The first combo I had where I felt the mojo and clarity was above an acceptable level was: Focusrite interface> Golden Age 73 pre jr, and AKG C214 mic. I later used AKG mics exclusively for a while and the 1073 sound became a staple for me after that. I also learned that the clarity of the AKG’s is what I appreciated, but not the brightness (excluding the XLS), so my mic choice evolved towards a more vintage sound.
Aha! You mentioned this combination to me before when I mentioned I had just picked up a duet 3 for travel recording. Oddly enough I haven’t had great results with the 214,414’s from AKG for my voice specifically, and I’m actually a rapper with a deeper tone. Do you have any links to the records you’ve recorded with this vocal chain? I would love to hear em.
You have a great way of expressing complex audio concepts that are often hard to put into words. A bit off-topic from me: could you please make a video explaining why you chose the Audeze MM-500 over the Audeze LCD-X? I’m not sure if you’ve tried the LCD-X, but I saw your video about the MM-500, so I assume you might have tested them. There are quite a few people, not just audiophiles but professional mixing engineers, who prefer the LCD-X and consider them superior for mixing.
I did grab a Austrian Audio OC818 couple month ago, it's base around the 414 and it ripps on vocal! (And on drums, acoustic guitar and guitar cab too) A go to for a lot of stuff can't go wrong with this type of mic. Btw your Channel is great man keep it up! 🔥

I have the cardioid only version, the OC18, and it’s fantastic for vocals or acoustic guitar.
Haven’t tried it yet on drums or a guitar cab
I am going to catch you 😆 Lets grow together. Wishing you the best.
