Original top gear was pretty scripted and staged a lot of the time but it always felt pretty legit, feels like everything is hammed up a lot more with the grand tour , kinda ruins it for me. Maybe it's Amazon tryna appeal to Americans more or something

Nah, Richard has and will always be my favorite. James is my second favorite, but Richard is one of the only people I've taken an immediate liking to. He never fails to make me laugh.

Gondolas are actually rather sturdy as a shallow longboat (kinda have to be for someone to stand at the end at all times while people are frequently getting in and out).
I love their dynamics, they contrast and complement each other and it’s a joy to see them mess with one another.

So for those of you who haven't watched the episode, Jeremy was driving an orange Aston Martin exile James and Hammond were making fun of it for being brown, That's why he corrects James when he says the boat is brown.
And also for the not getting out of square part, Jeremy and May had tweeted that Hammond would be in a certain place so that fans swarm him and while Jeremy and James have a moment of quietness.
The over dramatic gondolier fall was hilarious.

Yes but even their staged plots, mishaps and challenges are insane and pretty damn scary sometimes. Skiing in cars, the insane bridges and waterways they've crossed. Bolivia's Death Road. James May doing 259 in a Veyron.

Their version of Top Gear was in decline for years. Then the Grand Tour started and the decline has continued. Top Gear in the years of the North Pole special, Africa special etc was probably my favourite show of all time but it's sadly declined so badly now that I don't ever watch it...
