I feel like the end of the Return of the Jedi and Luke's victory was the ultimate and best ending in cinematic history. Luke won, not because he overpowered his enemy with pure strength or skill, he won because he stuck to his own principles and morals. He won because his beliefs were stronger than that of Palpatine's. In the end, Luke could've killed Vader, but instead, he stuck true to being a Jedi and showed compassion and love, instead of fear and anger. And in the end, Love and Compassion overcame Fear and Anger. The Light overcame the Dark. And Anakin defeated Darth Vader.
I think this is on point. Twice before we saw someone anakin loved defeat him and challenge the dark side within him. That was Ashoka and obi wan. Both landed near fatal blows but Luke decided to show him unconditional mercy.
For real. It's why I think the prequels could have been so much more. Anakin and Luke both rejected the teachings of their masters for what they believed; but in polar opposite ways. Anakins fall could have been such a great antithesis to Luke's rise. If it had been handled better, it would have made Luke sticking to his principles and turning Anakin even more powerful
After Anakin died in his son's arms, Obi-Wan called out into the void, "Anakin." A moment later, Obi-Wan heard a familiar voice return from the darkness. "Obi-Wan? Master, I'm so sorry. So very, very -" "Anakin, listen carefully," Obi-Wan interrupted. "You are in the netherworld of the Force, but if you ever wish to revisit corporeal space, then I still have one thing left to teach you. A way to become one with the Force. If you choose this path to immortality, then you must listen now, before your consciousness fades." Obi-Wan sensed confusion and remorse in Anakin's psyche, then Anakin answered, "But Master . . . why me? " "Because you ended the horror, Anakin," Obi-Wan said. "Because you fulfilled the prophecy. Because you were . . . and are . . . the Chosen One." But Obi-Wan knew in his heart that those were not the only reasons. He added, "Because I was wrong about you. And because I am your friend." Anakin answered quietly, "Thank you, Master."
(Epilogue) Anakin answered quietly, "Thank you, Master." "And Anakin, I want you to always remember one thing." "What is it master?" Anakin said inquisitively "I told you it was over,I had the high ground! It is your fault you got turned into an asthmatic cyborg you stupid ****!"
One of the reasons I love Anakin and Luke as well as their relationship, as short as it may have been. No one believed in Anakin’s redemption, no one could see the good in him as Vader, and no one could bring him back to the light. The only one who could was his son
I think if Obi Wan listened closely when Vader tells him that Anakin was dead and Vader killed him....that was the small bit of the Light Side still inside of Anakin/Vader. Wouldn't a Sith Lord want his opponent suffering in pain? Wouldn't Vader rub it in Obi Wan's face, that Obi Wan did kill Anakin? That it was all Obi Wan's fault? Just a few minutes before that, we had Obi Wan letting go of the past and embracing the future, thus regaining and deepening Obi Wan's connection to the Light Side, allowing him to defeat Anakin/Vader. Instead, Vader releases Obi Wan from the obvious pain and suffering that Obi Wan had endured for 10 years.
See I would agree with you. I have heard many people say that scene shows how far gone he is and just how far he fell, trying to toy with Obi-Wan's emotions. I think much as you say it is Anakin taking responsibility for what happened, removing Obi-Wan's guilt and pretty much saying, it is not your fault I fell to the dark side, I am the one who went down this path, I am the one who continues to do this, and this is me now, it is too late and I can not change it, but it is not your fault.
Okay so you said that anakin was telling Obi Wan that vader killed Anakin, so as if it being the small light still inside him what if Ankin was wanting Obi Wan to kill him to finally destroy what he was becoming ?
@@jacobscarbrough1847 No hes saying that anakin comes through for a minute and is taking responsibility for falling to the dark and therefore relieving obiwan of guilt, but he's not asking for death at all. IMO the only part of Anakin and the light side that shines through is when he says 'i am not your failure obiwan'. It's anakin briefly coming through to relieve his old friend and former master of all the guilt he feels upon failing his apprentice. i think the part after where he says 'you didn't kill Anakin i did' is vader taking back control. Just from the way he says it and the way hes almost smiling it's defintely vader talking at that point IMO. I think ppl forget Anakin and vader psychologically are not the same person as said by lucas they are two different ppl and two separate entities trapped within the same body, Anakin the light and Vader the dark. It's unique even as sith go because it's not just Anakin giving into the dark side it's him losing control to this complete foreign personality that's been building and taking hold since essentially the day he started being bullied in the Jedi academy as a padawan. It's not Anakins choice essentially it's more like a different person taking over his mind the more he succumbs to the dark side of the force an extreme, extreme case of severe bi polar personality disorder fuelled by the light and dark side of the force.
@@joshualilleker4005 your point is made even more evident as before vader gives his evil smile, Anakin sheds a tear when Obi wan apologizes. Also the blue light on anakins face vs the red light that highlights vaders yellow sith eyes.
The fact obi wan immediately forgave Anakin for all the suffering he caused is very palpable to me. Obi wan truly did love him like a brother with all his heart.🥲
@@LegDayLas It's not insanity though. It's a dark force that twists and corrupts people. Anakin is to blame for giving in, but after it has a hold of him, he was evil.
I mean Obi Wan tried twice. Had he realized the Jedi had their flaws, I’m sure he would’ve had a better chance, especially if he listened to Qui Gon more. It’s fair for Obi Wan to think that. That’s why I love that Obi Wan and Ashoka could only break each half of Vader’s mask but only Luke could really take off the mask. Which is why I truly don’t believe Luke would’ve been tempted to kill Ben Solo, and think that force ghosts Anakin and Obi Wan would’ve done more to help Luke and Kylo. But that’s another discussion lol.
i don't even know that happened, sequels are non canon in my head canon and that's how it's gonna be otherwise i wouldn't enjoy star wars anymore like it happened when i first saw TLJ and mentally threw up
No my friend, that is the discussion. Both the Sequel series and these Novelization comics simply cause confusion and conflicts in the storyline. Luke wouldn't have given up on Ben. Obi-Wan wouldn't have believed Anakin couldn't be brought back. He would have known about those that returned in the past.
