It’s May 29th 2024 , still helping someone like myself learn about CDJ 400, I still plan to buy 1 & mix with my DDJ 400 controller, I do have twin CD dual player with 5 channels & connected to my turn tables , technology certainly has come a very long way & knowing how CDJs cost , the more features the more the cost,
You can actually use it without a mixer. You can use the CDJ 400 as a Digital Controller. Which means that if you hook it up to your PC with a special cable, you can actually use the CDJ400 to control a "virtual" DJ setup, of two decks and a mixer. Do a search on DJ Controlers for more information. Another example of a Controler is the 'Numark Total Control'. Sounds confusing at first, but if you do research, you'll catch on quick :) P.S. For best results, yes, 2xCDJ400+Mixer is better!
@HilaryB30 yes, but on the new cdj2000 & 900 they have a link feature. You just connect a cable into them & you can play music from just 1 source. USB or CD.
Thanks for the vid Jonathan! I´m a vinyl DJ and tomorrow I'll be djing with this CDJs for a TV show but never had a go with them b4...u helped a lot mate! cheers
JOHNATHAN!!!! check this out las night i was spinning at this club and my friend said that i was of beat at most of the songs..i have been spinning since 93 with 1200s.i purchased the numarks cdx because of the vinyl feel and i felt at home..anyways so now that i went digital i noticed that in the pith control i didnt know about the 6 10 16 so i just kept it on 16 well now i know why my mixes where off...Thanks for that in thats great because i got to spin again tomorrrow ...
@HostilePro I dont have them myself but I saw a video on the cdj 800 & theres a button called auto cue. Just turn that on or off as you need it. Apparently it's the same on the cdj 400. Peace.
I love the red light thats cool I'm gona get a cdj hopefully from father christmas and was looking at the 800 not sure now, dose this one have the hot start/que function? great vid as ever J keep up the good work.
@xXVikingninjaXx If you're looking to be a scratch DJ, go 800mk2s, and if you're more into mixing, go for the 400s. The 800s' platters are great for scratching, and the 400s can scratch and have additional features. :)
hey johnathan, great vid man. i bought a pair of these decks last year after using technics for years haven't looked back!!!i'm just wondering do u know what the best usb device for these decks. got a great dvd from internet with 4 gb of tunes so burning to cd would take forever!!!tried meory stick but it sometimes hangs when searching using platter. any advice would be great..cheers
Hello i was thinking of purchasing a set of 400's. I have used the 1000MK3 as well as the 200's. I like the jog feel of the 1000's and find that the 200's are way to sensitive and suck for actual mixing unless you own a pair and are use to that sort of thing.I was just wondering in Vynal mode with the 400's if you get that same kinda over sensitivity as the 200's in CDJ mode.
so i obught myself 2 turntables and a mixer to be able to do vinyl mixing and it's suuuuper fun i love it but my collection is quite limited still, and i like doing loops too which i can't do with vinyl so im thinking of getting a CDJ to add into the mix with the TTs to expand my library and features... this seems like quite a nice option. i actually love that jet FX :D
You CAN Use the cdj 400 as a controller for virtual DJ. I have version 5.2 so it might differ from version to version. If you go to config>controllers you will see a pic of a cdj 400. Right click on it and click activate. Done. Cdj 400 now controls your Virtual DJ
Genasis2007 : I'm having the same problem mate. Thought it was my ears at first. I've got a feeling it's to do with the midi settings that may have saved in the cdj system drive. And therefore comes through speakers completely off sync when in CD mode. Either that or a BUG?? can you restart these puppies? Or maybe update software or clean inside?
is this a club quality cdj or is the 1000 really the official club standard. Is this any less of a cdj compared to the 1000. and on the rim of the jog wheel is there a constant pitch bender as seen on the 800 and 1000
I must say, that is a very unique Turntable. It sure is pricey though. ellaskins, you are a very good DJ tutor. I watched DJ Resources demo and they didn't say anything. I had to figure out what they were doing.
i have a question. i just got my new CDJ - 400 and on the outside of the jogwheel the rim is a bit loose. However i also bought another CDJ - 400 and its the same. is this a coinsidence and should i send them back or is this with every CDJ - 400
after burning cds after cds (audio is better to handle than mp3) i've come to a point where its so hard to remember which album has the cd i want and there will be so many cd cases.. i would go with serato and a macbook today.
mk3 1000's are still club standard. cdj400 has USB, MIBI and a few effects that 1000's dont have. but cdj400 doesnt have waveform view, multiple cue points, big (different) platter.
hey, What would you recommend ? This or the Reloop rp-4000 m3d turntables. Ofcourse I very much prefer vinyl but seeing that if I get the turntable I will be using it with timecode. What should I get ? For a mixer, I'm looking at the reloop iq.2
what kind of loose? cause the wheel to fine tune ur beat matching is very loose and I feel it should be but take it back to the dealer if you are not sure if this is right...... didn't you try the CDJ before buying it? hope it works out for you
Hi! I am about to buy my first cdj players i see that you tested a lot of this...i am thinking about rmp 3, or cdj 350 or numark ndx 800....which is the best?
I was going to buy a CDJ 1000 mk2 (used) but seeing demo videos of the 400, I'm pretty much sold on this now. The 1000 is overkill for my needs. This is cheaper and supports more media.
I recently bought a set of these, and was wondering if someone could give me some help. When i put a new cd in to mix. I cue the track ready and beatmatched, but then the tempo will jump. Say i have the tempo set at 125, it will jump to 126 for a example. Then if i try to adjust it, it will do the same. Is this normal for cdjs??
Hey Jonathan, as someone who is wanting to transition from MIDI to CD's/USB drives, what would you recommend? I do want equipment that will last, nothing too cheaply made, but also not to heavy on the wallet. DJ'ing is currently a hobby for me as there is no work anywhere near where I live.
Hey mate, nice review. all your stuff is nice and easy to understand and doesn't get into the real "techie" stuff which is good to get a general overview! keep it up!
Seems really nice piece of kit. Make some small funny scratching demo with it ;) Also how about using cdj roll with mixer roll? how would that sound like hah. I want that :)
hi was just wondering do they come with auto cue (when the tunes put in its already cued to the first beat) because the pioneer 800s do but they cost substantially more. if you can get back at me youll be helping me save alot of money haha!!!
yo ellaskins. iv just bought 2 cdj 400s and a pioneer djm 500. i have two KRK rokit 8 monitors running off a sapphire 6 soundcard. i want this all to run through my macbook bro. what cable goes where etc. so confused.
very good cdj .... and it's also great for beginners , i recommend cdj 400 instead of cdj 200 , because cdj 200 does not have vinyl mode and vinyl mode is a good way to learn... btw, great video!
Just watched the vid there, fantastic and very well explained, im giving some serious thought to getting this setup, atm tho currently trying to work out which would be the best sort of mixer to couple along with the 400's if anyone has any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers 5/5 for the vid.
It's 2021. This is still the best turtorial for cdj 400. I might buy a pair.
It's 2024 and they gonna be soon my first players.
It’s May 29th 2024 , still helping someone like myself learn about CDJ 400, I still plan to buy 1 & mix with my DDJ 400 controller, I do have twin CD dual player with 5 channels & connected to my turn tables , technology certainly has come a very long way & knowing how CDJs cost , the more features the more the cost,
I have 2. Never went beyond this excellent model.
End of 2023,and this video is still helping someone !
Thank you ellaskins
I Like the light/s around the jog wheel (pink/red) looks amazing with the blue lights! Love the style!

