When you’ve told him that it’s your house in other videos, it seems to stop the questions & move things along, Danielle. You really do an amazing job of handling each situation. Wishing you safe, happy & healthy days ahead! 🫶
That's how you have to talk or it would escalate. Firm tone of voice, calm authority, with clear directions. You have it down pat, Danielle. God bless you and Salinger family!
Especially when you're dealing with someone who had a lot of power in their younger life and other people obeyed them. So now they still think they have that role. So she does have to be firm but kind at the same time I thought she was fine
The scary part is with all his tinkering HE could be the cause of a fire ...i give you all the credit in the world for something so hard you make it look so easy....blessings ❤❤❤❤❤
Danielle, your gentle, firm and assuring morning voice works magic. Ed seems to hear your lower “just woke up” pitch quite well when the house is so quiet.
Danielle, you deserve an award for your love and patience. I was a teacher for 22 years and never had the grace and patience that you have with Ed. You’re really awesome. God bless you and Dan. 😊
It is so terribly sad to experience a parent who is ill. Kudos to you for helping take care of your father-in-law. God places people in our lives for a reason, not just for a season. It is not for the fair of heart. Prayers for strength! ❤
One dark morning I found my dad trying to get out of the house via a closet. He was wearing his bathrobe and had a pair of hospital socks hanging out of the pocket. The early hour wanderings wear on you after a while as sleep deprivation becomes the norm. The main difference is my dad’s medical journey started with a fall that fractured his pelvis so he needed a walker to safely get around. He refused to use it unless I forced him to so he took a few more spills wandering around in the dark while I slept. I finally had to set up iPads with motion sensing apps with sirens to alert me if he entered the hallway. There’s nothing quite like finding him heading down the back steps to go outside because he needed to pee, with no walker.
Bless your Beautiful Heart Danielle…that House and the Occupants could Not make it or survive without you! You are incredible and such a strong Lady, Thank you for all you do for your family!!! Have a Good Day/Wknd.!
It's a little scary that he does wander and mess with stuff. I am worried how this might go. Love to Dan and Danielle for taking care of him with such love.❤
It is kind of scary when you have someone with memory loss messing around with the stove and stuff because they could accidentally turn it on instead of off😢
Bless you Danielle I see you get up every night. I don’t know how you function day after day with broken sleep x you are amazing xx love to you and all the ladies in the lives xx (GSR, the lovely Lesley and all the other super hero’s out there xx my girls xx)
I know its very difficult Danielle. We become the parent and they become children. So sad but you are doing great with him. You have the strength and wisdom to take care of Ed. Have a great Saturday! ❤
Well, on the one hand, it’s great that Ed is always concerned about whatever is going on around the house, even if there’s not any problems, but on the other hand, he just doesn’t understand why certain things are the way they are, which of course makes it tougher for you, but you handled it like a champ the way you always do, Danielle… I know I am a broken record, but I will say it again, you truly are the glue that holds the Salinger family together 👩🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
At 5:45 am, I would barely be able to get myself up. Making a video would be impossible. You are amazing! I am glad Grandpa is ok. He is so blessed to have you.
Good Morning Danielle 🌞🌞 I see Ed is still trying to turn off all the appliances he doesn't quite understand. In his day, the majority of electronics didn't have LED's or display screens, so when they turned off everything, the rooms were pitch black. Remember how dark it was in your parent's house at night when you were a kid? Seeing a light or a glow, he thinks its something that is turned on. Maybe if you put a small piece of tape over the LED, or drape a kitchen towel over the oven handle, if it blocks the light, then it would not attract him. Just a thought... My wife's mother is living with us and she is the same. She wants to turn off everything at night so the house is pitch black, but then she will scream in the middle of the night, when she can't find the wall switch to turn on the lights so she can see. There you have it....
The light police at it again. She knows exactly what she needs to do to reassure him everything is ok and gently guide him and keep him moving back to his bedroom.
I feel like Y’all might need to add a door to the hall that connects the 2 bedrooms & his bathroom. Then, he couldn’t meander every early morning. But, he’d prob wander into your room instead of out into the other areas.
Good morning to you Danielle and Ed hope he is feeling better from his surgery hope you have a great day today love ❤️ yall we are supposed to get rain 🌧 here today in Texarkana Arkansas
I think it's a generation thing. My grandfather was born in 1934. He was concerned about the waste of electricity and also leaving lights on during the night (he worried about fires)
Danielle girl , I know the struggles of lack of sleep from Taking care of my own dad . Now that he is gone I find myself awaking all hours of the night and can't sleep. It's like a viscious cycle. I got me.some cbd gummies so let's see how that works lol Take care of yourself sweetie it will wear ya down. Much Love and hugs to yall
My mom gets up in the middle of the night, and it is hard to deal with that. First, I worry about her being up by herself and potentially falling .. 2nd, I lose sleep, and that can make me a bit cranky. I have to be firm with her to get her back to bed as well.
Have you guys tried putting one of those fidget blankets on his bed? It worked wonders with our aunt with Alzheimer’s. We would hide candy in it and bought the ones that had zippers and Velcro and ties and straps instead of getting up she would mess with that, of course we still had episodes. We also had a motion sensor on her door so whenever she came out, we caught her before she got too involved in anything. It was just a cheap doorbell motion sensor and the ringer was plugged in in our bedroom, saved a lot of fall risks and also stopped her from getting too involved in the stuff they do that is sundowning and nonsense
My Dad believed in lights out, too!! He would have been 80 this year...He was forever going behind us kids and turning lights out to save from paying high electric bills. ❤
He is awesome he is stuck in his old fashioned ways and can’t understand these lights and blinking things all around him. 😂God love you guys for be aware of him and so patience you guys will miss him no matter what happens. Love this family !!! My award 🥇 to you. 😂
What would he do if there was a fence/gate between the bedrooms and the livingroom? He could go to the bathroom, but not wander. I’m just curious, this is not a critique.
I can completely understand how a different generation raised when he was, eso when you have memory loss & remember the old more than the newer times, how confusing it must be. Even in our younger days you were taught to turn EVERYTHING off before bed or leaving the house. So, Im sure all the new appliances and everything with lights on them can be confusing like something is on that shouldn't be. Even when trying to sleep. When you're younger years ago it was pitch black. I still have trouble sleeping through the dots on the TV, the cable box light, the microwave light, oxygen light, etc ...etc , so I get it. 😅 Hope you're having a good weekend. Now that you're up all nighy again, get that husband to get his butt up and feed those animals he brought home and clean Donalds litterbox like he said on TH-cam he WOULD do when he brought him home.b😅😅😅
Technology and having everything light is so hard for this generation. They are used to pitch darkness to save energy. We have lights on inside and out at our place too, at night.
When you’ve told him that it’s your house in other videos, it seems to stop the questions & move things along, Danielle. You really do an amazing job of handling each situation. Wishing you safe, happy & healthy days ahead! 🫶

