I bought an LP of this accompanied by his 2nd Symphony when I was at university in the early 1970s. The songs were sung in English, and I recalled the lyrics “Daughter of high-born Zeus” “Where freedom has triumphed” “Swing your censers,” etc. and even though I have not had a working turntable in decades, my beloved records have been with me through many, many moves. But I just went to the bookcase where they now are kept and could not find this particular one. I am heartbroken, but hoping somehow it got mixed in with my hubby’s big collection of classical LP’s. (We met late in life but are two peas in a pod when it comes to music. 😉) He does at least have a turntable but it needs to get repaired. There have just been too many health/family/property/ issues over the past several years to let us have time for this, but thank goodness for the treasure-trove of TH-cam. If I ever do find the LP I will share the information, since it now seems odd that the lyrics would be sung in English instead of German. It was rather an old LP even back then, as I recall.
Roberta, the LP you have would be with Sir Thomas Beecham conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (I had that on LP as well.)

This music's a real find! Sad that I've neglected to listen to it all these years.
I've been a classical music fan for over 35 years. I started listening as a teen in the 1980s. Beethoven's my favorite but up until now I've only heard the "Turkish March" section of this piece. Why hasn't this been recorded more than a handful of times? Beethoven is the master from Bonn, always gives me hope that there is some beauty in this cruel world.
Wonderful, if I do say so myself.... I love the Dervish Chorus and how the strings allude to the dizziness of the dancers. Brilliant.

I used to have a version of this many years ago (on the Turnabout label, I think, though I could be wrong). I hadn't realised how difficult it is to find now in its complete form. More importantly, I'd forgotten just how magnificent the music is. Beautiful stuff and the performance here is excellent. Many thanks for the upload......

Some really good stuff happening here. I suddenly feeling like I've been missing out on the Beethoven energy because it is just so up front direct, maybe obvious....but awesome and invigorating. Life affirming
It´s a shame that Beethoven´s music for the stage is ignored in most cases. Egmont or this piece can easily be compared with Symphony #4 or #8.

funny how a century later many great composers lived beyond beethovens time line yet not one was better than him. THAT'S how great he was!

Unfortunately the volume-output seems to be altered by TH-cam on this composition (at various channels). What a shame. Would so have loved to hear it again. Saving it for (hopefully) better days. Thank you!
