Thanks for sharing this method! I tried it today (have the Ashford warping peg too, lol) and it’s working great. I absolutely love spinning from rolags but carding them up takes a long time, and making them on a blending board also takes longer and I experience that snarl from the two rods.
Im soooo happy I found your videos! I just purchased a spindle yesterday and BFL roving because of the longer fibers for a beginner. I didn’t realize there was so much to learn, your videos are going to definitely get me on the correct path of this adventure. I love love knitting so this was my next step. I’m so anxious to start off right and with any helpful suggestions. So thank you so much for these wonderful videos!
Thank you for this tutorial I'm new to spinning and was having issues with spinning directly from my top but now I think I've found a way to make drafting easier and manage my colors.
I really enjoyed ultimately video because it is so detailed and its clearly from the voice of an experienced spinner. I mostly am trying to improve my supported spinning and I'm going to try it next.
This is such a great idea! I'm still pretty new to spindling and was trying to figure out how to make my own rolags as well as control color. Thank you for 2 lessons in one.
I have never used a spinning wheel or spindle but want to try it this year and this is a great video to prepare the wool for the spindle!! I am going to look at your other videos now, Hey Brown Berry gave a link to this video of yours
Thanks Erika! Be forewarned! Spinning is addictive! Lots of people find themselves spinning way more than knitting once they get started ;-). Good luck and let me know if I can help once you get started!
Thank you so much for this! This has helped me tremendously to gain control while I'm drafting, and I love the airy feel of the yarn when I use the fauxlags as opposed to trying to draft in hand from a larger chunk of my fiber. I spent two hours tonight playing with this method and it was fantastic =)
Love this technique! and Your point about how if you spin from the end you're going to pull out the fibres from longest to shortest leaving the merino at the end was soo helpful! I'm a new(ish) spinner and have had this happen but couldn't really figure out why. Can't wait to watch more of your videos :D
Thank you so much for this video! I wish I had come across this method before I started my current spin project, because I really wanted to make a woolen yarn out of a slightly felted braid. I settled on hand fluffing and long draw, but I’m definitely trying this next time. I’m already thinking about all of the possibilities!
Thank you! What a great way to use hand painted tops. I have some lovely corriedale/merino tops waiting for me to become more adept at supported spindle spinning. I would love to see how you spin these.
I'm new to spindling, and have just got a support spindle, this made such a difference. As I'm rubbish at carding, could this be used on a wheel for spinning woolen spun sweaters? Thank you for such a helpful video.
@janchambers welcome to the wonderfully wooly world of spinning! Happy to have you join us 🤣. Yes! You absolutely can spin these on a wheel for a more woolen sweater yarn. It won't be truly woolen, since you can only achieve that spinning long draw from carded fiber, but this will definitely get you a loftier, warmer yarn. Thanks for watching!
Do you do this so there are blocks of color rather than having them blend? I only have drop spindles so are these practical for that type of spinning. Thank you for your video.
CJ Eisenmenger My favorite one was the warping peg that comes with an Ashford Rigid Heddle loom. I sold that loom so I no longer have the peg to measure, but if I were to estimate I would say approximately 3/4 of an inch.

Never seen this fiber prep before but definitely going to try it they look awesome!!
This is going to make supported spindling so much more addictive than it already is! 😁 Your videos are so helpful. Thank you Sara!
SannekeKnits thank you for the kind words! Happy spinning!
Thanks for sharing this, looks very organized and easy to color control and draft. Can’t wait to try this!❤
You are so welcome! Happy spinning!!

Thank you for your well explained and demonstrated color work. I am learning so much!

Thanks, just what I needed! 😊
Glad I could help!

Congratulations on the new wheel! How exciting! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks! Love your videos. I always enjoy seeing how people prep and spin. Lamahooks...
Hey Hey! Good to hear from you! Thanks!! I do too, which is part of why I do these videos :)
Spinning Sara your video with pof turk with the temp cops really helped me!

would love to see how you spin these - they look so lovely and fluffy!!!
I've added it to the "need to film" list of things to do :)

Thanks for showing this! Would love to see you spinning these. I’m heading off to find a dowel, now!
me too!!!
I will do my best! I'll get it filmed soon-ish :)
Thanks for this. I am a beginner
spindle spinner and am learning how to better prep my fiber. I’ll definitely try this!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
thanks for sharing
Great tip
*eyes the wooden chair and its dowel like legs from across the room*
Haha! This actually made me giggle! Thanks for the laugh.
So much fun 😊
Awesome Sara! I love this video!

@@TheSpinningSara Thanks for your reply, that's really helpful. I've been enjoying your videos about spindling.
Hello Sara, thank you for the video. It is very informative. Can you please give to me the size of the wood you are using?
The dowel is 6.5 inches long and 3/4 of an inch thick. It is the warping peg from an Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom.
Spinning Sara Thank you so much for your quick answer.
Thank you Sarah, for those of us without spinning wheels, we can head to the craft/hardware store and pick up a dowel!
It's a year later! Time to try a fauxlag because my fiber is really getting on my nerves
Good luck!!
Do you do this so there are blocks of color rather than having them blend? I only have drop spindles so are these practical for that type of spinning. Thank you for your video.
Hi Sara, what is the diameter of the dowel you used? Thank you so much for sharing your video!

Lol. Paw.
so you are pre drafting
Yes, and changing the prep from worsted to woolen
I am not a guy. How many guys would actually watch this I wonder.
Haha, no clue. I’d imagine however many guys were interested in spinning from fauxlags would watch it.
