Nice overview. Some mixed feelings about this car. Watched a lot of video...SavageGeese was properly in depth and tracked with forum chatter on the CX-90. Too big to be small and too small to be big. A lot of continuing OEM updates to drivetrain parameters to smooth things out (lots of clutches, electrics, stop/start, torque vectoring and what nots maybe not coordinating perfectly yet). Consensus is that this thing really needed adaptive dampers to both handle well, which it does in class leading fashion, and to achieve squishy family hauler mode too. I have a '24 CX-5 Turbo in my driveway cuz I needed a commuter. The CX-5 is mature and near perfect. I think the CX-90 will get there.
Adaptive dampers would move the price point but the ride is pretty stiff on 21" wheels. The 19s are better. I read somewhere that the suspension joints need time to break in and then the ride softens. I dunno.
I bought the 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo premium plus AWD (zircon sand + terracotta interior leather). Just under $44K...pretty impressed with it so far. Years ago we had a couple of Mazda 3's and a CX7. This new one is pretty rewarding to drive...a lot of bang for ya buck. The CX-90 is a bus.
Well, I did 4000 miles (CA, NV, AR) in it CX-50 SkyActiveG Turbo (Rental Car) and it felt a bit slow (compared to Ford Edge AWD 2.0T engine). But I can't say a bad word on anything else. Almost a perfect SUV / Cross-Over car.
It’s a Mazda, so handling is going to be a priority. The infotainment system will suck, but that’s not why you buy from Brand M. If it’s anything like my current two street cars, my race car, and previous Mazda street cars, it’s going to be stone reliable as well. I’m fairly brand agnostic (in fact, I work for a competitor) but whenever I’m trying to answer the “What car do I need to do what job” question, the answer seems to be Mazda.
Actually love the infotainment controls in my CX5. Not having a touch screen is a plus in my book because I don't have to clean off ugly fingerprints. Also hate trying to poke a touch screen while moving.
Bought the PHEV version, drove for 7,700 miles, sold at a loss. My bad. Hated the firm ride and lower space compared with my previous Highlander. 4Runner now, and much happier, minus the mpg. Would not recommend.

does look nice, quite a few vehicle manufacturers have gone back to straight six configuration, and yes rear chain drive does seem to be getting the norm, still better than timing belt running in oil.
I just had one of these as a rental for a work trip. I was pretty impressed. The shifter is strange going to Park, but…idiots tip, if you open the door to get out and it’s still in reverse instead of park, it’ll automatically set the e-brake for you. 😂
Mazda is easily the most slept on brand in the US. Their cars are awesome, reliable, CHEAP, and look great. The new turbo models have a shit ton of torque. They’re just great cars punching above their weight.
A lot of useful information that other reviews don't mention. The drive system overview is particularly fascinating. We're in the process of purchasing a CX90 Turbo S Premium model and the more we know, the more confident we feel in our choice.
I actually really like this thing. Love your Millenia reference, I had a Millenia S as a rental car for a week during a business trip and absolutely fell in love with it.
That was weird seeing that delay when you buried your foot in the this "Turbo S"'s a$$. As soon as you had mentioned earlier in the introduction that it was a hybrid, I assumed fantastic off the starting line acceleration because the electrical assist included a cheater spin up of the turbo accompanied by extra energy dump assist to the 4 corners forr crisp acceleration. As always, I love the pace of your presentation. You pack a lot of relevant info into each review to keep us interested in what you will reveal next.
Straight six, *turbo*, rear wheel biased drivetrain... Got my eye on this one. Dont need/want an suv, but I am pretty interested to see where else Mazda uses this drivetrain. Great job Mazda :)
I am in love with this car! I'm so happy they made a RWD i6! Now if they could just put it in a Mazda6... Ordered one for my wife back in December at ~$65k. It got delivered last week, and they gave it to us for the new lower pricetag of ~$60k. Got it with almost all the options including a roof rack, tow hitch with factory trailer brake controller, and digital rearview mirror.
I like some of the colors Mazda has. That color is nice, as is the metallic red and metallic blue I have seen on some Mazdas. I think they have a nice silver too.