@@rrcccc The Kylo Ren comics make Luke look even worse. Ben was actually a decent kid, and nowhere near the troublemaker that Anakin was. Luke legit had no realistic reason to pull a weapon on him because of a DREAM.
Well thats why the sequels arent canon to some of the star wars fans. Dont get me wrong I like all the characters Finn, Poe, Ben and Rey but all were poorly executed. Poe was a Gary Stu best non-force sensitive pilot. Finn was relegated to a support character with no character arc Ben was rushed but his character was by far the best. Rey the mary sue.
Yoda never pushed Luke to kill Vader - only Obi-Wan expressed that. Yoda said Luke must "confront" Vader, but could not foresee the outcome and was wise enough to recognize that killing Vader was not the only path.
I like to think that by the time Luke was with Yoda, Yoda finally understood what Qui Gonn knew all along. While Obi-Wan was still holding on to the old ways
I think Luke had a leg up being his son. Harnessing all the good he had and the parts of padme existed through him too. I think that soft spot was able to help Anakin overcome Vader in the final moments.
Windu trying to kill palpatine is what cemented his change to the dark side. Palpatine trying to kill luke in an almost identical scene is what cemented His change back to the light.
@@willisstillhere8846 tbh, he may have killed millions but bruh. There were way worse characters like Hux, the guy killed 16Billion people that's like 100x Vader ever did and the guy became a "SPY" 💀. As for Anakin doing what he did, he didn't even have explaination for it. The hate that gathered within him, has let his dark side which put all negative emotions in control made him clueless to what was really happening around him. It's almost like he was in bubble and because of that hated himself with every gut, the reason as to why he was able to let go was his son belief in him.
Kind of interesting how Obi-Wan thought killing Vader would be helpful for Luke. It did not help when it came to Dooku nor when Mace Windu told him that Palpatine needed to die. Making him choose or think death is the only option when Anakin was going for a different path is mostly what lead him further towards the dark side not away from it.
unfortunately for you, Anakin is now God-King of the Universe and has no time for the middling trifles of Basic-Level Force Ghosts like Yoda or Obi-Wan 👏👏
I think the fact that both Yoda and Kenobi had lost faith in the will of the force and now believed that Anakin/Vader couldn't be redeemed shows how far the Jedi of this era and fallen away from the will of the light side and why Qui-Gon Gin would not accept the seat on the council.
I like to think that the Jedi's idea of balance was extremely flawed. They believed that the Light Side overpowering the Dark Side was balance. And they had mostly achieved that by the time Plagueis was around. The Sith were around, sure, but not a major threat in the immediate time frame. To bring balance, the Jedi needed to be brought down to the same level as the Sith. And when this happened, it was an OVER correction. So Vader betraying Palpatine was the final correction. All of this leads to true balance.
The balance of the force is when there are ZERO dark side users. Dark side users want the force to serve them, while light siders such as the jedi serve the force. The dark side is more of a mutation of the force, then a real "side" and the Force always wants it to be destroyed so that balance can be achieved. Numbers don't matter if we are talking about light side users because the Force is already balanced without them, they just help keep that balance by not allowing the dark side to gain any power. It definitely was through the will of the force that the Jedi were destroyed, but not because there were too many of them, but because they had become too politicized and they lost their ways. Luke would eventually rebuild the Jedi order the way it should be.
So you know more about the Force than George Lucas himself? According to him, the Dark side is the corruption, a cancer, while the "Light side" is the Force itself. The Force itself is already balanced, it doesn't need further corruption to make it more balanced.
Yeah I personally reject this because it implies a certain amount of anger, jealousy, hate etc. are good or that the dark side should just be used in moderation. That kinda changes the whole theology of the force. We were told: "If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will..." I do believe there is good and evil in the world and that you are always being tempted to take the low road, give in to your instincts and be a servant of that evil. I've never seen a person that let those emotions direct them achieve a good end.
@@ISCARIOTSHIELD Also, Palpatine tried to mess with the Force to create the perfect sith. Instead, the force answered back by creating Anakin Skywalker (the man destined to bring balance to the force).
Anakin's story is so amazing and pivotal in the Star Wars universe, it is such a shame he was completely ignored in the Sequels and shows how little that team understood about Star Wars.
@@OneNationUnderGod. You are aware that Palpatine returned by cloning in the old EU right? He even lured Luke over to the Dark Side. So technically Disney made sure Luke never turned to the dark side, hence actually honoring Luke more than the old EU ever did. BUT YOU SALTY CUNTS DON'T LIKE THAT DO YOU?
This had to be painful for both Obi Wan and Anakin/Vader. They fought and survived side by side during the Clone Wars followed by a series of brutal duels that saw Anakin lose his limbs and ultimately culminated in Obi Wan becoming a Force Ghost on the first Death Star. To see Anakin return was certainly surprising and shocking to Obi Wan. This no doubt brought out all kinds of guilt, love and sadness but still triumph. It’s a beautiful story. Even though fictional I can see parallels with OEF/OIF vets that fall into competing political views even today.
People seem to forget how Vader murdered so many friends, Jedi, younglings, innocents. Obi Wan was there when it all happened and it makes sense he thinks Anakin is gone. He’d be crazy to cling on to his redemption after 20+ years of all that.
