X3WD - Making a Poker Table

- This was my first time attempting to make a poker table. While the concept is very straightforward, one major obstacle I had to overcome was upholstery. Since I don't do upholstery as often, I definitely was a bit nervous starting this project. Overall the woodworking part of this build was easy enough with a circle cutting jig along with some half-lap joinery for the table base.
All of the foam, vinyl, and speed cloth were purchased from www.buildyourownpokertables.com.

I love the inlaid lighting. Looks just like a WPT table.
I really like this table great job! My only suggestion would be to add a thin plexiglass diffuser infront of the LEDs to give it a cleaner glow. But great work!

Dude well done! I'm thinking about using magnets to attach/detach my top to the base for easier detachment
only thing i'd recommend is that when you do the rail upholstery, lay it down like you had it but don't cut out the middle. staple it to the outside edge first THEN cut out the middle and staple the inside edge. it's easier to see where wrinkles are before it's all stapled to the wood and you can make adjustments easier as well. also cut longer thinner strips along the inside curve of the rail. it helps with wrinkles. otherwise it's a great looking table.

What is the Oklahoma planer? I searched TH-cam and couldn't find anything relevant
@@samueldeter9735 the Oklahoma planer is when you are needing to cut a section out for joinery, but you have no tools so you take a circular saw and with it running, move it side to side to hog out all the chunks.
It would have worked at the 9:00 minute mark.
@@claythomas9467 I got ya...I didn't know it was called that...is there a good way to do it when the dado is too wide for the circ saw plate? (ie if he was cutting out an 8 inch section)

I have a wooden octagon poker table but no table to cushion chips on the wood top. I want to make a 36" diameter top covered in foam and speed cloth. Non skid on bottom. Could you do a video on how to make it???

Wow. Is your LED connected to a battery or can one use AC ?
This one that I installed uses batteries. I went with a cleaner look and bypassed using an outlet for the leds.
Awesome video!. I’m curious though do you like the LED lights on when playing or they just for show?
If the room is a bit dark, they add a good ambience. The client loved it and likes it with the lights on. Depending on the kit you purchase, there's different variations of light patterns or just solid colors.

Great job, I cant see how did you attach the 3" top rail to the table? Did you use brackets or ??
Ackshon Thing 1” wood screws screwed from the underside. I stapled the fabric to the 3” top rail, then I put the 2” rail over that and screwed it down sandwiching the fabric and hiding the staples. Hopefully that makes sense.
did you get overspray on your camera lens?
None at all. I usually have my camera at a distance and zoom in for tighter shots.
I'm wondering if I can have a few more details on the upholstery on the riser and 3 inch arm wrest I'm building my own and wondering those steps a little more concise. Do you have the foam a little bigger so it can wrap around?
Did you attach the legs to the table, or is it just sitting on there so it can be moved easily? If attached, how? (Are they screwed through the base into the legs, pocket holed,....?)
I used L brackets that attached to the bottom of the table and skirt of the table base. 4 total.

Please get back to me on how you were able to overlap the rail & riser after you had cut them from the same board. I’m having issues not understanding how that’s possible
The rail and riser are not cut from the same board. The 3” wide rail is from one plywood sheet. The middle of that is used for the center playing surface and border. The 2” wide riser is cut from a different sheet of plywood, and the center remaining piece is what I used as the bottom of the table top. So two sheets of plywood are used for the whole table top build. Hopefully that clears it up.
So plywood A, you cut the 3” rail, the racetrack, & the playing field
And for plywood B, you cut the 2” riser, and then were left with the base?
@@sethesham6223 sorry. I’m still half asleep. No coffee yet. From the 3/4” plywood, I cut the bottom rail & used the center for the playing surface & racetrack. That’s it for that. Now, from 1 sheet of the 1/2” plywood (A) I cut the 2” riser and the middle I used as the bottom support for the whole table top. The other 1/2” sheet of plywood (B) I cut the 3” top rail and the middle is just scrap leftover. Once assembled from the bottom up you have 1/2” plywood bottom (A) left from the 2” wide riser, next the 3/4” racetrack, then the 2” wide riser from the 1/2” plywood (A) followed by the 3” wide top rail; plywood (B). Your led lights will go on the inside underneath the 3” top rail along the 2” wide riser.

How did you mount your trim router to the wood jig you made??
I used the plastic piece the router comes with and used the screw holes to align it to a piece of wood. From there I just recessed the screws so they sit just below the surface of the wood.

Curious what air compressor you use in this build. Can you provide the details?
I was using a 21 Gallon 2.5 HP 125 PSI Cast Iron Central Pneumatic Air compressor from Harbor Freight which I believe has been discontinued. Fortress and Mcgraw brands took it's place now. I think the CFM is something like 4 or 5.

Hey, so what’s the final length and width of this table (once it’s all together and finished and you needed to measure it to fit in a van or something)? Please :)
It's the size of the plywood sheet. 4' wide by 8' long. Its two prices, the entire leg assembly and the table top.. I used my truck bed to transport it to its final destination. The legs were then screwed together with the table top once it was in the room it was going to live in. Thanks.
What are the dimensions of the table? I'm especially interested in the length, width, and radius of the semicircle at the ends?
It's a full 4'x8' sheet of plywood. The semicircles are just measure in 2" and 3" from the edge.
Are the leds battery operated? I didn’t see any wire ran?
yes. they are battery operated.
what kind of cloth material you use? I know that tables have usually very smooth, but a tiny bit soft table to easily slide, pick up, flip the cards and at the same time not too soft so that cards easily move without bending (possibly rubber layer below the cloth?)
high density foam, probably 1/4 inch

Are the legs 4x4 and do you find that they get in the way as far as leg room at all?
Yes. I used 4x4 legs. I found that there was plenty of leg room and didn't hinder anyone's ability to sit at the table.

One slip and it was going through your wrist
It does look like that right? Thats another reason I was lifting my wrist upwards. I was mindful and careful when using it. It's difficult to explain but it's a controlled pushing movement when chiseling out the small pieces.

Javier Ramirez I prefer torx wood screws. I used 1” #8 I think.
How thick is your plywood? 3/8 inch or more?

Hey Eric. The led lights were purchased through Amazon. They had the option to plug in the battery pack or use a 120 outlet. Thanks.
How do you space the cup holders out evenly?
That depends on how many you do and the layout. I may make another video explaining how I came up with this spacing since this is a question that comes up alot. Thank you.

take diameter of the track, and divide by however many people it will seat. Thats how far apart you will space the cup holders.
You skipped a few steps.
It's missing one thing. One thing that was make or break. Diffusers for the LEDs. It's not trash but it looks china cheapo quality, which is a shame because we can see the effort that was put in.
What were the measurements you used

Never showed how he put the lights in or even what kind of lights they were or when to install them. Come on man!
They were just some made in China led color changing lights from Amazon. They have tons of brands and prices. Just choose whichever one will fit your specific needs.
