@@kjandtonylovefrance Bonjour, another great farmer’s market, as Americans call them, is on Blvd Raspail and is much larger than Maubert. Maubert, from my understanding is the oldest outside market, several hundred years old as the 5th is the oldest arrondisement of Paris. I live in he 6th and while it is a chain boulangerie La Parisian on Vaugerard is excellent as well as Paul’s on Saint Michel. Others of the same name not so good in my opinion. For the most part though so many are really good and I have to fine a bad one. Not to sound like a snob, when people come to Paris on vacation it’s all wonderful. I happen to be living here over 6 years now and the first thing I do when I return from a trip abroad is walk over to Isabel as I’m gone for an extended period of time. Sadly they have no outside seating which is why I like Paul’s on Saint Michel. People watching is tres interresant.
Used to love the croissants at a breakfast spot in Vegas...this reminds me I need to hit Paris before I mosey on. Love the street stalls...salivated looking at the fruit!
Les croissants d'Isabelle sont vraiment délicieux. A côté, ceux de Kayser, sont bons aussi, un autre style, mais également dans l'excellence de moins en moins présente par ailleurs.
Mine too, in fact i forwarded the vlog through to my daughter saying the bakery was mouthwatering because well that’s exactly what i was experiencing…😅
My husband and I were taken to La Maison d'Isabelle when we were in Paris 2 months ago, on a "Paris by Mouth" food tour. All I can say is, mon dieu! I had the best croissant of my entire life. And this was the "simple" unadorned croissant. Not a pain au chocolat. Not an almond croissant. Just delicious buttery flakiness, that makes you realize that most bakeries here in the U.S. are selling pale imitations. We were told by our tour director that Isabelle is a very young woman (early 30s or so?). Also, that it's extremely unusual for a woman to win an award in the ultra-competitive man's world of Parisian boulangeries. BTW, I highly recommend going on one of the "Paris by Mouth" food tours. They're pretty incredible.
Bonjour, this market Marche Maubert as well as the boulangerie Maison d’Isabelle, are my market and bakery of choice as I live not far from here. The location is actually in the 5th arrondisement and I walk 1 km each way almost daily passing by other bakeries. There is a reason they won 1st place croissants in 2018.
4th time that week, Tony to get croissants? I want that Paris Brent dessert! Oh, that Flan looked good too! The lunch buffet was so inviting. Oh, the streets of Paris just invite you right in! ty! Debby in Kansas, true Soul Sisters! I want fresh squeezed orange juice! I'm behind on my video watching of KJ and Tony, sorry!
Very enjoyable video. I know you are doing a good job of learning French. May I offer a correction? The accent aigu, only used with the letter e, is written in this way: é. It indicates that you must pronounce the é as ay. The word for market is marché. So, the market you mentioned is pronounced marche-ay, not marche. Marche is the word for walk in the present tense first & third-person singular, & note that it does not have the accent aigu. Examples of walk in the 1st & 3rd-person singular are: Je marche Il/elle/on marche. Bon courage!
There are a lot of great French tutorials on TH-cam made by native speakers. Search under ‘French A1.’ A1 is the level for French language novices. You’ll learn a few handy phrases. Pronunciation can be tricky; it’s a question of becoming familiar with the sounds. Bon voyage!
Nice video. Yes Maison d'Isabelle is a very good bakery. When you're in a cheese shop you can ask 100gr of this, 200gr of that one, etc... And yes, ask the price before chosing to buy bigger pieces. Good bread and good cheeses can make a dinner, no problem with that.
over my last few trips i've tried all the best croissant 1st place winners from 2018-2023. To me, Maison d'Isabelle is hands down the best. Second best is Carton (winner 2022). Maison d'Isabelle also has the benefit of being two doors down from the best fromager - Laurent Dubois. :)
We'll have to try Carton next time we're there. We just saw a place featured on the Today Show called Philippe Cantoni (something like that) where you can buy a giant croissant. Have you ever tried that? We'll have to try the fromager you recommended as well. Merci beaucoup!
@@kjandtonylovefrance I know the giant one you mean but have not tried as it seems created for TikTok and doubt i can finish it 😂 I'm there in Sep and would like to try Union Boulangerie whose "Apple Bomb" creation won a best innovative pastry prize. Hello and thank you for the wonderful video. If and when the time comes for you to move to France in the event that you do not end up in Paris what is your city of choice? Just curious as an American myself who will move to France when circumstances permit. Of course I love Paris and have been there numerous times but I’m trying to decide if Paris is out of reach when the time comes what do you folks feel is the next best city?
@@kjandtonylovefrance Thank you for your reply. I’m originally from Massachusetts but I’ve been in Florida since 2016. So I’m torn between beautiful weather in the Côte d’Azur and all of the culture that Paris has to offer. I appreciate all you do for your followers. 🇫🇷
@@LisaNazarian My 2 cents for all it’s worth is unless one has a good command of French stick to the larger cities as being able to communicate will be frustrating if you can’t speak the language. It’s a complicated, to me, language especially compared to English. Put in the effort to learn as you won’t be sorry. Bordeaux is a wonderful choice and down further south there is Toulouse. Everything else is much cheaper than Paris, but they all have their charm. I love living here.
Hey KJ and Tony ! How are you ? 🙂 How long will you stay in Paris this time ? I must confess I've not been in the center of the city since the beginning of the Olympics. How is it ? Crowded ? Empty with just policemen everywhere ? 🙂 By the way, good choice with the Marché Maubert and Isabelle's 😉
@@kjandtonylovefrance Oh, ok 🙂 Well, that's fine if you arrive in ten days, because I am not sure you would recognize the city you like with the Olympics. It is ok, but many, many policemen everywhere… It is ok but it is… well, it is "different" 🙂 Will you stay in Paris, or go somewhere else in the country ?
The line at the bakery is usual. It's not very crowded since most of the Parisians left the city, tourists who wants to come to see Paris try to avoid this period, and those who came are mainly around the olympic sites, which can be all around Paris or even in other parts of the country. Also the hotels and RBnb went greedy and decided for such high prices for the olympic period that many people decided to cancel because it was too much. And now they are crying they have plenty of rooms available... I live in the XVth arrondissement, with no olympic thing, and it's really calm and empty.