How big of a flash drive will the cdj 400 support?
Thanks for the vid Jonathan! I´m a vinyl DJ and tomorrow I'll be djing with this CDJs for a TV show but never had a go with them b4...u helped a lot mate! cheers

the red squares represent the running time, or remaining running time of the track being played
Apparently they're just coming through customs now (UK) and should be in the stores by Friday...
Thanks, this was super informative!
I can see a pair of 400s in my future for sure.
what was the track u were playing ???
good video

Can someone please tell me the name of the song at 6:30 onwards please! Awsome bloke too, learnt loads watching this guy! Ledge!
The track is Fonzerelli - Spirit.

hi, i did one on christmas eve, but i will be doing a few more soon!
thanks
j
How are they at beat matching? You know like actual songs people are familiar with?
so i obught myself 2 turntables and a mixer to be able to do vinyl mixing and it's suuuuper fun i love it but my collection is quite limited still, and i like doing loops too which i can't do with vinyl so im thinking of getting a CDJ to add into the mix with the TTs to expand my library and features... this seems like quite a nice option.
i actually love that jet FX :D
pikerzoli-try using the tempo button, this makes the pitch control variate to slower speed

There's no doubt about it, Pioneer is making the best DJ Gear right now (Also Allen & Heath mixers). Denon's golden age has passed away...

