    Watching this and knowing I have got to do all this myself is slightly terrifying. Due to been forced into full time van life due to a family breakdown and van life been the only option I have of staying close to my two young daughters,these videos are going to prove priceless to me. Thank you for your times and efforts making them.

    Good to have you back buddy. I've done several DIY builds on vans but never come across the recycled plastic bottle insulation before. I've now stuffed a couple of rolls in every orifice (don't half make your eyes water in one of them!) I am ply lining now and for the first time using these self DRILLING screws, mate if you have not heard of them get some as they save a lot of time and are easier than drilling holes then changing bits to screw in screws. I'm using a fixed (but easily removed) bed system to from Ikea. You might have heard of them they are called Skorva adjustable bed frame sections.

    Great to see the van coming along Shaun. The DPM that youve used will indeed stop the damp coming through but as with houses it's about stopping the warm air inside meeting the cold surface of the van. My worry is that the condensation will still form on the metal and will puddle inside and you'll never see it as its all hidden 🙏 hope I'm wrong but good seeing you back "at work" 👍

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว

      The dodomat liner i installed in the previous video will prevent any condensation happening behind the vapour barrier at least that’s what I’m hoping anyway

    Thanks again , nice journey and nice to see you’re not rushing it , I had to take apart a professional’ conversion this week and it was 10% of what you’ve done .
    You can use foil tape or gaffer tape , you can’t use parcel or masking tape - the adhesive dries out so the joints will fail. If your drilling in and catching insulation pop a bit of masking tape near the end so you’ll judge a depth of say 5mm to stop going to far , buy hooked ‘Stanley ‘ blades - they are like a hot knife in butter on pvc and lastly if you buy the ply from b and q they’ll cut it for free for use ( saves dust and mess .
    And wasn’t the weather yuk here this week rainy walk at maenporth this morning
    Keep it and a great watch and good content- thank you

  • @misterthegeoff9767
    @misterthegeoff9767 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A thought for more natural light while retaining stealth. I did a Transit Connect I converted a few years back and I got a lot of light from having a skylight in the roof. It still kept the stealth because nobody could see it from street level and was really good for ventilation at night as well.

  • @housesolace7649
    @housesolace7649 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Having the plywood get wet and then using it, that's what creates mold. That's why new houses that get built in the rainy seasons get bad mold after some time because some nut built it during the rainy seasons. People think letting the wood "dry" is fine when it's not. Wood is porous. It's in the wood already and sometimes isn't completely dry. You're going to build up moisture within that and eventually rotting will set in. Goodluck.

    Great progress in a fortnight of rain and gusting wind - I've been working outside in the southern part of Cornwall for that fortnight (with a van and a 'tent' for shelter), so I'm very impressed with how much you've achieved.
    Any work in a van takes far longer than you expect - nothing's straight / simple / obvious, everything needs working out, test-fitting or doing twice!
    At least you are now warm! Possibly too warm!
    The stealth benefits of not having windows are clear ... though I did wonder when you mentioned a week of continual rain shortly after you said you can open the doors to let in light ... At least you have plans to fit a window if you (or Kate) decide it's needed!
    Glad you have found time (I'm between supporting your wife with the baby duties - paternity leave is there for family time :-) to get back to converting your van - and provide great videos to entertain and inform!

    Quick question. When you said you didn't screw the ply to the walls because the insulation would wreck the drill bit, isn't that the same as screening the battons to the walls?

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you screw the buttons to the walls you can see what you’re drilling into. If you held a large piece of plywood up against the wall of the van and screwed directly into the metal you wouldn’t be able to see if you’re avoiding insulation or not

  • @DexterGoneWild
    @DexterGoneWild ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I installed a vapor barrier on my first build. I'm glad I used a translucent barrier because i was able to see just how much moisture that thing trapped into my walls(left an area in the garage space under the bed exposed so I could monitor it) Lets just say I ripped that barrier out and all future builds will never have another vapor barrier. Basically, the outter metal on the body is a vapor barrier, when you add a second vapor barrier on the inside of the van, it essentially traps moisture in the insulation. You need to let the insulation breath and air out!

