I can't help thinking that there is a lesson or two here not just for sailors who would like to take on an ambitions project like yours but more importantly for couples or partners. You support one another and work so well together as a team. A lesson for all couples. God's blessings always.
When I think back to your beginnings on that snowy departure many years ago, I find myself thinking how impressive you are as a team now! Well done indeed! Looking forward to following along into your future.
Always in awe of what you two accomplish! I would imagine that the other side will go even faster, considering all that you have learned and perfected with the first side! This yacht is looking bigger to me, everytime I see it! What a beauty she is going to be!
I mean, I’ll never build a boat, but I’ve learned so much just by watching this! It’s so fascinating and extremely satisfying to see the progress on Ran III! Keep up the lamination fascination! Bryan from Vancouver
I think the combination of showing what you're doing and then some explaination of what is being done and the process behind it is very effective. The fact that both of you are so involved with all aspects of the build shows what effective communicators you are.
It’s great to watch you two !! Sailing the world, raising a wonderful daughter, making a great home and of course building this incredible sailboat!! thanks so much for all the hard work it takes to share it all with us ! Fair winds⛵️
Amazing progress, RAN Sailing! It's incredible to see the dedication and skill you both have in tackling this ambitious project. Your teamwork as a couple is truly inspiring - a valuable lesson for everyone. Keep pushing forward, and congratulations on reaching the halfway point! Your yacht is growing more beautiful with each episode. Can't wait to see the other side go even faster now that you've mastered the process. As always, your informative and engaging explanations make this the best series on the web!
Your family is such an inspiration! My wife & I have been following since shortly after you departed Sweden in season one as we were new to sailing at around that same time. Watching your journey’s & now this incredible project has been such an incredible joy. THANK YOU!
Halfway, congratulations. Your organised and evolved working arrangements are proof of your careful planning and great teamwork. So nice to see harmonious competence.
Halfway on the outside! That is a lot of surface area. A milestone.👴🤗👌 @01:50 I'm happy to see this. It's the easy way to clean tools after using epoxy!👴😉🤗
Great job. I am so impressed with your method, your skill, and how well you and your wife work so well together. The tip about controlling the heat and temperature around the hull is a great one. Agree, winter is better for this work as you can control the temperature. I set my epoxy and hardener into a bucket of hot water to warm it up and it flowed better and mixed easier. Still I learn from your videos. Nice documentation.
Hi , great work your both doing to wards your future sailing adventures . Sit down and enjoy your festive season . All the best and catch you on the next one and have a great new year .👍👍👍🦌
I latched on when you guys were heading to Hawaii. The did the Great North West, where I once lived in Seattle!!! So much looking forward to the chance to go back. You two are Awesome!!! A+!!!👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Johan, your attention to detail is phenomenal. Whether measuring epoxy, cutting fiberglass, ALL of the previous woodwork, as well as your careful consideration and attention to safety. Very impressive, and could easily be a model or "template" for anyone approaching a project of this scale. Excellent, excellent work, and progress! A huge fan from California, USA
A big milestone passed, well done. Very interesting to listen to both of you elaborating on the details of laminating. It is a complex undertaking on the scale seen here.
😊 Halfway? On the hull build, WOW. So many wonderful results and attentions to detail happens when family pull together ❤️. Outfitting the interior will require a team of capenters equal to Johan's skills. Thanks for walking us through it, and some fun with the snow. Merry Christmas!
Great progress! I actually saw a boat looking very much like your design renders here in our local marina in Nynäshamn, approximately the same size and with that saloon and negative front windows. It has a black hull that looks really good.
Great progress folks. Enjoying watching a fellow boat builder. MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) will soften cured epoxy enough for it to be cleaned off your rollers. It's slow but it does work. Cheers from Canada!
You guys are amazing and incredibly talented. I have so much respect for you both, and I'm really enjoying watching Ran III take shape. Have a great Christmas!
The boat is looking great, keep up the good work! I just wanted to say thankyou for your fascinating channel and wish the three of you a merry Christmas and a productive new year. Cheers from Australia, Hugh 🎄⚓👍⛵🥃🥃🍼
PS, I noticed on the Duracell project he has a large plastic bucket with an airtight lid that he keeps a quantity of acetone in permanently. At the end of a job he simply throws his tools into the bucket. He keeps all his tools in this bucket so he never has to clean any of them. Quite clever I thought as the acetone lasts months I believe. Cheers
Great progress. Working with epoxy on that much surface is actually better in winter in a heated environment - more control over temperature. Started building the strong back for an Aroha 29. Gas heater in the space and I plan on fiberglassing the hull in the winter. Just warm enough that the medium epoxy is workable, then bump the heat a few degrees to set. Repeat. 👍
Awesome project, I’m envious, it’s funny at times during a large project the thought of having it finished can seem un imaginable then one day it’s done
Others have mentioned it, but to emphasize, Acetone is incredibly volatile and flammable! The vapors are heavier than air and could quickly build in your enclosed, heated work area. I would urge the utmost caution!
Welcome everyone to the Fourth Annual Sailing Channel Awards! First, a big thanks to all of our favorite Sailing Channels who helped us vicariously crew along with you as you sail around the globe. Second, thanks to all who voted and either viewed the videos or even became patreons to help keep the content coming! With that said, our Award for Best DIY Boat Build From Scratch goes again to none other than our beloved RAN. Congrats, and as I have said, any damned fool can go out and buy a new boat, far fewer can buy an old boat and restore it to a high level, but only the most intrepid, industrious, and skilled are willing to build their own dream boat from scratch! And you have managed to keep the content interesting for the audience! And who doesn’t love Vera? Please keep at it and we will keep watching.
The sore shoulders and calves will be a distant memory when you are enjoying a glass of wine at a secluded anchorage thinking "Aww, it wasn't so bad." 😊 Congratulations on another milestone! ❤
You make it seem and look easy.. I know better but you have definitely improved your fiberglass laying skills compared to the first time when you had all kinds of help.. the second half should go smoother and quicker than expected, especially with the saturation table
Congratulations , the hull is looking great . You two are an amazing team it's going to be epic watching you build this boat . Best wishes for the New Year from San Diego , Ca USA
Congratulations -- thanks for sharing your dream as it comes alive! You are in a great flow and it's so exciting watching you make more awesome progress!!!! I'm pretty sure you're aware of this *knowing how thorough and careful you are!*, but since you are such awesome people for whom I want only good things (and, knowing that Acetone is so commonly used among sailors as to seem "normal"/fine), I will say it anyway: Acetone vapors are toxic (to breathe or touch) and it is heavier than air and highly flammable, so hoping you are taking appropriate precautions in your enclosed workspace with extreme care around risk of sparks. Peace and love, Lee
I know you guys are documenting this process in detail, and sharing your learning process as you go along, which is a great resource. But have you considered also documenting it more formally, perhaps in the form of a book? It would be quite valuable to those who follow your example.
Another great chapter. By the way the fact that you work in the winter, heating the barn theres little humidity i assume and thats great for the lamination. Thanks again
It feels so good to have reached halfway! Check out our merch store and get your Ran Sailing tee ransailingstore.com

