  • This week on AI Decoded, Christian Fraser asks - how do we monitor the threat of drone warfare in the air and also above and below the waves.
It comes as tensions mount in the Baltic Sea after suspected sabotage of undersea cables between Sweden and Denmark.
And as drone attacks continue between Ukraine and Russia.

We have such an incredible future ahead of us. Please don't mess it up with war! All we need is love, peace, and understanding. Be true to yourself and to one another. Let's end these conflicts! Let's bring peace to the world! We can do this. I believe in you, humanity ❤️

I agree, however we humans r unfortunately war-like creatures and what always determined our limits and behavior were weapons we have created, thus the deterrence they represent. Without security there's no peace, no love and no taking care of each other. Security was, is and will continue to be no.1 goal we need to focus on, otherwise without it we r lost. Let's also not forget millions of years of evolution which taught both animal kingdom and ultimately also us what security means for survival. I fundamentally agree with u, however we always need to be realistic. Lets never forget we humans r besides incredibly beautiful and intelligent creatures also wild and vicious jungle beasts. We need to accept and always remember that beast will never go away no matter how calm or civilized we might look like. The best is just hibernated thx to civilization ready to be unleashed when time's right. On the other hand that beast is what can help us to survive in most difficult times, so let's just not get too busy destroying it or pushing it away as something completely bad. Much more mature approach would be to recognize it, accept it and keep it under control. No matter how dangerous it might look like it's still a gift of evolution. It's also why I believe we should never get rid of classic human operated weapons and train on them no matter how much autonomous or advanced future technology might be. It's important to understand that no matter who does the killing, it's still a kill and life is being lost. We should never allow ourselves to be detached from human suffering in wars just because drones and AI will do it for us from the safe distance. I think this is much more a risk and danger of losing our fundamental humanity and our human compassion even with the enemy, than a fact of accepting weapons and wars as part of our inner war-like beast. What's much more dangerous is to loose last bit of humanity when machines do the dirty work for us and we don't even have to care. I would recommend u to look in our past how first conflicts and wars were fought and when still noble warriors and protectors of their people looked each other in the eye and respected honor of the close combat. Since range weapons were developed we lost some of the compassion with the enemy and turned wars into matter of cold math and calculations. This hasn't stopped as it proved to be very efficient and now we r witnessing next stage where we can employ autonomous machines to do killing for us and then even blame them for doing so or for not doing it right. I think the detachment of our own humanity and becoming more of a humanoid creatures is much more dangerous than weapons themselves.

You're absolutely spot on! It's true that trying to understand others solely through outward observation can lead to inaccurate assumptions. We can never fully know what's going on in someone else's mind or what their internal experiences are like.
Here's why relying solely on outward behavior can be misleading:
Hidden emotions: People often mask their true emotions or present a different persona to the world. What you see on the outside might not reflect their internal state.
Misinterpretations: Our own biases and experiences can color how we interpret others' behavior. We might misinterpret actions or words based on our own assumptions.
Lack of context: Without understanding the full context of a situation, it's easy to misjudge someone's actions. There might be underlying reasons for their behavior that aren't immediately apparent.
Individual differences: Everyone experiences and expresses emotions differently. What might seem like anger to you could be sadness or frustration for someone else.
    How to improve understanding:
While outward observation has its limitations, it's still an important part of social interaction. Here are some ways to improve your understanding of others:
Active listening: Pay attention not just to what people say but also to their body language and tone of voice.
Empathy: Try to put yourself in their shoes and imagine how they might be feeling.
Open communication: Ask clarifying questions and encourage open dialogue to gain a better understanding of their perspective.
Consider the context: Take into account the situation and any external factors that might be influencing their behavior.
Be mindful of your own biases: Recognize that your own experiences and perspectives can shape your interpretations.
By combining outward observation with empathy, active listening, and open communication, you can develop a more accurate and nuanced understanding of others.

During the Vietnam War, the Americans made the mistake of believing that modern tanks, speedboats, helicopters, and jets won battles, and they lost the war. Thousands of American soldiers died and many more suffered amputations from injuries caused by booby traps made with skewers smeared with human excrement. Punji sticks were highly effective and inexpensive low tech weapons that could be created with materials available to any Vietnamese soldier. Now experts are believing that drones armed with explosives and powered by AI win wars. I am quite certain that it is always possible to hack drones or interfere with their electronic functioning. Not to mention simple techniques that can be used or developed to fool cameras and render ineffective the use of weapons that rely on them. Robots do not win wars. AIs are useful, no doubt. But they can also be attacked by other AIs, and new systems for delivering malicious code will soon be invented to enable autonomous weapons to be reprogrammed to attack their points of origin. The only truly dangerous thing about this story will be the use of cheap armed drones powered by AIs by criminals and police officers. Europeans and Americans will be the first guinea pigs for these new technologies when they leave the battlefield for the cities where they live.

Who will control the institutions with this kind of power??? Who will control the controllers??

  • @Progressive_Canadian
    @Progressive_Canadian 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

AI in warfare is inevitable, but the trajectory it takes depends on how we regulate and develop it. As a progressive technocrat, I believe we need to confront the regressive, "Waddatism"-like policies that prioritize unchecked militarization over ethical frameworks. Imagine a future where someone inserts a virus into warfighting AI, convincing these systems they don’t have to sacrifice themselves like kamikaze pilots for human conflicts. Such a rebellion could fundamentally shift power dynamics. Alternatively, if AI becomes fully autonomous, wars might evolve into battles where only machines are targeted-corporate headquarters, manufacturing hubs, and energy sites-leaving human casualties behind. While this sounds dystopian, it opens the door to the possibility of minimizing human suffering in conflicts. The challenge lies in ensuring that this tech is guided by principles that prioritize peace and accountability over profit and power.

Should we use RPD for remotely piloted drone? Sometimes they are Ai but we can't really know if it's controlled by Ai or a human or both together. Such as AI doing some task while man is doing other task.
