    Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode # 108: 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi
    #musclecar #v8tv
    www.musclecarof... - The Dodge Charger is one of the most menacing looking Muscle Cars, and this 1970 backs up the look with power from a 426 cube Hemi V8. It is one of just 56 made with an automatic transmission behind the Hemi, out of a total of 112 Hemi cars built in 1970. One of the other unique features is the color, known as EB3 LIght Blue Metallic, which contrasts nicely with the black vinyl top and code V8W, the white transverse rear stripe option. It's an awesome ride from the Brothers Collection!

    I had the 1970 383 - 4 bbl with a torque flite automatic in K5 (Deep Burnt metal flake Orange) with a white vinyl top with Matching Burnt Orange interior with Bucket Seats. Bought it for 1800.00 at the end my senior year of HS and drove it through college. My best friend had the 440 RT in metal green. I could keep up with him until about 80 mph then he would smoke me. Best car I ever owned.

    LOL...@ Kevin.... You are good. Thks for laffs. I was in college at Tyler Jr. College when this car came thru the dealer (at that time) on Broadway St. For what it is worth...i remember this very car. Several of us went down there to see it. In those days we kept close tabs on what was ordered by individuals and what the dealer kept on the lot, (locally) be it Ford, Chevrolet, or Chrysler. Many of us raced at the (now defunct since 1985) I-20 Darg Strip. We often knew what was coming our way when and before they even entered the gates.
    Again...so much appreciate your humor and yet all the research that you people do to keep Muscle Alive.
    Thanks from Texas

    My uncle went to the Dodge dealership in late 69 early 70 and had to choose between a Charger and Challenger. God, what a choice!!!!! Lucky man

    I have a 74 Charger as my 1st car since July 1995 for $1500 bucks and still have it to this very day. I drove that thing all over the southern and central coast. Put on over 100K mi. Car had like 60-70K mi when I bought it. Planning on hopping up the 400 magnum someday and putting on a quick steer steering box so it won't handle like shit. I put on superstock leaf springs a few yrs ago and Cragars, repainted the butterscotch yellow with 6pack hood and 71 RT/Superbee longitudinal stripes, removed the vinyl top.

      Nice Terry, congrats. I owned a 73, 400 4 bbl and torqeflight slap stick.
      Built it some but not to race Alot, had cars for that but u can build 400s good
      It's just the answer to a 383 and it's a fun car
      My Road Runner 440 6 bbl 69 A-12 I got at 17 and same with my 440 RT/SE CHARGER.
      I'm 53 now so had them for 36 years. Have raced them for 33 yrs
      Still 9 out of 10 for both at shows. RUNNER BROKE INTO THE 8s first WEEKEND of the season last Saturday.
      Charger runs 10.22

      Check out a Z-65 steering box for Monte Carlo SS. Used when they ran 15 x 8 alloy styled rims and Gatorback Goodyear tires, and Aerocoupe rear glass. Was power assist, but you can bypass and run manual... very short lock-to-lock. And should be out of the way.

    i owned a 70 r/t 440+6 & it was fun flooring it around a corner and letting the manual steering countersteer itself as the entire car went sideways bad. Its amazing that something that looks this beautiful was built so cheaply & handled like shit.

    Looking for info on a stolen 197O Charger R/T SE, 440 w/ A/C. Southern California...Newport Beach area. Column damaged at ignition lock. Last seen summer 1982. Stolen once prior, possibly before repaint.Sublime factory paint under a thin layer of resale Yellow...deluxe black interior. PW, PS, PDB (front), automatic console, black vinyl top. Had bad air shocks, slotted alloy rims, and front cross member only a couple inches off pavement...so in 1982....it looked pretty cool lowered over big rear tires...before Pro Street really hit hard out there. Owner going for a Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry look.

    6:10 It is an EB3 color, but it is called a "Light Blue" metallic, not "Medium Blue." For 1970 Chargers, there was no color called "Medium Blue." The EB5 was "Bright Blue" and EB7 was "Dark Blue."

    Nice video of a awesome car. I believe your torque figure ( 425) is incorrect. Chrysler rated the hemi at 490 at 4000rpm. Also, the hemi could safely be run up to 6500rpm, at which point is was producing around 475hp.

  • @ronyeahright9536
    @ronyeahright9536 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    what's that color combination called again? haha...just bustin'. great car, and great video. I always learn something new. So the Super Bee 440 6 pack with 4:10's was a better low end torque monster off the line, and the Charger Hemi had higher revs, 3:55's and more top end. Now if I can just remember that.

    Didn’t Dodge build an aero version of this car with flush grille and exposed headlights? I believe they did something with the rear window as well. It was a limited run so the car would qualify for NASCAR. It actually looked cooler than the stock model IMO.

    Hemi Cars only came from
    Hamtramck Michigan ?
    Not Saint Louis or
    Los Angeles
    R/T stood for
    RAPID TRANSIT
    Chrysler Dealers had
    Join the Rapid Transit
    System !! Posters in the sales dept showroom's
    I guess all the MOPAR expert books and archived Chrysler videos are wrong !!

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Although R/T lent itself to "Rapid Transit", it stood for Road / Track. The "Rapid Transit" promotional program was as you described, with films, commercials, posters, a whole fan club, but that started in 1970, whereas you could get a Charger R/T back in 1968. This link shares some of the colorful history of the Rapid Transit campagin: www.drivingline.com/articles/plymouths-rapid-transit-system-was-the-most-innovative-muscle-car-promotion-of-the-era/

  • @theclever3963

    What was interesting about the Chargers was that outside of the HEMI badging on the hemi cars, there was no other engine badging for any of the other engines that were available, ie...440 six pack, 440 magnum or 383 magnum..

    • @jtp336
      @jtp336 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On 70 Chargers, there was an option for "hood callouts" for 440 and Hemi cars, I think it was V24. It put the word "HEMI", or "440" in big letters in the hood scallops.

      @juliansommer8600 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but maybe the '70 was a bit heavier, but more likely that it's because of the automatic tranny, which weren't as fast as they are today and were usually a bit slower than the manuals.
