    I was at U-Tapao 42 years ago, quite an experience!

      I was at U-Tapao 47 years ago, USAF, Det30, 10Wea Sq...and you're right it was quite an experience. I spent quite a bit of off duty time, learning about the food, the people and even had taught myself to speak and write the language[some].

    I flew out and into Utapao in 2013. I am just a bit too young to have served in the Vietnam war, but I am ex Air Force so I appreciate the history and of course love Thailand and have visited it many times. it was cool to walk out on the tarmac and board the plane

    I came to Sattahip on a merchant marine ship carrying 40th Signal equipment from Vietnam in 1968.

    Surprised that there was no mention of the munitions port facility at Camp Vayama. It was located just north of Sattahip and used a DeLong pier. I was stationed there in 1968 as part of the 233 TC TS.
    The DeLong pier at Vayama is shown at 12:12 but Camp Vayama itself is not mentioned.

    My late Father was stationed there in or around that time. Was in the 519th Transportation battalion 260th Company (I think that's right), still don't know much about what he hauled as he never talked about his time there.

    I have been there since 1984 (yes... Join the Navy) Sattahip looked a lot different from 1970 in this footage but a seaport and Utapao NAS looks pretty much the same.

    I,served with the 260 med trk petroleum. Hauling bombs to U-tapeo Airbase. Was agent orange sprayed any where near the ammo dump?

    • @jsmith8598
      @jsmith8598 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all around the East Side where the dump was. In fact, it was sprayed all around the perimeter (small base = whole base spraying). North side by the entry, West side by the barracks, South side by the beach/theater/cafe. Can't escape it......1972-1973

    most people over look the fact of how much training and education was done to that and other countries by the USA. That helped those countries infrastructure for decades to come

      I might not agree on certain US policy on Vietnam war but it could not be denied that along with the military installation it helped contributing highly valuable skill training that helped reshaping Thailand economy
