Ok but "poke holes in your story so it can breathe" is *genuinely* good writing advice!!
Leaving tiny bits of your story unanswered can be really exciting for a reader, and give way to lots of different theories that could help your story move along!

That line out of context is good advice. What you're describing is mystery and intrigue, which is great! You want that in your story, and sometimes you want to tell a story where not everything is necessarily wrapped up in a neat little bow at the end. What the post itself was talking about was plot holes.
By definition, a plot hole is an inconsistency in the narrative or character development in a story. It's a spot where the story's overall logic doesn't work. These can be illogical/unlikely/impossible events, or statements that contradict prior events in the storyline. Most plot holes are mistakes, and generally speaking should be fixed in the editing process.

The answer is to write a crappy story first and don’t think about whether it’s good or not, just spout words into a document, don’t even check your spelling. Once you have an entire story of garbage quality to work with, you can go full-on critic and edit the crap out of it. If you must rewrite a large chunk, use the same process. This way, your perfectionism only comes in when it can’t stop the story from existing in some form. At least then you can work on it whenever you feel like it without forgetting anything.

That's sometimes a good solution and a good way of showing diversity, tho~
Or, if you don't want to exclude it completely, there are options, I'm sure.
For example, I'm writing (several) stories, and one of them is about this boy who is in love with this other boy (who is aroace). Obviously, the later can't return their feelings in the romantic way, and the first one (we'll call him A) knows this.
But he doesn't care because love doesn't have to be romance. Because the type of love that B has for him is already enough. Should be enough, shouldn't be considered less just because they aren't romantic, because B really loves him, and that is just more than he could ever ask for, and everything he needs. Is more than enough.
So yeah, they are really comfortable around each other and help each other raising their children (that they had before they met).
      A big happy family, guys.
There's this other story but this is already long enough. So sorry.

And then I realize the author is me and I haaaaate ittttt! Why can't I just spawn fanfiction fully formed from my brain and read it without actually having to write it first?

@@renoirrr A little while ago I was writing a thing and I could _only_ come up with dialogue. Which is less than ideal because the work that I'm trying to imitate has very little dialogue and stunningly beautiful descriptions and emotional body language.
I suspect the reason I suck at descriptions is because I'm autistic as hell and my understanding of body language and tone is... not great. I take everything literally. And I dissociate a lot. So double-whammy on the "your personal experience does not lend itself well to this writing style."
Look up Mejhiren's _Hunger Games_ fanfiction, _When The Moon Fell In Love With The Sun_ . It is, by far, one of the most beautiful things I've ever read, and it's almost completely feel-good fluff.

I wrote like 8 versions of this reply before realizing this comment was made 6months ago lmfao. But anyway..
Could you imagine the Author/narrator of a book being the ANTAGONIST instead of the protagonist in a book? I just imagined a plot of a author with writers block and a deadline trying to write a killer novel but can't think of an interesting plot. Author starts recklessly manipulating characters in the book just to see if a good story would come out of it. Because of the chaotic interference with the world, it starts throwing the whole universe out of balance. Protagonist is somehow aware of the narrator and so they know their influence is what's causing all of the chaos in the universe. The protagonist has to stop the end of the universe by making sure the book never gets finished.
Narrator is initially unaware of their influence but then eventually becomes cruelly attached to the power they have and go full supervillain.
like could you imagine a casually cruel narrator taunting their precious protagonist "oh that little plothole? its just there for ventilation." and its an opening through space and time that threatens to end the protagonist's entire universe and everything that ever existed within it

But now it's the second installment and you're halfway through, technically finished and are just flushing it out while transferring it from your Doc's to your actual story to see if it actually goes together well, and there is still no romance. Just sweet fluffy moments that both character involved view as platonic but are essentially dating without knowing. And the third person is just trying to hook up with the two idiots, assuming they're already dating. And you're writing the third installment as well since you have a lot of inspiration for once and don't want to lose it, but you don't know how to officially get them dating without one asking if they're already dating and they come to the conclusion that they are.

My life revolves around a little friend group of OCs I made for a fandom I’m in. I’m one of the only people who knows these characters exist, and yet I love all of them, and the ships I made between some of them.
Also, you’re not alone in making yourself cry over your own characters’ backstories :’)

SO TRUE. I’m writing a fanfiction that only has my OCs, and my life pretty much revolves around them and the OC ships within them at this point. I’ve gotten SO attached to them all.
And I’m the only one who knows the characters exist aside from my (very few) readers

How about daydreaming for 2 years and still not starting to write yet ? No, I'll be honest, for the first time in 10 years I wrote a complete story.
It's just that it's hard to find your style. I read a lot of fanfics and literature. I'm a literary Prep school student specialized in Art. Writing a solid plot is complex but after years of studying Art and Literature I started to work around concepts. I have a specific theme in mind. For example, our representation of good and evil. Instead of opposing a good character and an evil character, I decided to twist it and wrote the following ideas:
"I want to explore the relationship between two morally wrong characters. I want to show how an evil character can fall prey to another evil character. Although I will describe how dangerous they can be, I will write how normal or fun they can be. The reader will naturally starts to like them, try to find justifications for their bad actions. The story will progressively turn into a psychological horror/thriller fiction. That is when the reader will understand that reality is sinking in, no they are not sympathetic, yes it will end up in a tragedy because that's logically how it would turn out. I want to write a story where the 'victim' and the 'agressor' can switch their roles, where the reader would understand that there is no good guy in this story when the 'victim' shows their brutality in the end, making the reader questions if there is such a thing as good and evil."
I know that those who will read my story will feel uneasy or probably wonder "what the fuck". They might want to quit reading. Or complain that the nice story they enjoyed was butchered in the end. But, that's actually the point. This is the kind of reactions I'm looking for. And to produce this effect I'm threading carefully my story.
I mean, have you ever read Emile Zola's Nana, Flaubert's Madame Bovary or Nabokov's Lolita ? The main character is unpleasant.
Humbert Humbert throws some good jokes, he is knowledgeable, he has a critical point of view of his own society. But dude is a pedophile. And you're standing there, reading the book and being confused because he looks likeable enough however he is a pedophile and you don't know if you should hate him with all your heart or still enjoys his wit. The first-person narrator forces you to get into his skin, through the good moments and the most horrible ones. And I think it's genius. The story is an ugly thing but at the end of the day it will make you think.
Still, I will admit that I'm quite sad to be unable to write a heartwarming story. It seems all my characters are wretched in some way. I try to write something really nice but I'm never happy with the result. It only works if I damage them a little.

But it's also devastating to me. Then I thought to myself, "You know you control whether they live or die, right?" And I was just like "Yeah, but the plot needs them to die..."