Actually, Obi-Wan WASN'T there when Vader did all that, he was on Utapau. Also, Obi-Wan and the other Jedi were also responsible for how Anakin became Vader. It wasn't just Anakin himself who decided to become Vader, the Jedi pushed him to do it. Being the extremists that they are, they kind of forced Anakin to be a perfect Jedi, their perfect Chosen One. And with him once being a slave, Anakin was again made one at the feet of the Jedi.
@@99thJediWarrior Yes, the Jedi played a part for being too strict. However, a large portion of the blame is on Anakin and especially Palpatine. The guy manipulated and groomed him since he was a kid. And for Anakin to kill everyone to be “strong enough to save Padme”, he’s definitely to blame. My issue is that people seem to place almost all the blame on the Jedi.
@@Lukman_AFC Because in their own way, they did do it. They may not have intended to, but they did so in such a way that made Anakin seem like he wasn't enough. He couldn't even be himself around most of them. A good amount of the Jedi treated him like a weapon instead of a comrade. Save for Qui-Gon, they never truly accepted him as one of their own. They only ever forced the Light on him when he should have gotten to know both sides of the Force, especially since Anakin IS the Force made flesh. The Force had both the Light and the Dark, justvas he did. He needed to have balance in himself if he was to bring balance in himself and the Light was not the only side that needed strengthening. His Dark Side needed attention too and the Jedi, as a whole, disregarded that. Even Qui-Gon could see that and he was the only true Jedi out of all of them. Furthermore, the Jedi of the Prequels were all taught to put the Jedi Code BEFORE the Force. And they were groomed to be lapdog for the Republic. And if you think about it, Anakin wasn't even born under the Republic, he was a slave and the Republic's laws on slavery didn't reach as for as Tatooine. So why would he fight for a Senate that hardly even tried to help someone like him? If anything else, Qui-Gon was the Jedi that Anakin needed to grow into. The others, including Obi-Wan, were all responsible for making Anakin into the monster he became later in life. They all feared his power and treated him like he was a weapon, a tool to do their bidding. And there is only so much that a guy can take before that Order they dedicate themselves to begins to start showing a whole other side that doesn't line up with what they preach. Example: Both Palpatine and Mace Windu tell Anakin the exact same thing in Episode 3 at different times - "He's too dangerous to be left alive." Essentially, the Jedi have become hypocrites. They no longer follow the Force, but they follow politics and use the Force to help them do that. Just. Like. The Sith.
@@Lukman_AFC The Jedi are hugely to blame and yes Anakin does get credit for the blame on it as well but it didn't help that the Jedi were very egotistic, underestimating him and had no faith in him all because of their own opinions. Palpatine decided to use this and use it to a great extent that Anakin ended up Vader.
@@99thJediWarrior Thats absurd, Anakin was selfish. He was willing to kill children and his friends and anyone else all in his desire to save one person. That person who he would’ve never met had it not been for the Jedi that he slaughtered.
i want a Kenobi adventure with Luke this time, maybe a teenager... 5 years later or so?... maybe Maul shows up and we get that epic scene from Rebels but live action ❤
Just hearing the perspective of obi-wan during this time, adds so much depth and deepens the significance of this battle more than any other. I always felt like when luke clashed with vader in the throne room, there is this feeling like there is so many more layers that are being effected by the weight of this battle.
This video really helped me understand how Anakin transcended death. Though I’m still skeptical someone could teach another how to transcend death moments before it happens, this video, at least made it more believable.
Who’s to say he didn’t already know? He wasn’t shocked to hear Obi Wans voice after his death. Or maybe after obi wan disappeared after he died, Vader took it upon himself to learn how to do it. Besides, Anakin had the highest midichlorian count as well as came out of nowhere (no father).. he may have just naturally transcended without needing to learn
I'm a Star Trek girl, can't help it, crews and starships and strategy will always be my draw, really enjoyed the episodes of Clone Wars where the ship combat and star fighters were integral. That said, the *SINGULAR* most important and drawing element to me in ALL of Star Wars is the fact that Luke never gave up on his loved one and insisted that the "rules of attachment" were *WRONG.* For me personally that resounded so clear and firm. You don't give up, you can run out of time, but you do NOT give up. Love is our greatest, most powerful strength. Thanks for this video, I always love when you tie the stories as a whole together with your expertise and insight. May the Force be with y'all!
I like to think that Kenobi assumed Luke got to be the chosen one since Anakin.. well.. "died" like he told maul on tattooine. So after Vader/Ani fullfilled his destiny and brought balance to the force by throwing Palpy to death (sequels are not canon to me:P), Obi Wan must have had an insight and acted quickly to teach Anakin the way to a life as a force ghost. also, the fact that Anakin achieved this power in like 10 minutes while Obi Wan needed a much longer time shows that Ani became one with the force. he not only brought balance to the force but also to himself. he even told luke that he saved him already. probably feeling balanced for the first time in his life and maybe not even denying the dark side in him but re-embracing the light, he became a force ghost with ease.
@@porbenjamas just from what i remember. i dont see obi wan wanting Luke to kill anybody unecessarily, tho. Kenobi just knows that Luke needs to go thru Vader to get to Palpatine.
Very often we hear about jedi, that fell for the dark side (for example, Anakin -> Darth Vader). But we rarely hear about Sith, that changed their view and joined the light side. Can you make a video on that?
@@albumkosong yeah and also Darth Reven. But these are all trained Jedi, that fell for the dark side and came back. What about the ones, that were brought up and trained as sith, but found their way to the light side, without the jedi training.
It’s against the Jedi code to kill an unarmed opponent. Both times he defeated Vader to the point he was no longer a threat and thus it was not the jedi way to kill him.
