For the amount of joy you obviously receive from getting these coins I’d certainly say you did not overpay for them. I really like the board idea for your date runs. They look great.
Congrats on getting the 1956 farthing. Those Victorian farthings are in good nick. I've a rather worn 1896 crown, which i use as a lucky piece and carry with me always, so kerping the George III crown makes a lit of sense to me
Lovely coins, if only they could speak, I bet they'd have some stories about the generations of people who have handled them! From the mid Victorian bank clerk, through the late Victorian Lady who almost got killed by Jack the Ripper, then the man standing at Queen Victoria's funeral procession, then the young boy watching Edward VII's Coronation, followed by the young soldier cowering in the trenches of the Somme in the Great War, then the Suffragette being carried away by the Police, then on the purse of a Flapper in the roaring Twenties, then in the pocket of the chap driving his new fangled automobile in the 1930s, then in the top pocket of the WW2 soldier storming the beach at Normandy, then in the purse of a young Mother at Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation in 1952...finally being used by my Mum to pay for part of the Bus fare, when she brought me home from the hospital where I was born in March 1959.
I love collecting old coins, one of my best coins is a farthing from 1853 that I metal detected, it has all of its details with very very little wear with no corrosion nor patina on it, it has had a life but only a short one bc of the coin having all of the details on it, it even is in its original bronze colour, so that day I found that coin rlly made my day.
The 1956 Farthing is interesting, the last ever farthing after many decades and by far the rarest date of the four farthings produced under the reign of QEII, I think it would also be good to obtain a 1953 if you have not already.
Good price for those old coppers imo. If you soak them for a few days & give them a gentle sponging, probably all that light verdigris & much of the grime will come off. Obviously you don't want to clean them per se, but washing them (water + sponge only) makes sense when they are that dirty imo. I bought myself a (worn) 1821 shilling yesterday ... check out that beautiful single-year design!
