This is it. Ive been looking for a painting method for my blood angels. Ive seen some amazing modles... but they all had something that just lacked for me. This technique, i can go as simple or all out balls to the wall as i choose and they will all look like they fit. I love it. Thank you for this
Awesome work mate! This is actually very similar to how I paint my marines, nice to see someone use this method, super quick with incredible result. I feel like this should be presented as an option to beginner to moderate painters more often.
really love this tutorial!! I do not have an airbrush, do you think it's possible to achieve a similar look without one? I'd also love to hear how you created the base here, it looks absolutely fantastic! thanks!!
thank you. It is definitely possible... it just takes longer. I always work from dark to light. Dilute the paint and work with glazes. In the next video I'll show how I make the bases... very simple and effective :)
I really love the result, it looks exactly like I'd want my BA. I going to try your method soon I hope :) Do you reckon it's doable without an airbrush beside the initial black base layer ? Thanks for the video !
thanks :). It's certainly doable. However, it will take longer and the result will not be the same. With the airbrush I have the opportunity to build up the layers quickly and evenly. You have to do this in fine layers with the brush. Layering would be the technique here. You can try working with GW spray cans(Black und red). Spray lightly zenithally. Then work out the highlights with a brush.
Hi, it will be difficult to achieve the same result because I can keep the transitions very fine with the Airbush. If you are working with spray cans, I would recommend priming them black and spraying your Mini with a white spray can zenithal. Afterwards you can use Contrast color Blood Angels Red to paint you mini. This means you can highlight and shade your mini in one step.
In principle you can see a difference between a brush and an airbrush. The transition from light to dark with a brush is possible. However, it takes more time. I work here with the layering technique. Build up the color from dark to light with a diluted paint. It would also be possible for you to work with spray cans. Black spray primer as a primer and spray with a white Zenithal spray can so that you have light and dark areas. Then you can work contrast colors. There are several options here depending on your taste. As a beginner, I would recommend not taking too big steps. Just get started and adapt your painting technique from mini to mini.
What do you mean by safe? Haha I was asking becauase I’m concerned the longer you leave it the more of a tint/filter it would make. I want mine exactly like yours haha 😛
All right. i mean Safe: Oil has to dry. But to answer your question... I let the oil paints dry for about 1-2 hours. It's true that the oil paint absorbs a little, but I wanted that in this case because the red highlight was bright. The oil should still be slightly liquid so that you can just wipe it off roughly with the makeup brush. After that, you can always clean the lightest areas with a new makeup brush and a little white spirit to revive the highlights. It's important that you don't clean them too much... after its cleaned i would let the model dry over night I hope you understand what I mean here :) Otherwise, I can make a video specifically about oil paints if it helps you.
I don't use gloss varkish. I tried it in the past but didn't seen and difference. The only thing would be to protect the model when cleaning thenoil but I don't have any problems here. I use matt varnish for contrast because it shines a bit. But i would use very Little amount because matt varnish can ton down the modell

The basing is amazing - that dusty, crumbly rocky surface really contrasts nicely against the solid, smooth looking armour.

Hmm, would this work with spray cans too? I'm new to the hobby and I don't have an airbrush

Sorry I’m pretty new to painting, would you recommend all these colors if you don’t have an airbrush? I don’t know if it makes a difference at all

When you say let oil filter dry slightly before removing with white spirits, how long do you leave it to dry?
It depends... the safest option would be to let it dry overnight. But you can also start after 1 hour.

Perfect got it! That’s the answer I was looking for 😊 appreciate u taking the Time
Your welcome
Also do you gloss varnish before the oil stage ? Or apply Matt varnish to finish the model? Ty in advance