He did not believe in Anakin, despite the words of Luke and Padme that there was still good in Anakin. Kenobi was most likely stopping the Jedi Code. Obi-Wan's instinct told him not to kill Anakin. Moreover, Qui-Gon's advice is to leave everything to the discretion of the force. The genie knew the future and what Anakin was destined to do to restore balance in the end. And on the Death Star, Kenobi let Vader stab him with a sword in revenge for what he had done to his friend in the past when he merged with the force. Sacrificing himself also for Luke to buy him time to escape.
My question is why force ghost are only allowed to make their presence known at key times? I don’t see what is stopping them from being around at all times
I still think that having to be trained in this "art" is a bit ridiculous. Before they explained it, I used to think it was the connections to others and love that let people become force ghosts, which was why Obi-wan and Anakin became force ghosts when no one else could do it before (as the Jedi shunned all attachments). I wanted to think that maybe their connections to others had become so strong that they learned to keep those connections to their loved ones after death. And the explanation still worked when working in Qui-gon's voice being heard and Yoda explaning that Qui-gon was still around to Obiwan since Qui-Gon really cared about Obi-wan and Anakin. And it worked with Yoda, since Yoda would have come to realize that his methods to not let the Jedi have attachments led to their defeat, and helped to Anakin turning to the dark side, so maybe he tried not to make the same mistakes with Luke. Yeah... It's headcanon, and cliche. But that's what I like to think at least.
I totally get you, I thought it was something similar too, but I prefer now the canon version because otherwise there would be probably millions of other force ghosts. Lots of past sith & jedi had deep connections with other people; there would be a bunch of sith force ghosts trying to wreak havoc everywhere, itd just be a way different story.
You might be mostly right though. From what I know, we don't know what is required to become a force ghost so love and attachment might have something to do with the technique itself. Would also make sense how Obi-wan could give a sparknotes lesson. Vader didn't care anymore, but Anakin cared about Luke, allowing him to perform it.
Honestly I'm worse. I just have as my headcanon, a Jedi dies, they're a force ghost. That's their after life, their Heaven we have never seen but they become one with the Force without losing themselves. Why don't we see them? Well, if anyone here is religious and have had loved ones die, why haven't you seen them? It isn't that hard to imagine. So it's lazy but I'm annoyed whenever they try to make the ability to be a Force Ghost this secret hidden ability you need to learn. And I'm a Roman Catholic, a traditional one at that ~ so I fully believe that eternal life has requirements. What I mean is it isn't a foreign concept to me that to become a Force Ghost isn't just a 'given'. But it annoys me that it isn't in Star Wars. Don't overcomplicate their eternity, y'know?
@@ahums16 As a fellow Christian, I'm going to say this as nicely as possible: Applying Christian logic to Star Wars doesn't work here. Star Wars is a fictional story with fictional rules. Don't confuse reality and fiction. Having faith in God is good and all, and you are entitled to your own beliefs, but you need to realize that your logic doesn't apply to a fictional story that has nothing to do with Christianity. Yes, it borrows a few concepts from it, but at the end of the day, Star Wars is not a Christianity story.
@@Hei_Darkfire Oh yeah I wasn't, I brought that up for an example, saying I fully understand how something in Star Wars like the afterlife can be difficult to attain to, because naturally everyone just turns into the Force and loses their individuality. I just don't like it. :P
My thoughts on this topic are that the difference between obi wan and luke when it comes to vaders redemption is that obi wan has been through it all with anakin aka Darth and to luke he is just his father and nothing more which because of the heart of luke made vader soft and give in to the light
But as a child Luke wanted a life of adventure. If it wasn’t for the Force and his families legacy, he’d have been stuck on Tatooine and eventually became an imperial pilot.
@@Fraustyy Luke said he was only going to apply for being a imperial pilot so he can have a ship so he can fly to join the rebellion. Luke said that’s how his friends were able to join the rebellion, they “joined” the Empire, but really they just stole their ships.
I believe this is what Qui Gon's mission for Obi Wan's training, to bring him to be more connected to the Force and not to kill him and let the Force do it's work to have Anakin bring balance back to the Force. Obi wan's sacrifice in Episode 4, New Hope would allow him to join the living Force to support Anakin's victory over Palpatine. Tha't how the Force works.
Anakin's fall to the dark side was completely preventable had the Jedi teachings accommodated for his position. Or at the very least didn't have all these problematic elements to it
@@fatasssquirrel1731 Yep, Luke summed the Jedi order up well; hubris, hypocrisy, failure were all downfalls. Had Qui Gon survived I think Anakin would have been much better off.
The only problem with that line of thought... it misses the real problem, Palpatine. People focus so much on the weaknesses of the Jedi that they fail to understand the realities of the story. Palpatine would have taken advantage of any weakness to accomplish his goals. Ultimately, Anakin fell because of an expertly orchestrated war that Palpatine controlled from both sides. He found ways to push Anakin and exploit Anakin's weaknesses... not the Jedi's.
According to Jackson and Lucas, Mace Windu is alive. It remains a mystery how his voice got into episode 9 of Disney nonsense. I don't think Windu would be mad at a stupid kid who made a mistake back then. He said that Anakin would make the right choice one day.
I understand why Obi-Wan gave up on him because at the end of the day he was still a slave to the Jedi code. But then that makes me second guess Obi-Wan when he says "you were my brother Anakin" in what context did Obi-Wan mean that?
he trained him taught everything new when anakin went down the dark path he hated the jedi because anakin felt like the jedi were betraying him and plus i hate to bring this up i know you dont read the jarry potter books but anakin wanted to learn more from the force and felt they were holding him back palpatine pulled his strings seduced him and go him on his side i see both anakin and obi wan like brothers even read the book thats no longer canon its written by aan dean foster its a prequel novel to episode 2 attack of the clones its a really good book am reading it and enjoy it more than newer canon but if you are into legends youll see how both anakin and obi wan are like brothers in that books yes anakin felt betreyed because he felt like the concil was not teaching him stuff about the force and they didnt want that to happen plus obi wan kenobi used the dark side of the force when he cut darth maul in half no joke either he did

So to answer your question...brothers not by blood but by emotional bonds..attachments...but unlike obi wan....anakin was not able to let go....obi wan was...after all Satine died in his arms...something Padme did not do with Anakin.
