I was 15 in 1985 when the VMAX rolled onto the showroom floor at D&B Yamaha in Edmond, OK, where my dad was the service manager..... I have drooled over this bike ever since.... There may be faster bikes out there now, but none can hold a candle to the sheer muscle looks of the VMAX....
I was there with him at Anaheim Stadium he took me on a wheelie just before his fire burnout there... A lot of good times...Never trusted anyone when I was on the back of a bike like I did him .. Miss him bunches RIP PW GLEASON #57
At the age of 30, I bought my V Max (32nd one made), to replace my ‘62 Triumph Bonneville. The 1st time I seriously put my hand into it, my eyeballs peeled back from my eyelids & were literally flattened! Scared me silly! No muscle car did that, so I sold my ‘69 Camaro 427. The 2nd gear cog began failing at 20K, updated the tranny to a 3rd design unit. Added a full race Kerker 4/2/1 system & DynoJet Stage7 kit. 145hp went to 160. I let a few trusted friends try it, they returned physically shaking from fright! Hated the brakes & the occasional high-speed wobble it had. Peddled it for 20yrs🏆😎.
This video was ripped from a DVD I created, compiling all of Jay's past TV appearances. All Jay had was VHS tape. But at least it's been immortalized! Message me private if you would like to buy a DVD. There's about an hour of Jay's appearances, much of them Vmax.
I bought a Vmax brand new in 1985 it was a bad ass bike!!
Wish I still had it.
Paid just under 6K for it.

I'm proud to say I own a 1985 Yamaha V max. It has over 60,000 miles on it looks like new , And it'll still scare the hell out of you!!
Same here. Love my ‘85.
There is no substitute !
10.2 is hauling ass. Especially back then
Great bike & vid. Got to love the 'cheesy' 1980's ending.

Beefed up critical gears...... except 2nd.
Awesome, though. I love mine.
Yeah I've got a low mileage '85 ,low because 2 nd gear was out for years.had it fixed now.
Damn ! I wish I would have said that!
V-max isso sim é motor de verdade um motor impar de verdade.
Good luck Jay from Eddie and Zane from Chattanooga. Good to see you twist it again!

I go to pick up my 98 in a few days
10.27 'flat'? Flat means it was an even second.
