5223 BN - Before Now
???
@@HeartfireAce21 basically "5223 years ago"
Yep, that's what I got
I think it's "Before Nations"
@@jonasfermefors ...when would "Nations" be lol
The ‘long car’ estate, what we call a station wagon.
Yes this^^^
was just gonna post same thing👍
Or an estate car (UK English).
😂😂 exactly
38:51 Thats the guy who runs the TH-cam channel 'Geography Now'. Very silly cameo.
“Guest host” credit in the description.
Well, Jay Foreman did co-host Geography Now!'s United Kingdom episode.
Just before their ad break at 10.09 you'll notice the little black n white striped rectangle appear on the top corner of the screen. This is a nod to UK television, back in the day this would appear just before a commercial break, presumably to give warning of when to put the kettle on and stop recording on VHS. Lovely detail.
It was a signal in the centrally broadcast ITV programme to regional stations that an ad break was coming, because regional stations each ran their own ad break, and in the olden days it had to be run manually.
@@jaakkomantyjarvi7515 Interesting. It really helped with VHS recording too
Oh, so that's what that is. I've noticed the same on Plainly Difficult - another great British channel.
I missed that! And I have watched this multiple times on Jay Foreman’s channel and watched multiple reactions to.
14:35 The Scotland thing HAS gone out of date by this week - Rishi Sunak is no longer Prime Minister as the Conservatives lost the election.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa😂aaaaaaaaaaaay!!
Honestly pretty good odds for it going out of date even if there hadn't been an election.
Also the SNP lost heavily, so Scottish independence is unlikely to be a thing for some time.
The drink you didn't know was a Ribena carton (blackcurrant juice, our alternative to your grape juice) 😊
So, I watched this when it came out and I literally thought "I won't bother pausing all the jokes because I can watch JJLA do that for me" :-) and now I have. Thx. Also "unrecognized" "UN recognized" gag :-) and an Estate car is British speak for a Station Wagon, see definition of "a state".
"Arbor Marci" means "Marcus's Tree" in Classical Latin, as per that great nation's mandatory language.
Though the name is sadly misspelled in the title.
I so hope the map men sneak a reference to you in one of their future videos
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I can't wait to see his face when he realizes it's about him. 😂 It's gotta happen.
The Cumbernauld gag is funny if you’re from Scotland as here it has always been known as one of the worst Scottish towns.
Long car - what you would call a 'station wagon' in the US, we call an estate car.
One of the first books I had as a small child was The Enormous Crocodile where it disguised itself as many things to eat things. I got that reference, look at me. Ronald Dahl wrote it.
I absolutely love that you pause the video to enjoy the jokes! Too many reactors just watch and miss too many things, and don't check. It's vexing. I'm subscribed to you because you check out things!
38:30 The guy who said 'of' is the presenter of the Geography Now TH-cam channel - I don't remember his name.
Paul Barbato, aka “Barb(s)” or (in the early days of that channel) “Barby”
Did you just turn a 12 minute video into a 41 minute video?! Noice.
I love your map men reactions in particular, I always watch their original video first and then watch your reaction! I hope one day they add a little Easter egg or cameo of you. I feel like you appreciate their videos on a spiritual level 😂
Something that nobody else apparently explained: The abbreviation "VAT" in the "Crunchie" definition is an abbreviation for "value-added tax". It's not dissimilar (though certainly not the same, either) to a sales tax, and most European countries have one.
Within 24 hours of the map men video going live Graham Hughes and his mum had recreated that skit.
7:37 The SMOM is the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, recognised as sovereign (albeit with no territory) by the Vatican. They're also known as the Knights Hospitallers. Ever heard of St John's Ambulance? That's them.
They also issue passports, which you can actually use to travel around the world (unlike, say, a Sealand passport). They only issue a very small number of them though.
Love your attention to detail and I bet Map Men love you for it too. All that effort put in was worth while.
Tins of peaches are recommended foodstuff to be stored in nuclear bunkers because of their long shelve life. Long car is what is known in the UK as an estate car, and in the US as a station wagon. The "random" guy who shows up to say "of" is actually Hugo from "Geography Now", a little channel with 3.3 million subs. Jay was on their page about the UK.
he was confused because they (tins) are called 'cans' in the US
Do they last longer if you don't keep them on a shelf or not as long?
@@chrisshelley3027They last longest if on a shelf.
In a nuclear bunker. 🤫
@@Varksterable For specificity; they last longest if kept in their tins, upon a stable shelf, within a nuclear bunker, without swing changes in temperature.
😃
I thought his name was Paul.
They were correct, the video went out of date as we had an election yesterday. Rishi Sunak is no longer prime minister.
Just want to point out the news article at 10:40 which you missed because it's one of my favorite jokes from this video
I'm sure many people have already said but at about 39:00 the "of" is said by Paul Barbato of the channel "Geography Now", he has done a video about all (UN recognised) nations in the world in alphabetical order and Jay was the guest on his UK episode.