6:59 I Never did like this idea and how this channel seems fond of it. It feels like it was all on Obi-Wan to do this, when I always felt like, 90% of becoming a Force Ghost? Anakin had already done. He brought balance to The Force and understood BOTH sides in his travels, that he just naturally become a Force Ghost on his death the minute he turned to the Light Side again. To add to this, from Legends, one key component that the Force Priestesses taught about becoming a Force Ghost was actually the feeling of Love, which the old Jedi neglected. Something Anakin already knew before and Luke retaught him, so it came natural in many ways for the *embodiment of the force* to naturally lean on these secrets at the end.
It is not surprising that in the series about Kenobi, Vader avenging Mustafar threw Obi-Wan into the fire by doing to him the same way he did to him. At first he not learn Anakin enough and then he lost hope. He did not tell about Padme, Shmi, Qui Gon in order to calm Anakin anger and try to save him with words. Picking the right ones and not what he said. What kind of soulless bastard did he have to be while he watched him burn alive? Not realizing how Vader had hated Palpatine for all these years, who had ruined his life. It was obvious that one day the dark lord's patience would burst. Especially when it comes to his loved ones. Fear for his loved ones led him to the dark side. And the same fear brought him back.
I believe for 20 + years in Kenobi a battle was going on . What his eyes saw and what faith was in his heart way deep. I believe the words Padme said on her death bed ...(..Their is still good in him ). I believe he knew that she was truly a part of Ankin And she isn't force sensitive. But was connected to the strongest force in the SW galaxy & and this galaxy. LOVE. Her words carried more weight in Ben's mind they we give credit for .

I don't think it was possible for Anakin to turn back to the light side unless Obi-wan was killed. Obi-wan's existence was a reminder of Anakin's past and all of the bitterness and anger that he felt serving the Jedi. He would have none of that bitterness towards Luke.
True it had to be Luke that redeemed him. Leia I don't think would be able to have the same results as she was more loyal to Obi- wan. Plus the destruction of Alderan made him irredeemable in her eyes.
I thought of something after I replied. Though Vader couldn't sense leiah as his daughter or at least that's what it seems like in the movies but I thought that would he recognize that maybe she has similar physical qualities to padme.
@@matthewharris5232 It's possible. I think that personality wise, Leia was different from Padme. Even if she wasn't it would anger Vader as Leia would be a reminder of what he lost when Padme died.
Yes, you can see it even in his eyes. Seeing Kenobi, he was angry and they became Sith in color. And when Anakin talked to Padme or Luke, his eyes were the usual color.
The light side was too powerful, so anakin came and put balance by turning dark. Then the dark got too powerful so he brought balance yet again by killing palp. It’s like a teeter totter, eventually hitting balancing point back and forth based off his choices.
What is the balance though? Luke is not dark and light in balance, he is goody good light side boy. The conclusion is all south are gone, all but a few Jedi are gone, and Luke goes off to start the order again. Their is a clear light side bias. Nobody in the Star Wars universe understands what “balance” even means.
@@LegDayLas Anakin restored the balance by combining both sides. There is also no division into light and dark in the force sides, but together. Love this video. i feel like obiwan had years to plan this out tho, he knew anakin and vader had a softspot for family and if anyone could show him the light it would be luke.
The series has re defined Obi Wan’s desire for Vader to be killed by Luke. Obi Wan learned that embracing love and attachments ( Luke and Leia) made a Jedi stronger. Hence he needed the love of a son to ‘kill’ Vader and resurrect Anakin.
That's because they died at different ages - Anakin young and Kenobi older. At that time, the fact that the ghosts of the force can take on any shape at will may also play a role. Luke also appeared as a young ghost of the force, for example, in front of his descendant, Cade Skywalker, whom he tried to return to the right path.
@@zephyr8072 Yoda, Qui-Gon, Kenobi remembered Anakin as a young man. As Anakin himself remembered himself to be. The Skywalker the Elder died on the death star of 45 and again became that 22 years old Jedi which he was before his "death" and the "birth" of the dark lord. This is Lucas's opinion when he replaced the ghosts from Sebastian Shaw to Hayden Christensen from the old canon to the new one.
If Anakin focused more on force powers than lightsaber, he would've killed Kenobi and then Sidious. Just a thought. His power level is bigger than even Tenebrae and that guy ate a fucking planet
Obi-Wan forgot why Anakin turned, he feared losing those he cared for. Losing his mother he embraced the Dark Side, fearing to lose Padme drove him to the Dark Side. His mother, his wife. He couldn't save either of them, but he could save his son, and his son cared for him. Luke was his last chance to not die a complete failure. Luke was a chance to do the right thing. Luke and all his losses were the key to destroying the Sith. His losses were due to his failings and 'the greatest teacher failure is'.
When a Jedi kills another living thing what matters most is what’s in his heart when he does. If he kills from hate or anger this may lead to the dark side. But if he kills out of love (as Vader did when he killed the emperor in defence of his son) or in defence of something greater than himself, then he is not aligning himself to the darkness. A Jedi’s reason for killing must always be larger than himself. This also makes it more difficult for a Sith to read a Jedi since emotions like love and self sacrifice are completely foreign to a Sith.
