Learn to build a Poker Table | Woodcraft 101

- You can build a poker table! The woodworking and upholstery take a little time but this is a project anyone can accomplish. A few power tools and a staple gun, although I highly recommend a pneumatic staple gun for this build!
Materials Used:
Playing field and Armrest: 3/4 Baltic Birch
Speed cloth: Yuahne Two-Tone Suited speed cloth (grey)
Playing field foam: BryBelly1/4 Closed cell
Armrest vinyl: 4 way stretch black
Armrest foam: 1" High density

Not reading the manual and guessing is a problem we woodworkers seem to have. Did that with my Kreg Foreman. Noticing my clear frustration, my wife finally convinced me to read the manual.
Sometimes it's more fun to guess! Usually frustration sets in quickly.

Looks great. For those circle cuts a big router with the inside handle tied to a string and a screw works really good, fast too. Just keep it tight.
I had to make a couple dozen oval tables for habitat for humanity houses some years back, or maybe they were countertops, idk. Lol
What bit was in the router?
@@joshuaspears2003 I believe it was a straight bit. Normally they would be used to make a groove or dado, just this time you're cutting all the way through.

I had local sources for foam and vinyl but you should be able to locate online easy.
Great job on the table!! Did you attach the foam to the wood or simply cut it to size and seal it in within the vinyl w/ staples? I am refurbing one I bought of craiglist. I want to add foam on top the thin layer of foam that is already there (glued down) . Do you think I should glue /adhesive the foam to each other or it should be fine to simply cut it and the 2 foam will grip each other and stay put during stapling? Any tips for cutting the up corners of vinyl? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated!! Thanks again!
I didn't glue the foam to the wood but did glue the foam to foam to build up the thickness. For the corners, take your time. Make short cuts, you can always add more cuts or make them longer if needed. Use a lot of staples and buy an electric / pneumatic stapler!!!
Great looking table! Though a question for you regarding the cup holder supports... how thick are they? Customarily the padding used on the rail is 1" thick. So did you use a 1" thick scrap piece of plywood or did you cut them from the 3/4" cutoffs from the table and rail plywood panels?
Thank you. I used 1" foam and the supports were 3/4. I wanted a "pillow" effect but didn't want them to push too far down.

I purchased the speed cloth from amazon. It came folded but wasn't too bad to work with. I think there is a link in the description.

Thank you. All the materials used are in the description. The playing field underlayment is a 1/4 closed cell foam from BryBell.
Where did you get the plans or was it all pre-planned yourself?
I didn't use any plans. Just went with some basic measurements. I did some research on what others were using for cloth and foam thickness. Let me know if you have any questions.
Where did you find the foam for the rail? I’ve been having a real hard time finding one the right size and thickness
There is a company that is local to our shop called, The Foam Factory.

I'm having issues using the Speed Cloth, which came folded. I can't get the puckers out of it so it won't lay flat. Did you glue down your fabric?
I did not glue the cloth. Mine was folded too when received. I just pulled it and used a lot of staples!! A lot! I did some research before building and some people talked about using an iron or a steamer. I did not try those methods. Good Luck!!
What kind of padding did you use for the railing ?
I used 1" closed cell for the railing. I put some details in the video notes too.

Hi! I enjoy using Festool or any well made tool for that matter. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the felt I used. It's been holding up fine. I know there's been a handful of beer/whiskey and cigar spills. :)
Eric, I have a question for you. I didn't see any indication that your poker table can fold up in order to store it when not in use. If that's the case, where will you put it so it doesn't take up needed work space in your woodshop??
Great question. The table doesn't fold but the legs do!

Not bad for your first table build. My first wasn't so nice. But then again I was allot younger(dumber) and had no wood working experience.

Great question! Around 25hrs
Lucky bastard…. Upholstering bottom down without seeing what’s below (knits, wobbly parts etc.) was very unexpected to see…. And that leather cutting in the center get me a big headache because you make a deep cut and afterwards you stretch both endings apart…. Never have been afraid that the cutting line would rip both sides apart completely? I would have made a „round cut“ at the end of this cut just to make sure, that the leather won’t rip apart while upholstering

I used 1/4 for the playing-field and 1" for the rail. You should be able to get both on Amazon.