Northern Cyprus is a weird and complicated story. And the buffer zone is kind of a weird place too.
The crocodile definition relates to The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl
26:00. That's Ribena. It's a fruity juice drink, most popular in blackcurrant flavour I believe.
14.04 - you missed their little Northern Ireland text (we're used to being overlooked in this neck of the woods). About us not having an official flag.
@garethm3242 I thought NI's flag was the red/orange hand on the cross point of a red 'x' against a white background. I know there's not a flag emoji for N Ireland. Am I right or is that flag controversial? I'm thinking maybe the latter as, if I'm not very mistaken, it looks like the red hand of Ulster put in the middle of an English St George's cross...
@@titanium_di2402 Yeah there's no official flag. That one was based on the flag of the ancient Irish province of Ulster (which was the "red hand" with the ancient De Burgh cross, from Norman times - same root as the Irish surname Burke). It's often misappropriated here by loyalists though. The Map Men have it about right in this case. (Edit: Loyalists here use ancient Irish symbols and language every day [most of the place names here are directly Gaelic] without realising it, which is kind of funny.)
A state is a play on Estate Cars or as they are known in USA station wagons.
25:51
It's ribena.
It's a sweetened blackcurrant juice, and basically what British people drink instead of grape juice. Grape juice/flavour is apparently very popular in the USA, but over here, pretty much all of the purple juices and sweets/candies are blackcurrant flavour, and grape flavour is all but unheard of.
I have been to The Vatican City, Transnistria, Palestine. North Cyprus. Kosovo & Uzusis in Vilnius, Lithuania. Recognised or not, they are all there and full of people getting on with life and all very lovely, in their own way..
Mate. Love how you smile at the begininng of every mapmen vid.
Mildly distracted throughout this video by the realisation that Mark Cooper Jones sounds just like Simon Jones who played Arthur Dent in the original BBC Radio and TV show - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I live in Cumbernauld 😂 I can confirm it is indeed the most beautiful town in Scotland 🤔
And, isn't Outlander filmed there? 😍
What about the carbuncle?
Cornwall are fucking seething that they are not even acknowledged in this video on acknowledgment of little known nations 😅😅
Cornwall is in the same boat that Catalonia is in with Spain! 😂😊😂
I have mentioned Cornwall in my comment. BTW, we Scots love the Cornish. We see you and we respect you.
Watched it a few days ago but need to watch it again with Mr JJLA.
Hey JJ, Welcome to my comment...
I watched this video when it came out last week and found it funny. But I found it a Lot funnier watching it with you. Cheers!
You didn't pick up on the rishi sunak comment going out of date, the election was yesterday. ❤
25:56 that is Ribena
to add: while warm ribena is something close to a folk remedy for general illness, I've never heard of it being used as a hangover cure
the "long car" refers to an "estate" (or "station wagon" as the rest of the world calls it) and sounds a bit like "a state"
I'm pretty sure you can also host a computer server on Sealand. The British TH-camr Auditing Britain who regularly interacts with police often says he's from Asguard when the demand to know where he's from. Anyway,, going back to Sealand.. There was also Radio Caroline which broadcasted from an offshore boat. Think that was shut down in the 1970s
And a Conservative MP - The Rt Hon Sir Roger Gale - who now happens to be the oldest MP, used to be a DJ there.
Also, Sealand was recognised by the German nation in the past.
34:35 Have you watched "The Mouse that Roared"? A 1959 Peter Sellers comedy film, probably the inspiration for Conch Rebublic.
In the film the micronation of Grand Fenwick declares war on the USA, hoping to get foreign aid after losing.
Sadly their medieval army accidental wins the war by capturing an experimental nuclear bomb.
Graham Hughes, never seen without that hat. He now covers UK politics on youtube. (Politics Social)
I think that last drink was Ribena, a blackcurrant soft drink.
I'm an Asguardian. While it seems silly they sponsor lots of scientific projects for living in L.E.O.
I'm also Welsh British, a citizen of Sealand, and a citizen of 'Lovely', a nation centered on a flat in Bow, London, where tv personality and author Danny Wallace. It has the best flag and anthem (on youtube). The man saying "of" is the host of Geography Now (a channel I KNOW you'll adore).
Graham Hughes is now a TH-camr who discusses UK politics with a Labour Party slant. ( I subscribe to it).
I think I figured it out 3200bc+2023ad=5223 ( before now)
I think this was made last year as Jay re dubbed it @ 1.53.. ish.
@ 9.17 or your 25.56 there's a carton of RIBENA (A blackcurrant fruit drink).
Apparently :-"Hangovers are associated with dehydration, low blood sugar and associated salt imbalance and this can be redressed by taking in blackcurrant juice
Maybe the fact that there was no year zero is the reason for the off-by-one error here?
(2 BC, 1 BC, 1AD, 2AD, etc.)
