As soon as I saw this video get posted I was super excited! I have been wanting to do this for a very long time but always wished there was a video explaining some of the big steps. I'm so happy that someone like you who is extremely great at showing a huge project broken down is taking this on and showing us how it's done. I know you'll do a great job! Thank you and enjoy!
Finally a series video with better details. You guys don’t have to be afraid of making series for bigger builds. You won’t loose a view from me that’s for sure anyway! Specially for something as cool as R2!
Really digging all the different videos and projects! Side note for ABS Plastics: In our shop we work with it quite a bit and the type we have melts with Acetone and dries fairly quickly. We use it to 'glue' multiple layers together, smooth out edges after rounding them, or removing scratches from the plastic. Just something you might like to experiment with and possibly make something easier in the future! :) Looking forward to seeing the finished product on this R2!
i went to New York for a school trip in grade 9, and we went to FAO Schwartz. in their massive Lego department, they had a life-size R2-D2 made of Lego, and it was incredible. it looked freaking amazing to see in real life, so i'm jealous and excited to see your version come together, Bob
Great start to a bucket list build for many of us makers. Have you decided on the special effects you are going to add? A light saber launcher would be the coolest.
Your work is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for the next video showing your progress with R2 D2. Would you be willing to do a follow up video after you have had time to use him and what you would have done differently if anything? Thanks so much for sharing this.
This is cool, and i think multipart projects are a good thing for you. I remember in a previous video you were frustrated with the idea of how to do bigger projects on youtube. So far this one is looking like it'll be split up nicely.
HE SO CUTE, I love R2-D2 as well, I remember watching SW as a kid but all I could remember was R2 and C3PO not till last year I finally got the films on DVD after watching the new films at everything started coming back to me,
Awesome build. Cannot wait for the next part to be released. Finally get to see the process after hearing about this on past episodes of the Making It Podcast. Love the R2-D2 sound effects.
OMG, I've been waiting for u to upload this! I'm building the Deagostini 1/2 scale R2, but now I can build the full scale version vicariously thru u. Beautiful work, Bob. 👍
Oh boy oh boy! I found your channel through others because I'm making a Mandalorian, like Boba Fett. I'm quickly become a maker fan and low key maker myself. I do want to get to a point where I can make an R2 like you. I'm so excited to watch this progress!
Have been wanting to build a Chopper (C1-10P). Was thinking about using styrene for the body so it helped me understand process a little better. Appreciative and jealous.
Whoa, this is impressive! Really enjoyed watching this, as always. Some ideas for your next Star Wars projects: true (1:1) scale Slave One, Millennium Falcon, Star Destroyer, Super Star Destroyer and, of course, Death Stars I and II.
Hi Bob. It seems that you have a lot of patience and perseverance to make this R2D2, but if you have been dreaming about it for so long, then you just do it. I admire how cleanly you finish all the pieces and assemble everything with the necessary finesse. The alluminium pieces complete the whole. Congratulations on your way of finishing, I love that and that makes your video a quality video. I'm looking forward to the second part in which you finish R2D2. These were 10 minutes of pure relaxation and entertainment for me. P.S. : At 5:40 I notice on your tshirt that you have good taste for music too. Greetings and until the next video!
I made my own mini plastic R2 at Disneyland in CA last year. It was fun & I want to do it again since it was fun. And I honestly though you were make Star Wars Christmas ornaments with your family involved in that project.
You need to make it a home assistant so you can say “R2 turn on the lights” something like that would be sick
that woud be amazing!!!
Yeah
C3PO cutting parts for R2! Love it :)

This brought back to your channel after a long time of not watching.
Great start to a bucket list build for many of us makers. Have you decided on the special effects you are going to add? A light saber launcher would be the coolest.
Very cool Bob. Looks like a mountain of work going into it, even buying bits and pieces for the build.
Wow, those aluminum skins and parts are awesome! Nice work - great project.
Awesome!! Coming together nicely Bob! 👍🏼

You finally did it. It only took two years. I guess the list really was that long 🙂
Awesome build. Cannot wait for the next part to be released. Finally get to see the process after hearing about this on past episodes of the Making It Podcast. Love the R2-D2 sound effects.
Here 10 minutes after upload and I've been following this on your Instagram stories. Love it!
One of the best model kits! Great work man!
I've started my own R2, full size, only I'm 3d printing mine. I've started on the Dome. Very cool to see other styles/ways to build R2.

This video.... 11K better than last Disney´s Star Wars movie. I have spoken.
I'm building my own by hand (with styren and a cutter), i'm a bit jealous of all your machinery :)
Welcome to the club !
This is looking so amazing! And it's all great, but the music during the outtakes is so perfect! I'm looking forward to the rest of this series!

When going for fusing together stuff like styrene I tend to use weld on 4
Yeeees I've needed a video like this I need to try and follow along with u
Awesome Bob! I going to love watching this come together. I want to get back on my BB-8 as soon as I'm done building out the new SPark space.
Whoa, this is impressive! Really enjoyed watching this, as always. Some ideas for your next Star Wars projects: true (1:1) scale Slave One, Millennium Falcon, Star Destroyer, Super Star Destroyer and, of course, Death Stars I and II.

I love this, Bob! Can’t wait to see how this adventure plays out!
Dude, my friend and I were totally looking for this droid. FIRST!
So excited you've started this Bob!
I've always wanted to have R2-D2
James Bruton makes some SW droids. One of the best youtube channels for that type of project.
He does amazing work.
@@Iliketomakestuff but I cant wait to see your metal version
I loved the music used in older videos. It made the building sequences so much more calm. The heavy rock music just feels out of place
Amazing. It seems that the force is stronger in you, than I had foreseen :)
Awesome progress Bob! 👍🏻👊🏻
This is awesome, even though I can't make this, it just shows me how talented people are. Good work man!
This is so freaking cool!
You should do a collaboration with Adam Savage on weathering R2 when he is done.
You should do a series of building an Iron Man electronic helmet, or a daft punk helmet, that would be sick!
Cant wait for the next part of this.great video.Have a very merry christmas...
I was hoping this was an old video so I could binge watch the build. :( So cool though I xant wait for this
Great Job Bob! May the force be with you!
