      Wish they had an Rx option. My Rx Oakley's were stolen from my car a while back and it is painful to buy replacements. Some poor thief is probably wondering what sort of messed up sunglasses they ended up with.

    Thanks for the honest review! That's why I watch this channel. Regarding other channels glowing about the Stumpjumper, a lot of these other reviewers depend on advertising and other revenue streams tied to the bikes they review. Hence there is a conflict of interest. It's actually pretty hard to get an honest review out there.

    • @marksandoval5361

      Lots of reviewers don't want to be critical of a bike because they want that bike company to keep sending them bikes to review. I've seen bike companies blacklist reviewers who gave one of their bikes an honest review.

      haha thank you for saying so... I've been sitting on this edit for a few weeks unsure if I should publish it... I also video's talking in front of my house with my wife filming after 3 different days of riding never being happy with what I said and feeling like I needed to give the bike another chance and more tinkering with the set up... in the end, just never felt super comfortable at high speeds on this new stumpy 15.

    That description of being "hung up" is a good way to put it. I noticed this on my EVO as well. Will be plush as hell but if you hit a square edged bump it can feel like the shock doesn't move.

      @mtbyumyum that is more the suspension than the bike itself. Running a properly setup coil fixes that up. I have a stumpy evo. I find the same issue with the front end of my bike mostly with the grip2; air suspension has limits🤷🏽‍♂️

    I really appreciate the honest review. I have the Stumpy 15 and I don’t have any of your biggest issues because of my setup. I can ride size S4 or S5 and I went with the S5 to get the longer chain stay. That makes a big difference in getting traction at the front wheel and feeling balanced on the bike. I also purchased the frame only and built it with DT Swiss wheels that are much stronger than the ones that Specialized used. I strongly believe the wheels they chose hinder the stumpy in rough terrain. Lastly, I’m using my EXT suspension that I had on my previous bike. I feel extremely confident on this bike in rough terrain and it still rips on more mellow terrain. That being said, you shouldn’t have to make all the changes I made to the bike.

    I love it! Finally a review where you’re not absolutely gushing over a bike. I can justify giving you credibility for honest reviews! 😜 in fairness, your enthusiasm for the sport is contagious and I enjoy every review you post!
    That being said, I have a 21’ stumpy evo. I ride a large and I’m probably about 35 - 40 pounds heavier than you.
    I put a coil over, Mulleted Cascade link, and a 170 Zeb on my stEVO for the same reason you’re describing about the current stumpy; it just felt nervous in high speed chunk.
    Now, it’s definitely more stable in the rough with loads of traction but sacrificed that poppy sporty nature you talk about. Still climbs well enough, though.
    The stEVO and, by extension, the new stumpy is a great bike but definitely takes some tweaking to find that sweet spot.

    I'm no bike reviewer and I don't get to ride every bike so I can't really compare between bikes other than the ones I have owned. I also live in a remote part of New Zealand (Wanaka) so I don't have access to test ride many different brands. I bought the Stumpy 15 without even seeing one in the flesh and TBH I love it. Maybe it's not the best bike in the world but it's certainly frickin' awesome. I'm loving it.

    I’ve been highly anticipating this review! Thank you for your honesty! I was super stoked about the Stumpy 15 when it was announced but the forced mullet on the S2 size (which I am) and the forced AXS on Comp model already has me second guessing if this was my next bike. I’m glad you talked about feeling a bit unconfident at higher speeds because I value control and confidence. I’ve been stuck between this and the Switchblade and this review has solidified my choice of the Switchblade. Thank you again and keep up the great reviews!

