  • In this collection of videos we clear out most of the game's bosses and story. In a few short hours a casual speed runner has made it through Dread mode. I thought this would take like a week. There are some sweaty rage moments though don't worry, this wasn't exactly easy. Loads of fun though. -- Watch live at / themuznick

That question you asked is a very interesting one. Considering this game is 3D and would most likely use a cell system (meaning each “room” is its own world space to explore), then it would most likely be easier to make an alternate version of said room than coding the hard swapping complete textures or models in the original room. As an amateur developer myself that’s my take on it. Just wanted to chime in on that because it got me thinking.

I appreciate the input, I was also talking about it recently on stream during the escape sequence after a rando. I thought they might have loaded a different map for the escape sequence but something I saw made me second guess that. There's a tube that in the vanilla game needs to be broken in order to progress. This time the randomizer didn't require that, so during the escape sequence I came across that section unbroken, which strongly hints that they use the same map for the escape sequence.

4:10 while looking at the map...sections light up. They blink om and off...do you know why?

That's to indicate that there is an item of some sort in that general area, those are usually missile pick ups, e tanks or other types of ammo and health expansions. In a randomizer every item location is fair game lol

Thanks so much for the reply. I didn't think of that. So different than Return of Samus on 3DS. Thank you!

@@retroman-- no problem, yeah Mercury Steam took a whole new approach to marking items on the map that wasn't in other Metroid games with the flashing area on the map.