You are absolutely right and people find her wrong..
She is a sweetheart with Gold heart
Yes ty girl. ❤️

PRAYERS I WENT THROUGH THAT🎉🎉🎉
Man, been there done that. People just don’t realize how hard this is for the loved one and the caregiver. Grandpa is so lucky to have you and Dan.
The scary part is with all his tinkering HE could be the cause of a fire ...i give you all the credit in the world for something so hard you make it look so easy....blessings ❤❤❤❤❤

Ed’s early morning Tinkering. Just thinking he’s doing his duty keeping everyone safe. 🥰
I hope he went back to sleep, so you can get more sleep.
Except she gets up around 6 to feed the animals everyone said they would care for when they brought them home. 😂😂😂
Dear, sweet grandpa!! God bless Danielle and Dan. They take such wonderful care of Ed.
It's a little scary that he does wander and mess with stuff. I am worried how this might go. Love to Dan and Danielle for taking care of him with such love.❤

God this must be so frustrating to deal with on an every day basis. God bless the family ❤.
Ed is looking out for every one ⭐️✨💫…so sweet.
That one was rough. Mom thought weird shit too. Sad part is they really really believe things. Hope the rest of the day goes better.

Ed is the prototypical Alpha male, always concerned about the safety and well being of his family.
I feel like Y’all might need to add a door to the hall that connects the 2 bedrooms & his bathroom. Then, he couldn’t meander every early morning. But, he’d prob wander into your room instead of out into the other areas.
Re a door - I have said that in the past
Awesome Saturday to you as well. Good morning.

My Dad too !!

I think you are exactly right. Especially about the waste. Makes no sense to waste money!
I am amazed at how he gets around in the dark!

May I ask vitamins he takes Danielle, I fell down and got a big bruise and it still hasn’t healed 3 weeks, but Ed’s face is healing fantastically. Thx

He’s really not into things like that. People have sent him things similar and he doesn’t get it or care. 😉
I do understand your journey. My sweetie came out of our bedroom with five tops on
You done good Danielle,💖💪🙏

Some people don’t seem to understand that you have to treat him as you would a child because that’s the only way you can get through to him.
