    I like the idea of not having windows. Very 'stealthy ', more wall space for whatever. You could put in a little skylight window for ventilation and light. The backdoors open onto the beach is lovely enough in my books. We'll done Shaun, you're doing a grand job. Charlie seems to think so too 😊

      Rather than little skylight consider a glass marine deck hatch so you can climb out onto the roof rack that's what I've done and I'm really pleased with it.

    Keep your leisure battery and all of the domestic electrics separate from the vehicle's earth.
    If you have any problems or short circuits on the domestic system you can end sending power surges through the van chassis.
    ECUs, alternators, fuel pumps, stereo and all sorts of expensive whizzbangery are all connected to the van's chassis earth.
    It does mean that you have to run more wires but at least you have complete piece of mind that both electrical systems are completely separate and can be easily isolated through a double pole double throw breaker (smart relay) which should be your only connection between vehicle battery and domestic battery.

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว

      So are you saying to earth it through the vans current battery?!

    • @davyfella
      @davyfella ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LoveSundays
      Fit a smart battery relay to the van battery. That connects your leisure battery when it senses that you have over approx 13.5v coming from the alternator.
      The twin core wire from the smart relay and the van negative terminal should be the only connection between van electrics and your domestic electrics.
      Run a separate pair of wires to each individual circuit (internal lights, fridge, water heater, etc)
      It may sound like overkill. But this lesson has been learnt from many 1000s of kms of off-road adventure driving across Australia.
      Remember all circuits should be on their own fuse.
      You should have a minimum 30 amp fuse on the feed from the smart relay AND on the wire connecting the two earth terminals.
      You should consider a master breaker or easily accessible battery disconnect terminals just in case you have issues which needs all power to be shut off quickly
      (Also on the feed from your solar panels).

      Thanks for the advice

    • @lifesahobby
      @lifesahobby ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LoveSundays plastic washers I think if you can find them .
      But as you make the frame of the bed , that's where the problems occur later on . Keep the framing wood indoors for a few days . . Or leave room that you can get inside the framing to remove a screw or two . More screws equals more squeak if you get me .. wood will shrink as it dries as you know , so what I've found is if I can screw down a floor board with one screw , instead of three over two metres , I won't get any squeaking at all . It'll squeak with nails or screws . .just a different squeak .
      Happy are those who find a solution to their own liking.
      Thanks for the brilliant video btw and inspiring so many people.

    You are motoring along now Shaun!
    Your dad's jig looks like a great tool - he's a clever chap!
    Did you cut just outside the pencil marks so the cut-out lined up with the kitchen inserts, or leave a tiny lip to trim off later (it looked quite tight to get the pencil angled enough so the lead ran along the edge - often when space is tight you get the wood round the lead pushing the mark away by 1 or 2 mm (or 1/16th" in old money!)).
    It's looking really really good though - and far better than it did when you started! Comparing your first video on this van build with this one shows that you've made massive progress - I know it's hard when you are so close to the work seeing how far you've come!
    If you didn't come across as being eternally cheerful I'd be worried when you compared it to how it looked when you started!
    Hope you, Kate and Charlie are getting enough time together in between working and this 'little project' ... the next video doesn't have to be next week if you need some real rest ...

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cut it smaller so I could trim it afterwards but it’ll be finished with a trim anyway to hide any imperfections after I’ve painted it. Don’t worry about me not having any time with the family I’ve got a huge amount of time of work at the moment so 2 days a week working on the van is nothing when I have 5 days at home with the baby. It’s be a lot more difficult when I go back to work.

    The wheel arches sit higher because your floor is 25mm higher than what it was.
    Does it rain like that all year round?

    Oh man the rain is the enemy, can't escape it on the west coast of Ireland either! You didn't varnish the inside of the ply ling? As I am about to do mine I wonder is it appropriate?

      I’ve never varnished any of my lining in any of my vans and the wood normally out lives the van

    Starting to take shape week after week mate , there's no point rushing it cause u want to make it look your own , just a question how much do u think it would of cost you for all the equipment for your van?

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m keeping note of how much everything is costing to I can work out the full cost at the end but some of the big stuff like the solar will be expensive

      Not sure yet might sell it but I need to get it in the garage before I do as it has a small issue with going into limp mode 😂

    The panels you cut for wheelarches... I'm suspecting you forgot you've raised the floor? And just cut them from the old templates?😅😅
