I don't know how anyone disliked this wholesome video. I don't even have a mint plant and I love this. Edit 5/26/2020: I now own 2 mint plants, thank you.
I am so glad you said the part about how it’s nice to prune mint because of the aroma that the mint plant emits. When I’m pruning a mint plant, or some other fragrant plant, I often think to myself, “I’ll bet that gardeners or people who have a “green thumb” have the least stress levels in their lives, because it takes patience to to prune any plant. While you’re pruning, you can think relaxing thoughts and you’re sort of concentrating on what you’re doing. It probably really brings your stress levels down. It’s sort of relaxing, so you have that aspect while you’re breathing in a lovely scent. You’re probably not even experiencing any stress.
In the wild, the long spindly stems of the mint plant find their way to the ground where they get covered with debris. When that happens, the stems grow new roots into the ground from there. Those new roots allow that stem to continue growing. In potted mint, that doesn't happen. So when the stems get long, the main root system can no longer provide enough nutrients to the new growth, and it becomes stunted
@@zap_collection6511I know I’m saying this after a year. But can we put the stems into the soil like it’s a root, so the new shoots with tiny leaves can become the “new mint” plant. And the previous stem now as its root?
I am absolutely glad I found your video and I appreciate your concise instructions, and the timeliness in not going over-board w/the time. Anyway, you're a lovely soul and again Thank YOU.
Thank you for your very informative and insttuctional mint care & propagation video. I planted my first mint garden last year 2023 and I like how it spreads despite it having a reputation for being garden invasive. I have 'sweet mint'.. The fragrance after watering or rainfall is very pleasant. I'm trying 'pineapple mint' this year, but it doesn't have much of a pineapple-ly fragrance; maybe it's too young(?) I hope to dry the sweet mint and make herbal mint tea but without actual tea leaves; mint only. I so beneficial for digestive purposes. Thank you again and I like very much the songbird singing in the background of your video. So charming enhancing nature.
I just put spearmint cuttings in water YESTERDAY, and today the all have roots. That’s crazy how fast they set roots. Now I understand why they spread so fast
Thank you! I was worried about killing my mint by harvesting too much, but this helped show me how much was good to cut 🙏 My only other question is what to do with the yellow and bad-looking leave. should we just cut them off? Or leave them?
It’s easy, just cut it way down of the plants, ( cut on top of the leave, it will sprout later, ) after you cut it off you can replant the beginning of it again. I cut about three inches and stick it down to the ground that I prep for, it growing crazy. Plant food and water needed.
Good video. All my mint has flowered and it’s really tall. I’m going to take seeds from it to plant new mint next year but also I’ll prune the current mint.
Those massive root systems are a great way to start your mint for other places no need for seed. Being in an Apt I've begun to start extra mint plants in leftover containers with holes poked in the bottom. I always have extra pots on hand for my neighbors to take and grow.

Hello, I love the video. I have a question. Once you prune the long stems, take off the bottom leaves, and put the plant into water to let it root, do you plant the rooted plant in the same pot with the rest of the mint plants? The same pot you took it out of? Or do you plant it in it's own pot? I'm a new plant mom and do not want to kill my plant.