Obi Wan completely missed the key factor in why Luke knew Anakin _could_ be saved: Love. Vader was a being of pure hatred; Hatred for the bullies in the Jedi Temple, hatred for the Separatist droid armies, hatred for Slavery, hatred for the Tuskens that killed his mother, hatred for the council that refused to grant him the rank of Master, hatred for the way that the same council handled the trial that pushed his apprentice out of the Jedi Order, hatred for the desert that he was raised on, and ultimately hatred for how Palpatine stopped hiding how he twisted, manipulated, undermined and used Anakin for his own gains and openly threatened to replace him as his apprentice at every opportunity. But it was also Love that started him on the path to the Dark Side. His love for his Mother caused him to murder the Tuskens, his love for Padmé made him ignore the Jedi code and develop attachment which led to his secret marriage, and it was the same love for Padmé that Palpatine exploited to turn Anakin against the Jedi. Vader even told Luke the secret of how to save him “search your feelings, you know it to be true” Luke could feel that despite all the hatred in Vader, Vader couldn’t hate his own children. He loved them as he loved Padmé. It was love that made Vader save his son from Palpatine (“no one hurts my boy!”) and become Anakin again. Obi Wan didn’t see it because Obi Wan was convinced that Anakin couldn’t feel love anymore because of what they said to each other on Mustafar “You were my brother Anakin, I loved you” “I HaTe YoU!”
Killing in it of itself whether for defense or to stave off a threat isnt what would pull someone to the darkness, its killing out of fear and hate, with malice towards your enemy.
For the sake of conversation, and perhaps a great topic for a what if video: if Luke had killed Darth Vader, and was still a Jedi and servant of the Force. Do you think that Darth Sidious, Emperor of the Galaxy, culmination of Darth Banes rule of two, would ever just let him walk out of there? And we saw in ROTJ how well Luke did against Sidious. So if Vader is gone, that would probably leave Luke 20 seconds to live. Nobody ever seems to mention this. It’s just “he would have fulfilled his training and become a Jedi, once doing this.” According to Ben and Yoda. But oh yeah oops before you go don’t forget Darth Vaders own Master will vaporize you if you fail to join the Dark Side
My thoughts would be what the other Jedi friends of anakin Skywalker would feel about him being redeemed especially padma I presume she would be happy and feel vindicated that she was right their was still good in him.
@@j.robertsergertson4513 That she died of a broken heart was the conclusion of the medical droids. Sidious had adopted an apparently Sith ritual of To take the life out of her out her life to save Vader in his post-Mustafar state. Padme's heart stops when the dark lord is born. And in episode 9, Palych clearly demonstrates pulling the life out of Rey and Kylo Ren to restore your own strength. Having learned from Darth Plagueis similar manipulations.
In the sketches of Lucas's unfinished new trilogy, there was an interesting sketch of Anakin's ghost with a face that was the changed of both sides. In the Legacy comic, Anakin appeared as two in one. Just like in the series about Ahsoka.
this reminds me of another video where Obi-wan forgave Asajj Ventress much quicker that he forgave Anakin because Asajj wasn't taught the ways of the lightside, however Anakin did and therefore he had NO excuse for the war crimes he committed.
According to Qui-Gon's prophecy, Anakin was destined to become both a savior and a destroyer in order to bring the Galaxy to balance. The Jedi and the Sith interpreted the prophecy in different ways. Anakin did what he had to do, following the path of the force that created him to restore balance.
Obiwans greatest failure was always his lack of faith in Anakin. Had he kept faith in him before cutting his limbs off they could've talked and brought him back around.
As a kid, I always felt like Luke was extremely naive, and that the only reason Vader turned on the Emperor was because he ordered Luke to kill him. I thought Luke only cried out for Vader's help, because he had no other choice as the Emperor was killing him, not because he could really sense the good in him.
I wish that in the last movie the ghost of anakin was the one fighting palpatin, it would have be pretty epic and have sement the theories that he was the chosen one
What are we to make of Vader’s statement to Luke, that “Obi-Wan once thought like you did” after Luke tells Vader he senses the good in him? I understood that to mean that Obi Wan also believed he could be redeemed and Luke was sounding like him. Also, and I may need to review this, nowhere does Yoda or Obi Wan tell Luke he needs to kill Vader. Only that he needs to face him. I think Luke inferred that that meant he had to kill him. Maybe the test was only to face him and see if he could withstand the power of the Dark Side, if he could not give in to his fear and anger. Although to be honest my theory is challenged when Luke tells ghost Obi Wan that he can’t kill his father and Obi Wan’s reaction is disappointment(“then the emperor has already won.”)which does sound like he did want Luke to kill him.
Originally, at the end of ROTJ Palpatines Sith Force Ghost appears standing opposite the force ghosts of Obi Wan, Anakin and Yoda and gives them the finger, but George had second thoughts and cut that bit out!!
Anakin was the chosen was and brought balance to the force. Many people don't understand that the jedi order was corrupt as hell and not the good side. Qui-qon-gin confirmed this and that is why he and dooku all left the jedi order because it wasn't the old good order but a corrupt organisation only fighting or its own goals and not for the galaxy, using the force as a escape code. Anakin did both defeatd the Sith and the jedi order, destorying both bad organisations and making place for a new good one to rise. The did what Qui-gon said only not in the way most people thought. By both destorying the jedi and the sith he brought peace and balance to the force and galaxy
I think part of what people are not considering is the fact that sith are selfish, emotional, and passionate. Anakin coming out from behind Vader and relieving Obi-Wan of his guilt is something Anakin/Vader has to do for himself to continue down his dark path. As long as Obi-Wan harbors guilt and empathy for Anakin, he can never fully give himself over to the dark side, which is why Vader ultimately overthrew Palpatine in the end, because his son harbored those feelings for him. Ashoka harbored those feelings for him. The sith apprentice overthrowing the master is still a sith construct. It's more about Anakin's choice to save his son and forfeit the power he would normally gain from killing his master that cements his soul in the light. Anakin and Vader ultimately are the same person, even if Vader is a very different personality. Vader is Anakin's way of justifying his descent into darkness. I would argue this is why all Sith adopt the "Darth" personality. It allows the Sith Lord to psychologically distance themselves from the acts they perform as a Sith Lord. If Sith truly enjoyed the actions they commit then they'd never gain power, since power in the dark side comes from fear, pain, anger, and passion. The dark side is like a drug, you enjoy it while you're using it, but when it's over your existence is empty, which ultimately fuels one's return to the dark side.