      @mtbyumyum  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad it was helpful. Also, double check sizing on the Pivot switchblade before you purchase. I’ve always felt right at home on a medium pivot bike until recently. Both the Firebird and switchblade in size medium are too big for me. In fact, I bought a size small Firebird two seasons ago and really enjoyed it, but in the end, it was a little too cramped for me. Always appreciate your reviews. I think the challenge with these adjustable bikes is there’s just not time to test every setting. Really curious to see if you changed that HTA if you’d feel differently about the bike feeling nervous. I personally love the middle ground coming from a stumpy evo. I think the previous stumpy was too on the “pedally” side and the evo is too much for pedal days. The 15 is a good balance for most of us who don’t love the chunky stuff, moderate jumps and also want to be able to pedal all day. It’s a great ONE bike option. It is a master of none which I think we all have to remember.
    Last point, I’m a techy person and LOVE that there is no hole for the cabling. Much cleaner look. That being said I understand folks feeling forced. Every bike is not for everyone and I am not sure I would’ve mad that decision for the masses. They’re attempting to keep the price of bikes up in my opinion by forcing the need for electronic shifting.

That being said I feel if you like tinkering I’m sure with all the options available you can make 15 feel just like the evo, it’s practically the same geo after all, bump the fork to 160 and it’s basically identical. Hey man. Love that you gave an honest review. Thank you!
    I’ve been on a 2019 stumpy since…well…2019. Wanting to upgrade and have heard nothing but glowing reviews on the stumpy 15, which made me a little uneasy (worried about bandwagon reviews).
    So here’s my question. Will you keep trying with your stumpy 15 to see if you find a setting or adjustment that works for you? I hear the new suspension tech requires some fiddling to get sorted to rider preferences.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly, after three weeks, I’m pretty turned off. I set up dozens of bikes every year. I think the Bike just requires more from people who really want their bike to be dialed. I spend the time to get my suspension just ride. I know other people that I ride with, who don’t ride that often, they don’t even know how to set up their suspension and don’t really care that much. Different strokes for different folks. The bike is un rideable for me as a daily driver with the suspension where it’s at right now. Not planning on fiddling around with it anymore. A bike in this price range should be able to be set up pretty straightforward.

    You touched on a point that has kept me from going back to any long travel Trail or aggressive XC full suspension bike. They all require some kind of dedicated bike set up to feel like you are getting full suspension benefits. They all never seem to be able to handle really fast tech descents plus do i really want to test them going “full gas” and not be able to go back to work Monday morning because I cased it? Just saying. But I really like your reviews even though I don’t think I will ever be buying a full suspension bike again.

    I always thought what made this bike special was the ability to make the bottom end of the shock really soft, with support at the end of stroke. I wonder what would happen to the understeer and bump compliance if you got the shock set up softer, where it would use all travel. I haven't ridden this bike, so I have no idea!

      Yeah, interesting. My experience with Specialized 4 bar horst link "fsr" is I've had to sort of walk a fine line on bike set up.... enough psi (think not too much sag) so the bike pedals well but not too much psi where the bike doesn't have traction and doesn't get through it's travel.

Like you said, I feel like this new stumpjumper 15 is a blend of the two previous stump jumpers. I would definitely prefer being on the Evo in janky, gnarly terrain… the new stumpjumper 15 definitely feels very smooth over chattery sections of trail though. They will offer cable shifting and different suspension platforms when the alloy version is released. It took about 2 years for Spesh to release the Alloy Evo. I think they will be quicker for the Stumpy 15, bc I don't think they are selling. Mandatory e-shifting turns a lot of people off.

    Good to hear your perspective... I've had too many stumpys to list, including the stEvo, my19 650b, my21 flex stays 29er and more, with several different shocks on each.
    I honestly think you need to play with the shock, something is not right. It is night and day difference between the stEvo and stumpy15/genie, with the later feeling like a much bigger bike.
    Did u play with the bands? Verify 30% / 16.5mm sat in the back and 20%/30mm up front?
    Has that fork been on anything else? Not a fan of fox, too many quality control issues.
    It is crazy composed setup that I do think is likely most attributed to the shock and the lower BB.