  • @benrowe681
    @benrowe681 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question for mr love Sundays …. First let me start by saying love the channel and all the hard work you put into the videos however I really do think the “Stealth” camper vision has gone if I see a van in a lay by or in a car park I’m immediately thinking camper / camping. Everything you need to put in it to make it safe a roof vent no stealth etc etc wouldn’t you rather a good set of windows you can see out of for security without the delay of cameras and invest in 3 or 4 of the different types of safety devices such a running locks door jams etc plus you can have it open for cooking and if your gunna have the doors open people already know it’s a camper lol ? Just a thought but that’s the beauty of building your own van your own way ! Can’t wait to see it finished ! 🤌🏻

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess I just don’t want windows I quite like the feel of being in a little den without any windows but like I said I can always add them later as it’s easier to add them if needed then it is to remove them if I don’t need them

    • @misterthegeoff9767
      @misterthegeoff9767 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience I can tell when a vehicle is a stealth camper because I have owned 2 but when I camp out in mine it seems that the average layperson does not and when you are being stealthy it's not other stealth campers you are hiding from, it's nosy neighbours and dog walkers. I'm so non-stealthy at the moment I have an awning hanging off the side and a kayak on the roof but I've had people walk right past the car with me inside and not give it a second glance.

      You don’t have to change your van to a camper van with the dvla to use and insure it as a camper van. Regularly put kayaks on the roof so I've always been unsure about a higher top van (even just the next height up), even though internally it would be much more comfortable.... I've always been keen to change it, but have you got any hang ups about being just that bit taller?

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My Vivaro with the roof deck on it only just fits under the barriers so I made the decision that if I’m going to go high top I may as well go really high! There’s still plenty of places to park without barriers so I’m not concerned but then again I haven’t started using it yet 😂

      @@LoveSundays hmm that's true, I guess once I have the kayaks on the roof I'm way out of luck with barrier heights anyway, so it doesn't matter.
      Are you looking at a roof deck or carrying stuff on the roof?
      Cheers for the reply!

    Hi, really enjoying your build so far. I'm currently converting a 2016 transit so its really useful to see the same vehicle. I've been struggling to figure out how to get around all the odd shapes and curves
    What screws are you using to attach the 12mm ply to the metalwork? Self tappers or are you drilling the wood and metal then using a normal screw through both?
    Thanks a lot
    Ed

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ed, I drilled pilot holes in the metal with a 4mm drill but then screwed 5mm thick self tappers through the wood into the metal. And it’s really sturdy

      @@LoveSundays Thanks for getting back to me.
      Cool, I'll have a go.
      Is the aim to get those battens perfectly vertical to build off or are you following the shape of the metal uprights?
      Cheers

      If you can get them as level as you can it will help later on down the road. If you’re using cladding it will have to be straight

    Even if its not a dry couple days could you not plug the holes in a dry moment and put a heavy duty tarp on the roof

    Can I ask you what kind of ply did you use for the wall framing? I saw people suggesting use the birch ply due the strength and stability, but here in UK that’s so expensive, so I’m trying to find a similar one but less expensive.

    Is going great but wouldn't you be better dealing with the roof leaks before sealing it all up inside? Feels like you'll end up with water trapped between the DPM and outer skin of the van which could result in rust

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the water is coming in through the roof not the sides. So no chance of the water getting behind the DPM. I fix the leaks in the next video anyway

    I cant understand why you are using DPM? its not a vapor barrier that you know, its to stop rising damp - you would have been better using the silver lined bubblewrap or silver foil all around.

    • @LoveSundays

      That’s what I originally thought until I did some research. The foil bubble wrap it pointless as a vapour barrier and all the big camper conversion companies use DPM
