    I drove an old International 1900 for 10 years of heavy hard work and a lot of miles. That 466 never let me down started up every time it has to be one of the best truck engines ever made 👍

    That coolant looks like a green and red mix. That is what I just flushed out of the ambulance.. Turn the handle on the embrace clockwise to tighten it up. Hard to not love that dump truck. It has all the right pieces of the puzzle to be a good reliable truck for a long time.

      Yeah it's getting flushed for sure. The handle was all the way tight unfortunately so hopefully there is an adjustment on the other end or I'll have to check the shoes.

    Man that is awesome to hear that the international did well on its first job. Man when I started driving when I graduated from high school that was the first job I was doing. I used to haul gravel to construction sites. I was born and raised around trucks. I was driving a tractor-trailer at the age of 12. Awesome video man you take it easy and have a good weekend.

    Me and my Dad just bought a 1986 S1954 or a F1954 when trying to get parts for it, but we gave $6,000 for it and it says it has 57,000 miles on it, it was a west Virginia State hwy department salt and plow truck, the cab is rusted out bad but the frame and dump box looks like it will last a few years but we drove it over 200 miles back to Kentucky it's a 5 speed with air brakes none of the dash lights worked until i got it hot and the water over flowed because I couldn't see the gauges at 10 in the night but the water pump was leaking so bad that we figured that we put over 60 gallons of water in it to get it to the house.but its a strong running truck slow but strong.

    Just found the vid, so I am late to the party. I have an 87 s1700 dump with the DT360 in it. You may have found out by now, but those beads rattling around in the coolant filter are sacrificial chemicals to help your cylinder walls from cavitating. Essentially they protect the pitting & erosion of the block, they are good to be in there!!!

    When I was a fire fighter we had a 4x4 brush rig that had the same style cab. They where tanks. Auto tranys where the only thing that sucked on those. Would only go 50 down hill but would carry 500gal of water and 4 to 6 crew. Had jump seats on the back of the fire body fun truck. I wanted to get one and take the box off and make a 4x4 dump or flat bed

    Friend, I'm not trying be be rude, but you may want to do a volume check on that box... By eye those are about 8 yard loads not 10's.. I am willing to admit to being off if the camera is wonkey, but that box looks to be a 7'x10'x3' which at water level comes out to 7.7yds. By the time you shovel that flat I bet you'd find it was about water level, maybe just over.. Are my eye measurements off?
    Nice truck though! I'm watching because I just picked up a 1724 last week for the whopping price of "Please come get it out of my yard" Mine needs some fixing here and there, and the poor little 345 gasser will be an over worked little pig, but for free, I can put a few coins in it to make something of it.

    I was surprised it has Juice Brakes.
    We got 2 new trucks in the end of 81, both Plow/Sander, and the Bitch tank for doing Asphalt work. Both Auto Trans, DT466. Either 1800 or 1800, don`t remember. had them almost 15 years. last truck we had I drove mostly was a 95 DT 466, 5-spd with 2 spd air shift. It was also a Plow Sander with Bitch tank. All 3 of these trucks had Air Brakes.
    Had 150K miles on when I retired. It was all mechanical.
    It was the last year before they put the computer on them. Other crew got a 96 with the computer control etc... didn`t like it at all.
    The 466 in the 95 never gave us any problems. I think it got 7 MPG being a Diesel.

    As long as you’ve got a pull-out cable or some type of device hooked up to the hoist pump you’re fine hopping out watching it dump, that trucks short and low enough as long as you’re on level ground it’s not going to upset even if the load sticks.

  • @MinniMoR
    @MinniMoR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I haven't seen anyone mention this so I guess I will. The little beads in the coolant filter are the way to get a special compound into the coolant called SCA. Like I saw someone mention those engines have cavitation issues and the SCA in the coolant prevents that from happening. and the way the way international did it was they had those filters with the additive in them already. So normally you want to change your coolant when you change your filter as well so you put in standard coolant then the filter adds the SCA. You can get coolant with that in it already but in the case of this truck its in the filter. So what you did just changing the filter shouldn't hurt but ideally you'd change the coolant too. So if you do go back and do that I'd suggest changing the filter again to be sure the additive gets in the new coolant.

    • @NOT_FOR_HIRE
      @NOT_FOR_HIRE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for clearing that up. I'm going to flush the system and change the filter. If I wasn't in a hurry I would have done that in the first place. I will get some additive also. I appreciate the information! Thanks for watching!

      Depends on axle gearing and whether or not the 2 speed works... the one this video is stated to be non-operational

    First gear is so low you really don’t need a two speed rear although there definitely fun to drive and when you need a lower gear just push down on the button and hit the gas and your in a lower gear where a five speed straight transmission you have to downshift.

    • @jd450lh
      @jd450lh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love a two-speed, too bad they don't put them on trucks nowadays. Dumpy is definitely a good find and with a little more work, she'll run better than a new one!

  • @johnwilliams4545
    @johnwilliams4545 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe look at finding a nine or ten speed Road Ranger gearbox then you don't need the two speed diff.

    • @NOT_FOR_HIRE
      @NOT_FOR_HIRE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have commercial insurance on everything it's actually cheaper. I think it only 800 a year for that truck. I have alot of trucks though so it's cheaper per vehicle.

      @@NOT_FOR_HIRE Thanks for the info. I would have guessed personal use would be much cheaper. I would like to buy a dump but the prices of beat into the ground one tons and 450s are ridiculous. Maybe stepping up to a bigger truck like yours is the way to go. I just dont know if my tractor bucket could reach high enough to load it.

    Not for hire,,, glad to see your dump trucks running fine....I couldn’t get a look at the license plate... but if you’re running farm PLATE you’re all right in the state with no US DOT numbers.......if you’re running commercial you need a name on the door and US DOT numbers over 10,000 pounds.....you also need a medical card,,, PS DOT NUMBERS NEED TO BEEN SEEN FROM 50 FEET AWAY , and if you’re wearing glasses prescription glasses two pairs in the truck at all times... ONE PAIR on your face,,,, and one as a spare!!!!!!!!!!! FINES FROM THE DOT STATE OF CONN COPS......That go along with that,,,,, you won’t have lunch moneyTILL fall..If you get stop BY THE DMV COP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! keep up the great work....my next big dumps be an international,,,,,, you and I’ll have to talk face-to-face someday after this corona BS is done junkman do

      @@NOT_FOR_HIRE It is not up for debate, that is a 5 yard truck. Overloaded it cannot hold more than 7 or 8, and thats with boards on top and dirt falling off the sides, front, and back.