With every episode I am more impressed with your dedication and skill. Best series on the web by far.
Thanks for the kind feedback! 😊
Binge watching, and seeing the amazing progress, makes me so happy. Johan and Malin, you rock!
I miss those days when I had projects, enjoy them while you can.
The 3 P's of any project; Patience, Perseverance and Profanity. Your upbeat presentation is impressive, you're a better man than I.
Always in awe of what you two accomplish! I would imagine that the other side will go even faster, considering all that you have learned and perfected with the first side! This yacht is looking bigger to me, everytime I see it! What a beauty she is going to be!

I bet it feels good to have hit this milestone of being half done with the glassing of the outside of the hull.
I think the combination of showing what you're doing and then some explaination of what is being done and the process behind it is very effective. The fact that both of you are so involved with all aspects of the build shows what effective communicators you are.
Can’t wait for the work to continue, this video just went by so quickly
Dear Johan & Family: We are so impressed with your dedication with your fabulous project. We are wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
I am very impressed, by your calm way to optimize the process and care for environment! I wish you a contemplative 3rd Advent 🕯🕯🕯

It's brilliant to use an alternative to acetone, which is also very flammable and creates a fire hazard.
fantastic, you are doing such incredible work

Great progress, you really have built a nice work process. Hoping a happy holidays to your family.
I'm enjoying this a lot.👍
Hi guys your cracking on your yacht is looking fantastic
Fantastic family and project! Have you ever considered inviting volunteers, apart from the family we saw? There are a lot of skilled people out there.
You can clear your roller that has gone solid with resin using a blow lamp to burn it off
