    If you have two puppies you need to be aware of something called Littermate Syndrome. If you have two please watch this video: th-cam.com/video/FD0PJm21ATo/w-d-xo.html

      I have a 2 year old rescue, he’s a redbone coonhound and he is so sweet and calm with me and my husband at home but the minute he encounters someone new at the house or out in public he goes crazy barking, and jumping. He’s never aggressive he’s just very loud with the barking and pulling on the leash to jump on the new person. Is he too old for me to correct this?

      Hi Tonya! He is definitely not too old! Here is a video on stopping leash pulling. You can practice this in public and even use the same techniques in the house when guests come over. th-cam.com/video/DdeHrc4pCmA/w-d-xo.html

    I guess my thought is what if you don't know that many people, how do you find other dogs and people the puppy could meet that are safe?

      We do people intros at places like Home Depot since they are dog friendly but generally don't have a ton of dog traffic. For dog intros I would just walk through a nice neighborhood on the weekend and strike up conversations with dog owners. We do this with our clients during house calls all the time.

    Thank you for all your great tips. I have a pretty confident 12 year old that pulls the leash to meet people/ dogs and jumps up to nip te dogs (tries to get them to play). How do I stop him doing that and be more calm?

    What to do if we missed that period of 16 weeks?

    • @SuburbanK9DogTraining

      Hey! We recommend working as hard as possible starting now if you missed the critical socialization window. We work with clients every day who missed the window and we start by making a custom socialization plan based upon their dog. What breed and age is your dog? Also, are you currently seeing any socialization issues with other dogs or people?

      @@SuburbanK9DogTraining Hey! He is Rough Collie, 12 weeks old(with me from 8w), but not fully vaccinated. For people, he gets over excited when someone visits, for dogs that were at vet he ignored them. Oh i almost forgot, he bites me(hands and legs when walking), at first this was soft now he is biting harder and barks quite loud when i sit on couch. I do not allow him to jump on it. He does not want to be petted, bites almost always(when he gets tired then it is possible to pet him). This is short info, it's my first dog ever.

      @@AndjelkoNS He sounds like a handful! Since he is only 12 weeks you still have a solid month of great socialization time within his socialization window. I would definitely focus on him meeting at least 100 people in the near future.
      It is great he was ignoring dogs at the vet, but I would get him around healthy dogs soon to see what he acts like. If he is overly excited or wild when he sees a dog that is not a bad sign! Puppies love to bite and growl and most times it is normal behavior. It is important to focus on teaching him manners, but a little exuberance around other dogs is a sign of a happy/confident dog.
      I would practice a lot of leash training with him in the near future. This is a way to calm him down, establish leadership and teach him to focus. If he bites when on leash just nudge him away or give a little tug on the leash and keep training. When he realizes the behavior doesn't get a play response from you he will start doing it less.
      Also, keep in mind that sometimes puppies get overly tired and act out (kinda like toddlers). If he has been busy playing and then won't calm down try putting him in the crate. Often they pass out pretty quickly due to being over tired.
      Is potty training going ok? Here is a link to a video if you need any help with it! th-cam.com/video/H4PFXo7qC98/w-d-xo.html

    What if I missed the socialization period? I have a 18 week old GSD and he is good with dogs but scared of humans. He only barks. He trusts them after treats but still gets scared. Is there any tips? Please help 🙏

    • @SuburbanK9DogTraining

      Don't worry! We see that all the time! I would start by getting your pup very well trained on leash and teaching him the heel command. This will serve as a great calming technique when working in public. If he is able to heel properly most of the barking will go away and intros will be easier.
      Here are a few videos to watch. They are all quite different and I would suggest watching all of them and then picking which approach makes sense based upon your dog.

    What do you think about a dog friendly restaurant on the patio?

    • @SuburbanK9DogTraining
      @SuburbanK9DogTraining  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question! It depends on the restaurant. We go to a lot of dog friendly patios that don't have too many dogs there and have concrete floors that are cleaned often. I would be comfortable taking my own puppy to one of these!
      I also see some places (especially in busier cities) where there are a ton of dogs in and out and they often have lots of gravel or fake grass. I would be more hesitant to go to these with a young puppy because of the higher amount of foot traffic and the fact that they are harder to clean.
      Is your puppy doing well overall?

    What if my dog is 15 weeks old can I do this all within a week?

    • @SuburbanK9DogTraining
      @SuburbanK9DogTraining  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is a great question! I would just work as hard as possible over the next month or so. The window doesn't shut on a particular day and just slowly closes around 16 weeks. If you work hard and meet a lot of dogs and people there is still time to make a lot of progress. What breed is your dog?

      Thank you! I do have another question. He listens to me when I tell him commands but will completely ignore my partner when he gives him any kind of commands even him just calling his name he doesn't acknowledge him at all. How do I change this? He wants him to love him too.
