    Thank you for the recipe. I used to live in Fiji and we made these vakalolo all the time. The only variation _ we used a little ground root ginger or sometimes ground cardamom for flavor. This can be pretty bland without it.

      @ezindelicious  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great idea to add ginger or cardamom. Cheers!!

    First congrats on the dish. I'm Fijian so my apologies for a little correction - that is called tavioka solo or tavioka yaca or just tapioca or cassava cake. A variation on that and makes it even delish is mixing in equal parts grated ripe banana. Another variation is baking the same in a pan ( like a cake ) and when done, cover the top with a thin or thick layer of whipped (stiff ) condensed milk & lemon.
    ...
    Now vakalolo means "in coconut cream". It's a desert where the pounded cooked cassava or breadfruit or taro is cut or shaped into bite size pieces and generously coated with coconut cream caramel - which is done by slowly melting brown sugar ( even white ) so it does not burn and once all melted and looking golden brown you add thick coconut cream then cook this for some time til it's reduced to a nice syrupy consistency.
    Apologies again for the correction.

      Hi there Mteo....no need to apologise whatsoever!! This is fantastic information and thankyou so much for sharing it with us here. I did struggle with trying to clarify the correct name, so my apologies for getting it wrong. I'm looking forward to heading over to Fiji next year to visit friends and hangout for a while where I use to live up Labasa way.

      @@ezindelicious oooh thank you for da luv vibes & positivity. Labasa huh. I'm from a village up the road from Savusavu via the hibiscus highway. Though I live in California now. I have a link below to a vakalolo making from grated then pounded cassava. Can do same with taro or breadfruit. Or - with your same recipe in your video but mix your cassava with equal part mashed ripe bananas and still steam it or bake and don't even have to pound it when it's cooked but just cut it up in bite pieces. Then make the caramel coconut sauce/syrup as shown in the link below. And coat your cassava/banana bites with the syrup. Good room temp, better even when chilled !
      Cheers!

    Can see you've been taught very well on making tavioka yaca/cassava cake and I don't blame you on the wrong food name as pointed out in a previous comment.
    Still edible nonetheless with your unique take on Fijian dessert with strong memories of "Labraska" (Fijian nickname for Labasa 😅).
