    This was so informative. When I took a Turkish spindle class I got in to a advanced beginner class because they didn’t specify that you had to meet the criteria with a Turkish Spindle. So I totally missed how to build the cop. I’ve tended to just go one layer out as far as I can. Then that becomes yarn barf if I remove the shaft and arms. Now I think I know why.

      I’m sorry you had trouble with cop building. Hopefully this video helped and you are now on your way to more stable cops!

    Thank you so much. It became so apparent once you did it , I almost felt ignorant for not "getting it" on my own. But than again, if you've never done it, how are you to intuitively know??

      Tina Hobert Thank you so much! I am so glad it helped you get the "ah ha!" Moment 😄.

      Spinning Sara that's exactly what it did. That "ah ha" moment became crystal clear and I had to run and get my Turkish spindle back out!

    Yes very helpful. I’m a trad spinner. New to Turkish .
    I have a question on …. How do you build up the butterfly ? I’ve been spinning a yard or so and winding on., but I like the idea of having a few yards of ready spun to transfer to bobbin. Thankyou

      Hi Maggie! You need to try a temporary cop! I have a video on making a temporary cop on a Turkish spindle. There is also a detailed video on making a butterfly, if you need it.

    Good instructions but shame it's red yarn on red wool. Quite difficult to see (particularly on a small phone screen 😉)

    When you wind the single around the underside of the spindle, are you making a neat pattern like on the top of the turtle cop? Or are you just laying the single wraps on top of each other and making no particular pattern underneath the turtle?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lauren. I keep the underside of the turtle neat, laying each wrap right beside the one that came before. You will continue to wrap closer and closer to the shaft on the underside until you can’t fit anymore then you need to start a new layer. Those first few layers are a bit messier than the later ones but should still be as tidy as possible.
      Let me know if you have anymore questions 😊. HTH!

    What size and weight are you using?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ineke Dusseljee this spindle is a Jenkins Finch. This one is 12 grams. They are roughly 3.5 inches across.

    These tutorial are perfect... someone knows where I can find that tiny lightweight spindle? The only ones I could find in Europe are 3d printed, and wanted to have a wooden one for reenactment

      This particular spindle is a Finch style from Jenkins. As far as I know you'd have to order from them directly and pay VAT and customs. But they're worth it!

      IST crafts on the Isle of Wright (UK) might be a resource.

    • @SpinningSara

      This spindle is a Jenkins Finch. You can get those from yarntools.com. You can also get small Turks from Turtlemade on Etsy as well as Snyder Spindles on Etsy.

    I know, I'm dumb, what is a cop please?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not dumb. A cop is the organized storage of singles on your spindle.