Mazda's paint colors are awesome. I have a silver CX-30 and it just a beautify shade. The metallic red is one of the best red shades I have ever seen on a vehicle.
won't tell you how many cubic feet of cargo a vehicle will hold because we can look it up on Google...but will tell you the engine family, bore and stroke measurements of that engine, brake rotor size in millimeters and metric thickness measurements of the the anti-roll bars. Great channel.
I had the same experience at 4:18 on my car when I did some mods and had to open up the front grille. The Radiator and condenser stack has a gap in-between and it was filled with tons of dead leaves, baseball card and a cigarette butt. As a result, I bought some 6mm diamond shape screen and installed it on the grille. Today's car manufacturer uses large size opening on grille because the turbo charged engine needs to stay fuel efficient even at the worst weather condition. But that defeats the purpose of the grille with such large openings.
I like to think that I’ve seen almost every Mazda CX-90 review on YT and thought I couldn’t learn any thing new but wow, I am impressed. Learned so many technical aspects from underneath the car and other technical aspects that other reviewers did not mention.
I cannot wait to see that straight 6 in the Mazda 6. If only Mazda would make a shooting brake variant (I expect to be in the minority with this opinion)
CX-5 owner here : the car doesn’t produce an electronic enhanced engine sound. Although my CX-5 is equipped with a [straight] 4-cylinder non-turbo engine, I can still recognize that high-pitch twirl within the CX-90’s sound. This is produced by the fuel pump. Part of Skyactiv Tech has to do with the injection of the fuel through highly pressured sprays. Hence the disturbingly stale sound of a high revs turbo…
I cannot WAIT for these to become heavily depreciated! I've bought two Mazda 6's now, both 5 years old when I bought them (a 2016 in '21, and a 2018 in '23) and they were fantastic! I'll definitely be in the market for a nice AWD Premium SUV in the future and i'm a-ok with sticking to Mazda for life lol.
Just remember this car is over engineered. You have to pull the engine out to replace any of the components. Its a nightmare to work on and the timing chain in rear is overly complicated and would take a long time to replace. Its even worse then how overly engineered the Germans make their cars. This is one car that I would not want out of warranty.
@@HiPlains1 Apart from the timing chain, things aren't too difficult to service. I've seen a few come through at my job, and so long as you take the cowl off, you have a lot more access to the engine. Of course the hybrid system is tough, but that's the case with every hybrid system really. In comparison to what BMW and Mercedes are putting out now, these things look (on the surface) like a walk in the park for most maintenance, and even some engine accessories.
Nice looking car and I like the engine. It seems fairly quick and, it’s not a lightweight. Too rich for my blood though. I live in the Great White North so add approximately 20% to the bill on pricing because of our dollar value difference. I love your reports. Great job.👍👍🇨🇦

My wife and I looked at the Mazda CX-90, loved it, BUT it's too small for my family of 6. It's basically a sedan with a third row. The Grand Highlander, on the other hand, feels so much better, so much more room. It's not like our Honda Odyssey, obviously, but it'll work for our family.
Just moved from my Mazda 6 2.5 Liter Turbo into the new 2024 Mazda CX-90 3.3 Liter Inline 6 Turbo, Artisan Red like the one featured here. Have only had it for a couple of days and love it so far. I did test drive the Hybrid model and hated it. That version is equipped with just a 4 cylinder on the crossover and no GO power. In "EV" mode a little more torque but felt odd. Not a fan of the hybrid.
Thanks for another great review. What a nice looking SUV. Mazda definitely puts thought into their vehicles. I bought a 2020 CX-5 with the enhanced intake option 😉. It's been a joy to drive for the last three years. Pretty tempting to look at the '24s.
@@ScrubRadiusyou missed the point.. it’s irrational to stress over a hypothetical maintenance point that requires the same level of physical labor as something else far more likely to need replacement in the same location that ALL vehicles eventually need.

Imagine one with that engine.....
Love all the additional drive / power train talk in your review Sarah!
Japanese cars have the steering wheel on the correct side, that's why the battery pack is under the "passenger" side
I saw one of these in the wild, they are quite stunning
I like some of the colors Mazda has. That color is nice, as is the metallic red and metallic blue I have seen on some Mazdas. I think they have a nice silver too.