If it was made last year, the premonition about Rishi Sunak would be just astonishing...
Tins of anything are what Americans call cans. They also use the word can to describe a special room in the house.
16:23 yup, it's called a jagerbomb
Station wagons in the UK are called "estates". A STATE (sounds like estate) = Long Car. Get it?
England is a country. Scotland is a country. Cornwall and Wales? Difficult to say, as both were conquered and subsumed/absorbed into the Kingdom of England a long time ago. Northern Ireland? Depends on who you ask. It's either a territory administered by the British state or it's an chunk of Ireland temporarily occupied by a foreign state - Great Britain; it's all very complicated, no matter how you look at it.
In the UK we call a US ''station waggon' an 'estate car"... 😂
26:03 Thats RIBENA!!!!
It is so weird, the story of why blackcurrants were banned in the USA.
*edit* thats why your purple _drank_ is _grape_ flavour.
THE Pirate Radio statiin: Radio Caroline.
BN = Before Now!
“Abor Marci” is Latinish for “Marks’ Tree”.
Excuse me, Coventry is also famous for The Specials (best two-tone band)
the norway anni frid answer is the 4th member of the band abba she was born in norway.
and she isn’t German.
25:57 thats ribena, no its not milk, its a drink made from black currents (a berry which is pretty much unheard of in america), whenever we have purple types of sweets its usually black current flavoured (as opposed to america where you use grape)
*blackcurrant*
@@AlBarzUK yup
The little purple carton is Ribena, a blackcurrant drink
The drink box by the globe is Ribena a blackcurrant British drink
It's Barbs from the Geography Now channel, and: it's Ribena, a black currant juice-ish thing
I used to live in Sutton UK... how did I never know about Austenasia? I would have applied to be a citizen!
That of was Paul from Geography Now
The bigger issue would be... where is all the alcohol that should be on the table

JJ, there is an opera called 'Nixon in China'. Why?
Ohhhhhh so THAT explains Spock's
"Only Nixon goes / went (?) to China" ?! 🖖♥️😊
About Scotland, could be that at one time they had all the oil but did not benefit.
Thank Maggie Thatcher for that. It's little wonder that that Scots are pretty much done with the British state.
Pretty much everyone knows it’s not worth getting off at Leicester Square rather than Covent Garden
Quite a few of those dictionary definitions are true (“being sent to Coventry” is a genuine term, and conkers is sort of true
[22:12] "Do not eat!"
- *sad USMC noises 😢
glad you looked at the C page in the dictionary after completely ignoring the M page in another video.
the long car is an estate
I've visited 1/5th+ so far.
The guy saying "of" was the TH-camr "geography now" ❤
And there's The Sovereign Military Order of Malta, only recognised by The Vatican, and Sealand, which was accidentally recognised by Germany.
Libya, disappointingly, is no longer entirely green. In fact, it changed in 2011. Maybe the question was "what _was_ the only single colour country flag...?"
I love map men
I love that the ‘in no particular order’ is alphabetical except the US which has to be first 😂
Jager + Redbull = "Jagerbomb"
Just to annoy him he missed a few jokes...I point that out just to drive him nuts 😂😂
including, in the final credits, under the names beginning with’P’… “Please enter your name”
It’s worth nothing that Scotland’s had a vote to leave Great Britain and they voted to stay
If you think Scotland had a referendum on leaving *Great Britain* then you definitely haven't watched enough Map Men videos.
I want to make a version of Homestuck where everything is the same except Con Air is accurate to what's defined in that fake dictionary.
I was actually a citizen of Asgardia... until they started charging money.
dude it's just BN.. Before Now
A long care is an estate
England, unlike Scotland and Cymru, does not have a parliament. It is not a country by UN definition.
Who cares what the clowns in the UN think, England, is a Country, and is the largest Country in the UK. the UN is a dinosaur that serves no purpose, just political clowns like the EU parliament, and the WEF, and the warmongering NATO, they're all as useful as a blind man in a firing squad.
And there's The Sovereign
Saharwi and Western Sahara are the same country, just different governments.
FIFA rekuns 211 an I think that's just about right give or take 5 of them depending on wars that have just happened or about to happen
If you have a football team and are willing to play Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Uruguay, Spain, France, England, Netherlands, Portugal, even Scotland then ya most probably a country ... The Vatican city not really a country just like the city of London isn't one but we play games don't we Washington in the district of columbia, .... Ay ay ....😂😂😂😂😂
BN, Before Now!
Its BN, not VN...lol
how is it even possible to turn a 12 min video into 40 mins. insanity.
lol funny
I usually really like all of this guys videos but this stop/start every 15 seconds became unbearable!!! Especially as the first thing he said was that he wasn't going to do this !!! I managed to endure 16 minutes of it before I felt like drowning myself in a bucket full of "Heinz worms" 😞🥺😶
As soon as I see the dumb BCE and CE,I switch off the video.
What's with this dude's fake voice?
