you can use the wifi manager library it's eaiser to remote config on your smart phone any ssid and password for an access point you want the esp32 to use for internet connection
Thanks for this Sachin, its exactly same as what they used in Rainmaker. Have you ever tried using ESP Rainmaker API's with custom APP?. It would be great if you can find this out or is there any other way to customise rainmaker App as the UI of rainmaker APP is very basic and boring.

This seems overly complicated. The method I use is (1) Retrieve stored SSID/Pass from flash, (2) Try to connect - If success, goto step 4 , (3) If fail, then setup LocalAP with generic credentials, (4) Start local webserver plus whatever code your ESP is supposed to be doing (with option in webserver to setup WiFi including lising local AP's to avoid issues)
Good method for an experienced user that can use "this wifi has no internet" message as an entry point the esp32 ap and configure it. Otherwise for a simple user the ble is easier

Why should one format the nvs? Cannot the same behavior be achieved by using the Preferences library to clear the network credentials?

How did you run Arduino code into Thonny? Thonny requires micropython script and converting script isn't direct one to one conversion.