Family is the answer, obi wan could not turn Vader back because he was one of the reasons in the first place. And obi wan has no family except the jedi order and Vader destroyed that. Anakin hadn't felt love after Padma and mother died. Plus Luke was his son . Strong and loyal the way he use to be as a jedi
Remember Anakin's line in episode 5 of Kenobi, "Mercy doesn't defeat an enemy"
I think this is on point. Twice before we saw someone anakin loved defeat him and challenge the dark side within him. That was Ashoka and obi wan. Both landed near fatal blows but Luke decided to show him unconditional mercy.
For real. It's why I think the prequels could have been so much more. Anakin and Luke both rejected the teachings of their masters for what they believed; but in polar opposite ways. Anakins fall could have been such a great antithesis to Luke's rise. If it had been handled better, it would have made Luke sticking to his principles and turning Anakin even more powerful

A moment later, Obi-Wan heard a familiar voice return from the darkness. "Obi-Wan? Master, I'm so sorry. So very, very -"
"Anakin, listen carefully," Obi-Wan interrupted. "You are in the netherworld of the Force, but if you ever wish to revisit corporeal space, then I still have one thing left to teach you. A way to become one with the Force. If you choose this path to immortality, then you must listen now, before your consciousness fades."
Obi-Wan sensed confusion and remorse in Anakin's psyche, then Anakin answered, "But Master . . . why me? "
"Because you ended the horror, Anakin," Obi-Wan said. "Because you fulfilled the prophecy. Because you were . . . and are . . . the Chosen One."

On multiple occasions vader addresses obi wan as “master”. It’s completely overlooked yet it proves that Anakin was alive somewhere

That’s why I love that Obi Wan and Ashoka could only break each half of Vader’s mask but only Luke could really take off the mask. I think Luke had a leg up being his son. Harnessing all the good he had and the parts of padme existed through him too. I think that soft spot was able to help Anakin overcome Vader in the final moments.
Obi-Wan never stopped loving his brother and him training Anakin in his last moments proved that.
Windu trying to kill palpatine is what cemented his change to the dark side. Palpatine trying to kill luke in an almost identical scene is what cemented His change back to the light.

Same how I thought of it
The balance of the force is when there are ZERO dark side users.
It’s crazy it’s not talked about a whole lot that Darth Sidious did with Luke & Vader exactly what he did with Anakin and Count Dooku.
Example: Both Palpatine and Mace Windu tell Anakin the exact same thing in Episode 3 at different times - "He's too dangerous to be left alive."
Essentially, the Jedi have become hypocrites.

Very often we hear about jedi, that fell for the dark side (for example, Anakin -> Darth Vader). But we rarely hear about Sith, that changed their view and joined the light side.
Can you make a video on that?

Obviously the dark side Is more powerful and liked
Well Vader did that
@@albumkosong yeah and also Darth Reven. But these are all trained Jedi, that fell for the dark side and came back. What about the ones, that were brought up and trained as sith, but found their way to the light side, without the jedi training.
@HeatSeeker624 "Among all his dark thoughts, I glimpsed one bright spot. One beautiful thing he held onto, even at the end. You."
I honestly cannot properly express how much I absolutely loved and enjoy these videos well done, my fellow wielder of the force
Obi Wan could’ve killed Vader…twice now? He must’ve believed Anakin had some shred of redemption right?
he didnt want to kill as both times at some he could see anakin until he have in the second time
It’s against the Jedi code to kill an unarmed opponent.
He thought he killed him in ep.3
I think the will of the force was testing Anakin with numerous hardships and he eventually passed
This video was so great to watch. Always wanted to know what obi wan thought after anakin slam dunked palpatine into the intergalactic basketball hoop
I don’t like how the Jedi (Obi-wan) and Sith (Sidious) were just using Luke to kill his father.
They never cared for what Luke wanted
That’s what Jedis do, they fight against the empire even if the empire is ur evil space dad nazi… You can’t really blame Obi one for that lol..
I always figured anakin became a force ghost because he was the chosen one
I need this to officially become canon and I'd love to see it with my own eyes.
Anakin's fall to the dark side was completely preventable had the Jedi teachings accommodated for his position. Or at the very least didn't have all these problematic elements to it
The root problem was their philosophy becoming dogmatic and entwined with galactic politics.
The death of Qui Gon meant that Palpatine stepped into that Fatherly figure role Anakin needed instead.

Really cool beginning to the video. Good small character introduction there.
The Force gave Anakin a serious mulligan.
Mace Windu: “OH HELL NO!!”
According to Jackson and Lucas, Mace Windu is alive. It remains a mystery how his voice got into episode 9 of Disney nonsense. I don't think Windu would be mad at a stupid kid who made a mistake back then. He said that Anakin would make the right choice one day.
I was giggling at the "shut up and listen we don't have much time." Part.
yall notice when anakin came back before he died he brought balace to the force like they had thought he would in the beginning 😮
I understand why Obi-Wan gave up on him because at the end of the day he was still a slave to the Jedi code.
But then that makes me second guess Obi-Wan when he says "you were my brother Anakin" in what context did Obi-Wan mean that?
