We are hearing history. Toscanini was a phenomenon, he was devoted body and soul to music, and to his conception of good and evil. He never gave up on his ideas. Nonetheless, I wish I will have his energy when I am 70 like him on this audio footage. SO interesting!
I was already in love with the man...now Im getting crazy for his voice. Simply the one I would marry and want to listen every single day of my life. Maybe is my Italian relatives, maybe he has the right passion and flame in his expression.
@SweetFiness No, he says "follow him", meaning the first violin, who is called first violin because he leads the whole string session of the orchestra.
@nephelais correcto - The Maestro, who has been coming to this country since 1908, speaks better English than most of us. Almost as great a linguist as he is a musician, he coaxes and curses his men in perfect, idiomatic French, German and Spanish as well as English and Italian.
This is very simple : everytime the Maestro is singing (with his poor voice ...) we hear fantastic beautiful music ... far better than the whole orchestra .... 1:46 ......... 2:34 ........... and 3:19 .. miraculous
@arthurkrieck Also, lol, Toscanini was very keen on not treating his orchestra as beginners. You probably already knew this, but many times did Toscanini scold guest conductors when he felt the guest conductor was speaking down to them. Notice (even here) while in rehearsals that Toscanini never stops his players more than twice and when he stops them, he simply tells them how it should sound, and they catch on. And it was for a reason, Toscanini was never wrong, not on one piece in his life!!!
I'd like to understand who put a dislike to such a thing. Mostly I pity them, for not understanding the beauty of what we can hear. Also, they're 17, that brings bad luck! Dimenticavo, grazie GiacomoPuccettone!
Bellissimo! Grazie!
@maxicaas Secondo me dice "contrabbassi follow me" e non "folle". E aggiungo che a 2:41 non dice "e tu che senti?", ma "e tu cosa ridi?" . e infine "ble ble sembran dei carri"
@arthurkrieck Agreed; I like the way a certain article puts it - ...But he explodes when he feels that he is faced with stupidity or stubbornness. It's taken from the following article, a great read if you're a fan of il Maestro: [double u, double double u][dot[mp3berg[dot]com/index-22.htm
listen to this video, you are being shown how the best becomes the best, it's s a simple fist fight to the death.to bad autro toscanini isnt around to instruct every musician on earth, god knows they need him

I am glad that old grouches have their fans. Perhaps I have still hope. Toscanini was a genius but had a tremendous temper. Reminds me of my father.
Magnificent! With any other conductor, this chorus is usually an afterthought!
