fabulous version!
I so wish icehouse would tour in America. Texas especially. Much love.

Glad and proud to have given this gem lots of airplay in Santiago, Chile, back in the early 90's, on Futuro Fm.
Wonderful, Man of Colours - a song about an artist and sung by Michael Paynter - says it all really.
That’s a religious experience. Thank you. So beautiful and deep.
Geez. This is Ridiculously Beautiful.
I love Michael's voice so, so much, I think his voice moves me just as much if not even more than the late, great George Michael.
Love this! Amazing job Michael

Street Cafe, another ICEHOUSE song, also features an oboe solo.

Love you guys. Absolutely brilliant. No words seem adequate
Such a magical voice......then the oboe....just sublime, so beautiful, then Iva...if this was the last song you ever heard, you would be happy..
Different tune but still beautiful. I get very emotional whenever I hear this song. It’s the best song in my opinion of Iva Davis at all time ❤
Oh ,Beautiful song !
Perfection

Wow!
Super. Man of colours album#1.
Sensational in every way..exquisite talent.
6:45 - 7:00 that's definitely a first!
I like the Iva on the oboe. A classically trained oboe player.

Sounds like jack Jones, what a masterpiece
Ganz großes Kino
Beuatiful
Parece uma versão dimensional, ou até uma outra música, mágica o tanto quanto a original.
I realize I'm quite off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Rocky Matthias Flixportal :)
@Marcelo Terrance Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it!!
@Rocky Matthias Glad I could help :D
Oh wow!
He's like a John Farnham and Chris Daughtry hybrid.
I Absolutely love this song, always have, always will, Iva sings it the best, it's his song, Michael has a great voice singing this also but I feel that Micheal's voice is a little too high pitched for me. This will always be a classic.
❤
Wow
Yeah naah. I will go with Iva's version any day.
Michael does an amazing job... but it is disappointing that Iva doesn’t sing it. Such a beautiful song. I’d rather hear Iva sing it.
Bluray or dvd coming ? ;)
Is Michael touring with Icehouse still or was that only for the 40 year tour?
I saw them perform this way with Michael live in Adelaide last night..... Still got goosebumps!
@@CassandraMadge lucky you!!
The album version is exceedingly better.
Holy damn. He can sing! Mr Davies is one helluva songwriter as well. Maybe better than the original?
Beautiful song and great sound. I just wish Iva had sung it completely. I don’t like Michael’s notes and distortion of the melody and his ooohhh ooohhh just remind me of young singers that use it when they cannot cover all the notes. SOLO IVA DAVIS PUEDE CANTAR ESTA CANCION, COMO THE KINDOM.
I have to disagree with most of the comments. I think his voice doesn’t fit the song. It’s for me too theatrical. Iva sings it with a degree of solemness and this blokes voice is too thin and he completely over sings the song.
The singing was a bit OTT for my taste, I'd rather hear Iva sing it. But, good rendition nonetheless.
Really disappointing. Not sure why Iva wanted a stunt voice, and no dig at the person playing. Don't like Michael's part of this beautiful song at all!
Funny
I play this whenever I have a problem reaching my soul. just that
