  • I am returning to Mazama Ridge at Mount Rainier National Park. This has become an annual trip for me - as this is my third year going here in the winter to photograph. For this trip, I departed Paradise with a mix of clouds and sun but managed a significant change in the weather later in the day with heavy snow, wind and cold temperatures (18F / -8C). While I was forced to shelter in the tent during the afternoon and evening, I was able to get out and take some photos in the morning. The winter atmosphere always makes for an interesting subject, and I was able to come away with some good shots.
I took the pulk along again this year. Pulling it is a challenge, but it affords me the storage to bring additional photography gear and a larger tent. This is, in my opinion, still an overall better choice than scaling down to only a backpack - at least for this type of shorter trip.
The Sony gear performed well in the cold temperatures and snow conditions. No issues.

And there was a lovely Full Moon behind you. 🤷‍ This is not the same PULK that you made in your garage? Lovely scenery, I am especially impressed with the long distance shot of you snowshoeing in up the mountain - that's a long way to walk to place a camera unless you have a drone. Subbed by the way and Merry Christmas.

Very nice Tim. The next to las image in the video was really nice. The subtle colors were very calming.

Great video and workout. I have done daytime snowshoe up to Mazama Ridge and back down with just a light daypack (A6300 and one lens), but pulling that pulk up something that steep is on another level. Video work was great as well. The video uphill where you are breaking trail must of took a pretty big effort. I was trying to figure out how you positioned the camera without making snow tracks.

Tim, do you ever have problems with your camera batteries in the cold? Do you carry spares, or do you use something to recharge them in the back country?
