The Creatures of Prometheus (German: Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus), Op. 43, is a ballet composed in 1801 by Ludwig van Beethoven following the libretto of Salvatore Viganò. The ballet premiered on 28 March 1801 at the Burgtheater in Vienna and was given 28 performances.
The overture to the ballet is part of the concert repertoire. Beethoven based the fourth movement of his Eroica symphony and his Eroica Variations (piano) on the main theme of the last movement of the ballet.

Music from the baroque era in general isn't something impressive. The smallness of the orchestra doesn't help.

This is such an under appreciated piece of music. That is so good in my opinion. It just seems like people don’t know about it and it’s so enjoyable.

Beethoven is who got me interested in classical music. I thought I knew most of his works. At the age of 78 it was a joy to "discover" something new by him. Quality writing from his middle period, not a student exercise.
Beethoven liked the theme of the finale so much, he used it 3 times
Four times. He used it also in his seventh contredanse for orchestra, WoO4 No 7.

It's not true of course, but it's a nice thought. People who listen to classical often like to think they're smarter.

+zay I don't know why, its one of my favorites pieces of beethoven.
In short, the story of Prometheus ends with the breaking of a cycle, Beethoven's 3rd symphony is famous for pioneering classical music, and being one of the first leaps towards romanticism from classical styles.
To put it short, Romanticism focus less on rigid structure and form, as classical symphonies did, and put more emphasis on expression; where it was more about conveying an idea and achieving an artistic goal. This is why he reused this melody, as a call back to breaking the cycle.

the app probably translated redundantly "des", which only indicates the genetive of the name Prometheus, with "the"....

No, Beethoven composed this set of music for a ballet, so it's actually dance music, besides the introducing overture.
It was one of Beethoven's first greater purely orchestral work, which he had composed in Vienna for the Viennese audience, and it was even lauded by Beethoven's old master Haydn, when the two composers had run into another one day in the streets of Vienna.

The word "creatures" refers to us humans.
By Prometheus' revolutionary deed of bringing us the fire and thereby all arts and sciences we became in a way his "creatures".
