- Welcome to another video, today we'll be looking at Nam Yum น้ำยำ salad dressing. You can use this as a dressing for your favourite Thai salads or use it as a dipping sauce for seafood and meats. This is bursting with umami, spicy, sour, salty and a touch of sweetness.
Enjoy.
Here's the recipe:
Handful of garlic
50g Coriander root
100g Coriander leaves
4 tbsp fish sauce (although we used an extra one after tasting) Squid brand is best
4 limes (although we used an extra one after tasting)
1 Tbsp White vinegar
2 Tbsp Palm sugar
1 Tbsp White sugar
4/5 Green Birds eye chilli
20 Red birds eye chilli
As with all Asian cooking this is a rough guide with regards to amounts, adjust for your own taste and spice tolerance.
If you want to make it spicier then toast birds eye chillies instead of large sweet chilli.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Enjoy!!!!!!!

Made my mouth water.
And your nose run lol
Thank you very much for this! It was so delicious that I kept sipping it all day long from a micro spoon.
Hahahahah okay, you must have had interesting breath on that day.
This looks great. Thank you for sharing. Do you need to keep the dressing refrigerated? How long will it stay good/last?

I’m so glad I found your channel……..
We're so glad too Karen! Thanks for watching.
If i was a drunk...i definitely would give it a go...and im not talking about the sauce 😂
Why do you avoid the center of the lime? I’m in love with this fish sauce 🫶🏽
Hi! I’m new subscriber and I was looking for this kind of sea food sauce salad. It’s very hard to find palm sugar here in Alaska. Can I use brown sugar instead of palm sugar? Thank you much 😊❤
Watching from Alaska USA 🇺🇸
Yes definitely you can, but add it bit by bit and keep tasting until you get the flavour you like
@@FitousThaiKitchen thank you much 🙏❤️
Finally I know how to make this. I have all ingredients except lime.
Go for it, enjoy let us know what you try it with. Actually this goes well with bbq pork too.
Thanks for sharing this recipe. Can leftover sauce be kept in the fridge and for how long?
Hi Mary yes you can keep it in the fridge, maximum one week. But is infinitely better when freshly made, otherwise you can chuck in some fresh coriander to wake it up.
Super presentation Ma'am. What is the alternative for fish sauce.❤
I've used soy sauce instead
Look so delicious Yummy 😋😋😋Thank you
It's really addictive.
Simple.
Does this need to be refrigerated? How many days/weeks will this last in the fridge or counter? Thanks for this recipe!
Yes it should be refrigerated , it should last a couple of weeks.
Mine immortal as long as it’s in the fridge 😂😂😂
It looked hot from the beginning. How many chiles would you have used?
I’m allergic to limes (anything citrus). What would you recommend using
Instead of the limes in this recipe ?
You could try using a runny tamarind juice, the flavour profile will change a bit. I think this is the best option.
What is a good substitute for coriander root? We don’t have that in any Asian grocery where I live unfortunately
I'd say the coriander stems and more coriander! It's such a key ingredient, and why we can't duplicate it!! It's that secret, special ingredient 😊
Definitely what Nora says, coriander stems and coriander, it will still taste great but she's right in that the coriander root just elevates it, hard to describe how but that little root has a depth of flavour that far outshines the coriander leaves.
Can't find corriader root. What is a good substitute? I think i will buy some seed and grow my own
As discussed, just use the stems and the leaves. Thanks for watching
I am living in san Diego with some Thai people in our neighborhood but can find
Green Birds eye chilli
And Red birds eye chilli
Pls any hints for substitute, thanks
Sorry did you mean you can't find Thai bird's eye chilli?
People, so critical, so opinionated. She is merely sharing her way. No one said you have to do it exactly how she did it, GEEZ! Besides whatever “germs” she mixed in by reusing the spoon she used to taste it, they all died from all the chili’s. GET A LIFE 🎉😊
Thank you so much!
Put some RESPECT on her way, her recipe, her ‘sharing’ her ‘knowledge’ and her WISDOM of EXPERIENCE 🤨🤔🤨PLEASE check your doubtful words!!! At any given point you are at HOME watching or lunchbreak, can adjust ❤ accordingly to YOUR taste!!! Point of TRUTH/FACT: every single one of us has had moms, aunties, and grammas ‘tasting’ spoon-WE ALL GOT COOTIES!!!😂😂😂 until errbody got the memo not to cross contaminate! I always teach with the ‘adjust it to YOUR liking and comfort’ statement. Myself personally being gramma age love food my JOY is cooking, imma foodie-in restaurant/hospitality industry over 40+ years I’m GOOD, you want my food, and you want this wonderful ladies recipe because she’s just as ‘seasoned’ as her recipes! Have a little gratitude for sharing what could be the best ANYWHERE, ‘ancient Chinese secret’ (Thai, Japanese, etc) you’re BLESSED to receive this tutorial! Now have several seats, close your mouth and observe mastery at its FINEST or go to your room with no dinner!!! THANK YOU and stay BLESSED and eager to LEARN!!! 🤔🤨🤔thank you🙏🏻so much for sharing your recipe!!! Can’t wait to try it-minus a few chilis as imma wimp!!!🙏🏻❤️🤔
Great! Job😊❤ I do a sauce too similar thanks😊 will add fish sauce and palm suger love garlic chillies from mara👋👩🦼🙏👏👏👩🦼
Thank you my dear, Thai sauces have endless variations, we've barely scratched the surface.
Use the serving spoon!
No need, it's all for me mwahahahahhahah.
Wow I love spicy food those red chillies looks so good and hot 🥵 😂😂
I think I'll take some of the seeds out way too many
Too hot
Noooooooo, no such thing as too hot LOL!
why is there a dog crying in the video.
Wow you ruined the bowl of sauce lol
It's all good
How?
He contaminated the sauce by dunking the fish in it. Huge Faux pas. @@cinnamoroll100
@cinnamoroll100 It's probably towards the end when the piece of fish was dipped in the entire bowl that was just made. Personally, I would've scooped up a portion of the sauce onto a smaller bowl and save the remaining sauce for other meats/seafood. I can always add more sauce to my smaller bowl from the main one. So yea, I can see why it got "ruined" in a sense. 😂
Sure did
she doesn't trim off the woody end of the garlic cloves and the woody tops from the peppers... what a disaster!
No need! Why do you want to waste your time with unnecessary extra work? In Thailand, they sometimes leave the skin on the garlic too, to add extra flavour.
Much better if you add the skin garlic and I love it! ❤❤❤
She is right with extra flavor and I agree with her! 😊
@@Bloom868 how much you did you get paid to say this?
@@johng8330 are you kidding me? I’m Asian too.. that’s why I knew it!
@@FitousThaiKitchenyou're right with the extra flavor! That's also how we do it here!
Looks like she used the spoon to taste the sauce and dipped it in the bowl again! So much for hygiene!!
The sauce that was made was for our family, not for the customers.
Not for your consumption😂
I'm sure it won't affect the flavor if you use a new spoon for tasting
Get over it. She’s not selling it
Get a life
