I have a couple old internationals. One with a DT466 and one with a DT530 both straight mechanical. They are not the fastest nor the most powerful, but they are certainly reliable. There’s a reason it’s called “The Legend”.
I use to work for the State of Ca., for Caltrans. We got 2 new one`s at the end of 81. Both Plow/Sander trucks, and the Bitch tank for doing Asphalt patch work. Both 466 and auto trans. had them for 15 years then go new replacements. Last one I drove for 10 years was a 95 with a 5 spd/ 2 spd rear end. Plow/Sander also. That was the last year that was all mechanical. The other crew got a 96 and was computer controlled. never did like that one. When I retired it rolled over to 150K miles. kept it waxed, even had carpet in it, and kept the tires Armor alled and the Mud Flaps. Think it was a 1900 series. Wish i could have taken it with me when I retired. Those 466 engines hardly ever gave us any problems. The two 81`s with the auto trans, were dogs pulling a load up a windy mt. road. On a long steep pull in 2nd gear, the trans would get up to the red zone on the Gauge, then had to slow way down and drop it into 1st, Hated those dang things. Withe 5-spd manual, never a problem and would tow faster. The reason for the Dog House, the engine sits back into the Fire Wall.
Been watching reruns. I know you got a life besides youtube plus it's more like Alaska than Hawaii there this time of year..but we always look forward to a fresh Nock Ranch sooooo... bundle up Ralphie lol. Hope all is well.
Those old S-Series are badass trucks! I have 2 S-series buses, and they have the DTA360, which was just as awesome of an engine as your 466! If you take care of them, they'll treat you well!!
@@NockRanch provided you have the line setting ticket to that truck, I have the whole parts manual for the S1600-S1900 trucks/buses from 1979-89, so if ya need parts help, hit me up.
What transmission does it have? I'm looking for a DT466 with a 5 or 10 speed to put in a school bus (if it doesn't have already) for some road trips. So many busses have automatics in them... I do not like automatics!
I just bought a 1981 with a dt466 and when you said it’s not a highway truck I don’t think mine is either lol mine will run 50mph but in 5th hi it’s very wound out in rpm almost like there’s another gear but I haven’t found the gear

Gorgeous International S-Series Dump Truck I'm wondering how come this has a huge Doghouse in the middle for the DT466
Thank you! I couldn't tell ya. This is the only one I've driven. We'll be doing more on this truck soon!

How many tons do you haul at a time
She can dump 8 ton comfortably. I've hauled 10 before, but had to scrape some out with an excavator before it would go