Ah he was like family? Like his brother
he trained him taught everything new when anakin went down the dark path he hated the jedi because anakin felt like the jedi were betraying him and plus i hate to bring this up i know you dont read the jarry potter books but anakin wanted to learn more from the force and felt they were holding him back palpatine pulled his strings seduced him and go him on his side i see both anakin and obi wan like brothers even read the book thats no longer canon its written by aan dean foster its a prequel novel to episode 2 attack of the clones its a really good book am reading it and enjoy it more than newer canon but if you are into legends youll see how both anakin and obi wan are like brothers in that books yes anakin felt betreyed because he felt like the concil was not teaching him stuff about the force and they didnt want that to happen plus obi wan kenobi used the dark side of the force when he cut darth maul in half no joke either he did

Anakin: Obi-Wan? But how--
Obi-Wan: Anakin, shut up and listen, there's not much time.
Anakin: Even in death you're still so strict 😏
1:30 *This is why Obi-Wan Kenobi refers to him as simply, Darth, in the "New Hope".
Great editing piecing those clips together!!!
You know what! Thanks man! Thanks for taking the time to give us this information! If you ever think is all this research worth it! Yes my boy, yes it is! We appreciate it!
I don't think it was possible for Anakin to turn back to the light side unless Obi-wan was killed. Obi-wan's existence was a reminder of Anakin's past and all of the bitterness and anger that he felt serving the Jedi.
He would have none of that bitterness towards Luke.
I agree. I have a theory that Luke truely was the only one who could redeem Vader as Luke and his sister was all he had left of padme.
I cried at the end. darn that was moving
1:29 I think you meant to say obiwan. Haha I enjoy these little slip ups. Makes me feel less bad about my slip ups like this
The light side was too powerful, so anakin came and put balance by turning dark.
Although it remains unknown whether the theme will develop that Anakin is destined to take the place of Father from the planet Mortis in order to keep the world in balance by combining both light and darkness, which he has learned to control and switch between them.
It's always good to have a redeemer someone who's going to save your soul😊😊😊😊
This was a very interesting video. Love your content friend, great stuff.
Maybe the balance that was needed for the force also required the fall of the jedi counsel.
It goes to show that even you your self lose hope to save and redeem the one person you thought was truly gone. They managed to surprise you, as well as themselves that they've always been there and that it's never too late to forgive them for their wrongs, as well as forgiving yourself for giving up on them. Padme was right, there was still good in Anakin, and it was the love from his son that brought it out. Obi-Wan should really remember that Luke isn't just Anakin's son, he's also Padme's son that even in her last moments, Padme believed there's still goodness in Anakin.
Gonna need a part 3 on Qui Gon training Anakin
Anakin: I thought you'd be furious with me beyond my grave.
Obi Wan: I was never angry with you. I was just sad that you had lost your way, after Order 66. But now you've found your way back to the light, and brought ballance to the force, like Master Qui Gon said you would.
"I forgot that a pupil's best achievement is exceeding the master. I forgot that Palpatine's hold on Anakin was done in secret over a decade's time, and not rushed inside a first meeting. I was so saddened and shocked by the downfall of my friend, I forgot why it shocked me so in the first place. His own pupil could not reach Anakin, any more than his own master - but his son could and did. Now heed my hasty words, Anakin - because I shall no more forget you."
“Why does his ghost get to be in his 20s and I have to be a doddering old man? Little shit.” -Obi-Wan probably
I'm making what you said official canon.
@@kseniaboytseva4714 Anakin died in his 40s while resembling a bleached prune.
Obi wan for once said what he thought he'd never get the chance to say to Anakin
Even the smallest of light cannot be overcome by darkness.
What’s the background music used towards the end of the video?
"And this is why Vader refers to him as simply 'Darth'"
I think you meant Obi-Wan, there, bud.
But oh yeah oops before you go don’t forget Darth Vaders own Master will vaporize you if you fail to join the Dark Side
such forgiveness is astounding, guess he's called the perfect jedi for a reason
there was a passage in the return of the Jedi novel of the conversation between Anakin and Obi-Wan
My thoughts would be what the other Jedi friends of anakin Skywalker would feel about him being redeemed especially padma I presume she would be happy and feel vindicated that she was right their was still good in him.
That's why she died of a broken heart (lost the will to live) because she still had hope he was still good?
@@j.robertsergertson4513 That she died of a broken heart was the conclusion of the medical droids. Sidious had adopted an apparently Sith ritual of To take the life out of her out her life to save Vader in his post-Mustafar state. Padme's heart stops when the dark lord is born. And in episode 9, Palych clearly demonstrates pulling the life out of Rey and Kylo Ren to restore your own strength. Having learned from Darth Plagueis similar manipulations.
Probably something like "Good Anakin, Good"
Vader and Anakin are two completely different people. That's why Obi could save him.
I think it would’ve been cool if Anakin’s force ghost would come back sometimes as Anakin but also as Vader
Your wish was granted, congrats!

What? She was a jedi before she turned to count dooku. She was taught the ways of the light...
According to Qui-Gon's prophecy, Anakin was destined to become both a savior and a destroyer in order to bring the Galaxy to balance. The Jedi and the Sith interpreted the prophecy in different ways. Anakin did what he had to do, following the path of the force that created him to restore balance.
Obi Wan: “You have done well 😈”
Obiwans greatest failure was always his lack of faith in Anakin.
No
I wish that in the last movie the ghost of anakin was the one fighting palpatin, it would have be pretty epic and have sement the theories that he was the chosen one
Video begins at 6:14
I wonder what Obi Wan thought when Palpatine returned in the Rise of Skywalker
He did it in legends too, by going into a cloned body.
Somehow palpatine returned
“bruh..” -Obi-Wan
Disney "Canon" is shit. A true Star Wars fan doesn't recognize Disney's "woke" garbage.
Nothing that trilogy was crap and no one cares.
That's some kind of crash course.
