It's a heartbreaking disease no doubt. I've talked to family members who have said watching another parent die from cancer was a more blessed way to die. When it's cancer they can still have their memories and carry on mentally with their families.

She’s only doing what has to be done to communicate w Ed.
My 87 yr old daddy is extremely hard of hearing( in fact he reads lips a lot).
So even his little yorkie thinks I’m mad when I have to talk very loudly for daddy to understand 🤷‍♀️.
You have to do whatever works with your parent😏. 12:25

Some people have messed with her??? Wooooow.... The ignorance. But I guess it comes with social media. Must be people who've never dealt with caring in house for a person with health issues. Physical or mental. It's so bipolar, the highs the lows... Bittersweet. Draining. He's a blessed man. ❤

@@haydeedias4250 Oh people have been terrible to her.
There's been a few videos where they don't think she was kind enough or that her tone was harsh. It's ridiculous. Maybe they need to try to do what her and Dan do and see that it isn't easy.

    • @franny5295

I don't think anybody that's not dealt with this is even in a position to pretend to judge. I have a 6.5 year old son and sometimes he pretends not to hear me. He hears, "I'm gonna lock your nintendo switch if you don't..." whatever I've requested more than 3 times. I'm certain they'd take issue with my "tone" too. I have spent just enough time with the elderly to know that he's being very well taken care of. He's clean, fed, talked with, given as many experiences as he can handle and redirected when he needs to be. They're not yelling at him or locking him in his room, obviously he's up roaming, he's not being neglected or otherwise mistreated. People need to hush...

Caring for a Dementia person is on of the hardest task. I know of which I speak I'm a caregiver. Be prepared to repeat yourself a million times a day while being kind and compassionate at the same time. It's NOT easy !!! Also expect the unexpected! I'll never forget walking into the kitchen in the morning and greeted with poop on the kitchen floor and it wasn't from the dog. Another time it was on the dresser 🙄 . You also have to keep eyes on them at all times even when you are sleeping. It's a cruel disease !!! I sincerely wish you well. He is such a sweet man!

I went through this with my grandpa for many years. One of the moments that’s always brings me to tears was when my grandpa asked if I had everything I needed for school as I stood in front of him with a baby in my arms and one holding onto my leg. I was a grown woman, married with children and his concerns were if I had what I needed. It’s been over 30 years and that memory will never fade. God bless you for your patience and care for Ed/ grandpa.❤️

P-Stew . Our grandparents lived 1200 Miles from us but we visited every summer. They had a huge farm and I watched him carry a newborn calf the mama had birthed in a pasture far from the barn. Mama kept rushing him but he calmly talked to her that he was helping her. He was about 70 yrs old then. He used to laugh at me for trying to catch the feral barn cats. He'd say, These ain't like your city cats 😆. I put a huge bandage on a kitten's tail that had almost been severed by a sharp leaf from a cornstalk. The next morning he pointed to the tail with the bandage still attached. It was laying on their porch. He didn't laugh tho bc I was crying. He explained how most mama animals had a natural antibiotic in their saliva and she'd nurse the kitten back to health. The next yr the kitten was alive and well still.
When my 1st daughter was 6 months old we went up. She was so grumpy but when he held her she settled in on his chest and she quieted down. I asked how he was so good with babies. He said his mama died a few days after she had his sister. This was in 1914. He and his brother fed the baby with formula they made. They kept her in a basket on the open oven door to keep her warm. He and grams had 11 kids which helped him learn about babies too. He told me as he snuggled Lorah that there's no such thing as holding a baby too much and they won't get spoiled until after they're 2 yo.
Every summer as we drove away for home he and Grams would wave to us until they were tiny specks only. The year the song Sweet Caroline came out it was playing on WHO Des Moines radio channel when I saw he was crying as he waved goodbye. He was 6'2" and strong as an ox but crying with no embarrassment. At age 95 he was living in assisted living place when he went to his room for a nap after dinner and didn't get up again. He deserved a peaceful passing. He was so wise and kind. Grams had passed 2 yrs before. Now when I hear Sweet Caroline I cry without embarrassment. Both my parents have passed too. I miss them all but I've 4 grands now and hope they love me as much as I did mine. They probably do bc I'm much softer now. Recently my 13 yo grandson and granddaughter were at the pool while their mom and dad barked orders...put on sunscreen, stop splashing, no running etc. When the parents went inside I said, Wow it sure got peaceful and quiet when your parents went inside. The 3 of us burst out laughing. But I told em their parents are the boss and don't rat me out bc it'll get me in trouble.
Wow this is long but your post stirred up a lot of good memories. I'm always sad when ppl share about their families being in shambles bc of addicted parents or abusive ones. Many tho had good grandparents who buoyed then up when they were kids.
I enjoyed your post reminding me of so many memories. May you always find comfort in yours.

Danielle, you are a wonderful and kind person to help look after Dan’s dady. Even in Asian culture like mine, it’s not easy to live together with old parents and look after them this close. You’re a amazing lady and deserve lots of respect from all of us ❤

It must be terrifying to wake up and not know where you are, what year it is, where you are financially and wondering how happy and healthy all your family members are doing until a familiar face comes in and consoles him and let's him know he's loved and not a burden on anyone! You and your family are very compassionate people and the world needs more of that.