Mazda's paint colors are awesome. I have a silver CX-30 and it just a beautify shade. The metallic red is one of the best red shades I have ever seen on a vehicle.
@@leonb2637Neighbor has one in that red and it just draws your eyes to it. Gorgeous. 👍
won't tell you how many cubic feet of cargo a vehicle will hold because we can look it up on Google...but will tell you the engine family, bore and stroke measurements of that engine, brake rotor size in millimeters and metric thickness measurements of the the anti-roll bars.
Car nerds FAVORITE youtube reviewer!!!
Some of the luxury brands should be getting a little nervous as Mazda is doing an awesome job blurring the lines.
3.3 turbo is not bad seems mazda is doing all the right things to gain consumers interests
Is the rating out of 10? It is the first time I watch your video and you did a great job... 👍
Hello, I Am of the Whirled. Thank You for the Acknowledgement. Strength! GODspeed!
I like to think that I’ve seen almost every Mazda CX-90 review on YT and thought I couldn’t learn any thing new but wow, I am impressed. Learned so many technical aspects from underneath the car and other technical aspects that other reviewers did not mention.
Love the CX-90. Definitely best in class. And Sarah is 🔥
Great graphics for this video, @Sarah -n- Tuned. You keep pushing the envelope. Nicely done!
I cannot wait to see that straight 6 in the Mazda 6. If only Mazda would make a shooting brake variant (I expect to be in the minority with this opinion)
Very impressive treatment of back seat(s) space and navigation. Nice.
I just test drove one of these the Bose system in the premium is outstanding crystal clear
Mazda is and always has been a solid vehicle. They don’t cheap out
CX 90 interesting car 😊
My wife has had a few cx5s and they have been everything you’d ever want in a mini Ute.
That hand with that red finger is cool 😂😂
I like the look and inline 6.
I wonder what these'll be going for. Because they are nice vehicles.
Thank you Sarah for this review.
I would also like to see exhaust pipes in the rear bumper.
Re: your wishbone explanation: Steel is "stiffer" than aluminum. The modulus of steel is ~29Mpsi vs Aluminum is 10 Mpsi.
@@HiPlains1 Get the gas only version. Cheaper and easier to work on.
@@HiPlains1i think timing chain will last the life of the car with proper maintenance. Unlike the timing belt that is a maintenance item
Nice looking car and I like the engine. It seems fairly quick and, it’s not a lightweight. Too rich for my blood though. I live in the Great White North so add approximately 20% to the bill on pricing because of our dollar value difference. I love your reports. Great job.👍👍🇨🇦
That was an incredible climb for those tires 😯
My first car was a Mazda Protege! I liked that car!
I hope you can test the CX-70 when it comes out this spring.
Happy Friday Sarah!!!
Was watching Matt's Offroad Recovery, and got the notification, " Hold on Matt, gotta switch channels for a bit!"🤣
You ever get nails in the tires out there? Since it's kind of a dumping ground, bonfire, homeless with RVs camping area.
Stay excellent!!!😎
I wish they would drop the turbo 6 without hybrid into the cx-5/50, that would be dope sauce
I get the conflict. Seems like an overall great car, but with a few irritants. Great review.
Yep!
Any vehicle will have some compromises to meet price points or to be better in others most buyers would be more concerned with.
Great review. One correction though: steel is 2.5 times more rigid (call it stiffer, stronger, etc.) vs aluminnium.
Massive kudos for the off road test, pretty surprised at how well it did
Informational review, especially to the suspension system
Thanks for another great review. What a nice looking SUV. Mazda definitely puts thought into their vehicles. I bought a 2020 CX-5 with the enhanced intake option 😉. It's been a joy to drive for the last three years. Pretty tempting to look at the '24s.
Great way to qualify rear timing chain.Nice video Sarah.
Except it ain’t the chain that will need work. It’s the guides. Disappointed to see Mazda do something as stupid as the Germans do.
@@ScrubRadiusyou missed the point.. it’s irrational to stress over a hypothetical maintenance point that requires the same level of physical labor as something else far more likely to need replacement in the same location that ALL vehicles eventually need.
The images on the dashboard buttons are universal symbols. The one that shows the recirculation symbol is not an Easter egg, just the same symbol they use in all cars. Great review, btw.