ASIO sound card drivers for these are now available.
Jonathan, could you please tell wich track was playing on the vid? Thanks!
can you hook this directly up to your computer and dj with songs on your computer or is that what software is needed for?
I must say, that is a very unique Turntable. It sure is pricey though. ellaskins, you are a very good DJ tutor. I watched DJ Resources demo and they didn't say anything. I had to figure out what they were doing.
What's the difference between a VCI-300 and a Pioneer CDJ-400? Which is more preferable in a club setting?
i have a question. i just got my new CDJ - 400 and on the outside of the jogwheel the rim is a bit loose. However i also bought another CDJ - 400 and its the same. is this a coinsidence and should i send them back or is this with every CDJ - 400

can u only use triplets on the roll effect or can u change it?
Im wondering whats a better dj cd player the CDJ-400 or the Denon 3700. It would be my first cd players
hey,

To mix drum & Bass and House, would you advise me the cdj-400?
hey, what's the song he plays at 4:43 for his demo?
can be used with Virtual Dj as well... it turns the effects buttons into hot ques
what kind of loose? cause the wheel to fine tune ur beat matching is very loose and I feel it should be but take it back to the dealer if you are not sure if this is right...... didn't you try the CDJ before buying it? hope it works out for you
this is some very good dj equipment you got there would love to mix on that if i could afford it.
you know your stuff
Just got mine. Great piece of kit. Thanks for putting me wide to these.
The big dilema is CDJ 400 or DN-HS5500 ????I could really use some help here....Thanks
Would this combination be good?:
2 x CDJ 400
Mixer: Numark x9 (cosmeticly upgrated DXM09)
Thx!
does the cdj always jump back to the begin after scratchin in vinyl mode? how can i change this?
does it have master tempo ??
whats the minimum fine tune range?? its 0.05% on cdj800 and 0.02% on CDJ1000
do any of the CDJs have cue points? these look awesome...
do i need to plug the cdj 400's into a rane box (or something similar) in order for them to work with serato??

Hi! I am about to buy my first cdj players i see that you tested a lot of this...i am thinking about rmp 3, or cdj 350 or numark ndx 800....which is the best?
where did ya get the cool track?
Right in a bit of a pickle..... Cant decide what to get the 350's or 400's. Need help
please can you tell what is best the 1000s or the 400 ?
Yes, the effects work on everything.
@MrFefen > Yes It is! Check the PRODUCERMAT videos on how to conect the 400s to the Virtual DJ
I was going to buy a CDJ 1000 mk2 (used) but seeing demo videos of the 400, I'm pretty much sold on this now. The 1000 is overkill for my needs. This is cheaper and supports more media.
Awesome
what is that song called?
does the djm 400 have that 'waw' effect that takes away certain frequencys?
I recently bought a set of these, and was wondering if someone could give me some help.
When i put a new cd in to mix. I cue the track ready and beatmatched, but then the tempo will jump. Say i have the tempo set at 125, it will jump to 126 for a example. Then if i try to adjust it, it will do the same.
Is this normal for cdjs??
about how much is the table i want to buy one???
do you have a bpm display???
(i am about to buy a cdj-400)
whats the name of song he's mixing too? i must have it!
is there a wave form thingi on the screen, im looking to buy some of these
I have one, incredibel what you can do whit it
but you need to take your time to learn to work it
so im guessing this is better than the cdj 200??
overall, Im wanting to get these very soon, in about a week, is it worth it?
Whats it like as a midi controller with Ableton live? Anyone used it like this before?
it doesnt look like it but does it have hot cues?
Hey Jonathan, as someone who is wanting to transition from MIDI to CD's/USB drives, what would you recommend? I do want equipment that will last, nothing too cheaply made, but also not to heavy on the wallet. DJ'ing is currently a hobby for me as there is no work anywhere near where I live.

Whats the Song he is using???
hi was just wondering do they come with auto cue (when the tunes put in its already cued to the first beat) because the pioneer 800s do but they cost substantially more. if you can get back at me youll be helping me save alot of money haha!!!
+Dj Blakey 1993 a bit late maybe, but yeah, they have auto cue.. :)
Why firewire? you wont use that transfer speed for music...
yo ellaskins. iv just bought 2 cdj 400s and a pioneer djm 500. i have two KRK rokit 8 monitors running off a sapphire 6 soundcard. i want this all to run through my macbook bro. what cable goes where etc. so confused.
what song was that?

Any chance of a comparison between CDJ200 and CDJ400?

very good cdj .... and it's also great for beginners , i recommend cdj 400 instead of cdj 200 , because cdj 200 does not have vinyl mode and vinyl mode is a good way to learn...
btw, great video!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW Denon DN-S1200
Best DJ tutor ever. Kudos.
is it better than the cdj 1000 mk3 though ?
Can anyone who owns the CDJ-800 MKII say they prefer the 400? Im lookin at buyin one or the other and wanna see the pros and cons of each.
Just watched the vid there, fantastic and very well explained, im giving some serious thought to getting this setup, atm tho currently trying to work out which would be the best sort of mixer to couple along with the 400's if anyone has any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers 5/5 for the vid.
Just saw Jonathans vid there, think the 400 is defo better for home/party use!
