The first car that I bought at age 18 upon high school graduation was a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in Plum Crazy (purple) with white top & interior, and the 440 Magnum engine. So fast. Could spin the tires for blocks (not that I ever did that...). Cost in 1976? $500. Beside awful gas mileage, the only other down side (for me) was that guys were always trying to steal it. One morning my father came out the front door of the house and found a guy sitting in the driver's seat. He was able to break into the car, but he didn't know how to start it!
Yes 100% correct!!, EB3 was a great color..I had a 1970 Challenger R/T 383 Magnum with a black vinyl top and loved it for 4 years when i was just 19 years old...
My Parents had a 1970 Charger SE, 383 Magnum, bought new, same color combination which is my favorite of course. Unfortunately they sold it due to the fake oil crisis in the 70"s. Love this Hemi version which is the ultimate car in my opinion! Any 1970 Charger is a Gem and no other car created, in existence gets my blood pumping like the Charger does!
I’ve been watching your videos for some time, and I’ve got to say that I wouldn’t change a thing. Stunningly beautiful and bone stock vehicles, great photography and a thoughtful commentary. This Charger, in particular, is to die for.
These videos, the cars, and the information are 2nd to none. And PLEASE.........leave a few of those bloopers in too, they really add to the fun. THANK YOU!!!
For all the commentors below who aren't old enough to have actually experienced the muscle car era, let me just say that the 426 HEMI was overhyped on the street but not on the dragstrip. I owned a 1969 Hemi Roadrunner, 4spd car and a 440 six pack super bee and a 71 440-6 cuda. The Hemi's were a pain in the ass to say the least to keep running tight on the street from the factory whereas the 440 six packs were tight and were turn key performers right off the showroom.
You would think the opposite because of the carbarators to keep them tuned I know a few guys that have hemis and they don’t have a problem I have a friend and he drives his all over the place no problems other than tHe new fuel ?
I like the first gen Charger based on the Coronet. My reasoning is that fantastic interior with front and rear buckets and a console that runs the full length of the interior. Also has early adoption of LED. lighting in the guage cluster.

I live in Brazil and those american Dodge Chargers are rare as a unicorn. Here in Brazil I'm a big fan of Chevrolet. But for foreign cars, my heart pumps in high revs to Ford models (Mustang by the way). But I love those 1968-1970 Mopars.
A friend of mine had a 1970 Charger R/T 440 six pack in the 80's - it was an authentic car and was jet black lacquer. I was a 4 speed pistol grip and was just a sinister bad ass car. I wish I had it today.
What a great vid, beautiful car... Good on you for showing the out takes- very funny stuff, shows some humility. I swear, you have the best job in the world getting to drive these cars the way you do. It's making me very envious
Great channel you have, I remember all this cars feature here from 1962 -1974, see all in Laredo Texas dealers, Fords, Chevrolets, Mopars brand news and in the streets in my Hometown Monterrey Mexico, I am a Mopar and Jaguar guy, best regards from Mexico, and keep the good work.
0:50 - Note the fuselage design, where the bottom portion of the doors and rocker panels form a smooth, continuous curve under the body body that envelops the car, reducing its perceived mass and giving it an organic appearance, like a jet fighter. The origin of “fuselage design” was, unsurprisingly, aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, who got his start designing aircraft. At Jaguar in the 1950s, he applied wind tunnel testing and mathematical calculations to designing the LeMans-winning D-Type and the legendary E-Type, considered a nearly ideal combination of aesthetics and functionality. His masterpiece was the 12-cylinder mid-engined Jaguar XJ13, a sports racing car that intended for competition at Le Mans, but disqualified by a rule change, so it never entered production.
Overall love the car hate the color. Also once they built the 1969 Dodge Charger ultimately was the best-looking Charger of all. My opinion only I just happen to love the rounded tail lights. Otherwise this model of Dodge Charger was the best looking car of all time ever created by man. There hasn't been anything like it since. Love the show keep up the great work.
Holy crap, I have the slightly older sister to this 70 Charger, my 70 Charger was built October 6th 1969 in St. Louis and lived most of it's life near Lubbock Texas as far as I know. Only difference is my Charger is an A73 special value package, XH code base model Charger, triple Eb5, and was a 318 2 barrel, column shifted, bench seat Charger. It is kind of neat to think that your Hemi Charger was probably just down the assembly line from mine, and they were on opposite ends of the performance spectrum.

This guy has a really nice and relaxed speaking style and I love how they get into the details of the cars and give appropriate comments of small details rather than glossing over them It's the small details that really make these cars more desirable. That car by the way had the Tic-Tac-Tock which was shown but the special significance over the standard one not mentioned here - I think they were optional? Or maybe standard on the R/T. I just find it annoying how they keep that undercurrent of porno music going in the background while the guy is speaking. At the start and end of the video is acceptable but not sure why they continue the music in competition with the narrative. It's just so unnecessary. It's like a couple of blowflies continually flying around you while you are trying to have a picnic. It's not cool like they are trying to make it seem.
I kind of hate to say it, but this charger with its 426 hemi wouldn’t have a chance against the 392 hemi in the charger now, let alone the hellcat charger. Top speed or acceleration is nowhere close, but the 69 chargers were beautiful .

A top speed of only 130 with a 3.55 gear?

Were the guages supposed to be yellow, or are they just aged?
The top speed was rated more than 130. I had a 70 Charger R/T 440 Magnum and I got it up to 130-135 and that was with stock factory exhaust.

They probably didn't rate the top speed.
But it would depend on the axle ratio.
They ran out of gear, not power. That was the limiting factor in top speed.

Wait a minute! Did I see a 8 3/4 in the back. Don't all hemi cars have danas?
Nope, Dana 60 was an option on Hemi's. For whatever reason though, it was required on any 440+6 car
Actually wether you got a Dana 60 standard or optional depended on which transmission you got behind your 440+6 or HEMI.
