Dude why do you keep running lights? Giving cyclists a bad name...
Because not a single cyclist in NYC obeys all reds. You show me that cyclist and I'll show you a liar. Aside from Downtown Brooklyn and Lower & Midtown Manhattan most red lights is just you waiting at the light for no reason. There are no cars and no pedestrians it's like a red light in the middle of a dessert... do you obey it or run it? I would run it since I am not putting anyone in danger or inconveniencing anyone. Yes the law is to stop, but the law is there to protect the general population in most cases it does not protect them in ALL cases. The red lights are calibrated to cars not bikes so most of the time you're too slow or too fast to have a smooth route. It's not a black and white area and there are infinite shades of gray. I am not going to stop at every light to appease anyone or because the LAW says I have to. I am not after giving cyclists a good name either, I'm a fairly average and sometimes shitty human being sometimes I run a red light, sometimes I stop to help a fallen person or fix a flat tire for a stranger. I make an educated decision as an individual and accept the consequences of what will happen if I make the wrong decision and choose to deal with those consequences. The video doesn't show the hundreds of red lights I do obey because it would be shit stupid to run them because it would be a long video of me standing still.

I drive a car. I guess I too can run red lights and stop signs and basically ignore all the laws. Please don't complain when you run a stop sign and get squashed by a truck.

Eh, if you just look both ways and make sure you can actually see anything coming. (Easy on a bike because of the height a rider is usually at) and you know, don't cross when that truck is coming, one should be fine. Haven't heard of instant truck teleportation in the news either.
Most cyclists slow or stop at a red, look both ways to make sure it safe, and move on or run yellows. Most drivers going down the same street actually prefer that you don't dilly dally and wobble at the start of your acceleration when the green hits either since they don't want to hit you.
Dam those were some crazy car crashes!

I'd like to live in NYC, everything seems so quaint. The city is so young but still old at the same time, trucks and utility vehicles are ancient, not a modern piece of machinery in sight, but they still work!

Proper gear is key. Have to have something wind resistant but not too warm/thick or you'll drown in sweat. Try different gear I think any and all gear you could ever want is already out there. I have yet to figure out how to water-proof myself without sweating profusely. Good Luck :)
Today, in Winnipeg, Canada, I cycled 12km to University in -22C! Nearly -40C with wind chill. Layers and dressing just warm enough is everything!

Daniel Reihl I'm from nyc and it does not get that cold but when it below 40 it makes it hard to go outside when I have to wear so many layers. But I will never be able to bike anywhere if it's below 20. Your one tough person to bike in that weather.