    • @StevenEliuk
      @StevenEliuk 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @mtbyumyum what size were u on? I did grab a 45mm stem vs my typical 35mm, I also sized down to an s3 vs s4 typically as I wanted something more playful and good on steep faces larger jumps. I've got a big bike too. I settled on one spacer for mid stroke and the larger green spacer for end stroke support and about 170psi. Those playing with the spacers be warned, shock will feel terrible until u cycle it completely a few times, go do some good bunny hops. If u are riding flow and no chunk, two volume spacers, feels most similar to stEvo... Luv the transformative feeling with huge volume and one though. U will sit deeper, more often, into the stroke though so some 160-165mm cranks suggested.

    • @mikes.8305
      @mikes.8305 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ Even “dialed” it’s a weird shock. It’s designed to give up more rear wheel travel easier than similar travel bikes without genie, at least in that first two thirds of shock travel. Specialized also claims that the rear wheel moves as much as their 170 travel enduro on small to medium hits. Because it’s so eager to give up travel but it’s still limited to 140mm, I found that I reached an inconsistent ramp zone where the super linear feel of the shock hits a wall and gets more unpredictable than what I’m used to with most bikes. My” cure” for this was simply to run more pressure in the shock and run the extra tokens. With that it feels so much more like the stumpy Evo only better bottom out by far and better climbing.
      This set up has absolutely worked well for me and the bike is now predictable, pretty amazing traction for a lower mid travel bike, and excellent bottom out support. All that being said I can from a 22 Bronson which still is my favorite trail bike ever. I also have a hard time recommending this bike to a more aggressive rider because it’s a bit weird and certainly complicated. I don’t even know if what I feel would be replicated for other risers(although clearly not in some cases).
      I have not gotten to ride the new Ripley or new Ripmo but I was a big fan of both bikes last generations. I’m also not sure I would buy a stumpy 15 over the newer bikes like the new Bronson or Ripmo either. I got the stumpy 15 about a month before the new ripmo dropped. All I know is the clock doesn’t lie and I’m definitely moving fast down hill on this stumpy. Also it jumps like no other stumpjumper as prior generations always have a compromise where I feel like I would get to pick traction or bottom out, sometimes not good either of those…
      Unfortunately sciatica has been keeping off the bike so I have been living through reviews and videos for a few weeks now so thank you for the great content as always!

      I struggled with my Epic 8 EVO at first as well, but now it feels pretty dialed. The biggest improvement for me was lowering the bars (removing a spacer form below the stem). The next best improvement cam from increasing the size of the volume spacer in the rear shock. With these changes, it's easier to weight the front wheel and now it corners great.

      Yeah, the new epic evo was a tough one for me. Honestly, I wish I still had the old stumpjumper single pivot frame. I’d love to try that bike with a new fox float shock instead of the DPS shock that came on it.

    I have the same bike and had the same issues at the beginning. I love to ride jackobes ladder and trails of higher speeds and difficulty, and finally found what works for me! I’ve been on a lot of yetis and the evo, and this bike far outperforms it on everything! Try the biggest volume spacer is the positive air chamber, and back to one in the negative. Run 5-7 psi lower than you are now, and 2 clicks faster if rebound. It will feel so much better on the higher speed stuff, and for the flow trails just turn the compression dial to the 2 or 3 marker. Another big thing was matching the fork feel to the rear. I have the lyric with the 3.1 in a 160 also with my bars mounted low. This setup feels insane! Hope you try out that rear shock setup!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, OK. I didn’t even think about messing with the volume spacer in the other air chamber. Didn’t even know that was a thing. I guess there’s just a lot of tinkering with this new fox genie shock. That’s probably more than what I’m looking for in a bike. I kinda like the set it and forget it approach. That has worked well for me on my Ibis Bikes….

      @@mtbyumyum I think that’s a big reason a lot of the initial reviews raved about this bike. A lot of them had specialized engineers with them to help tune the shock. Definitely wasn’t straight forward. Understanding the air chambers helped me a lot.

    My opinion, all these mid-travel trail bikes, even some of the all-mtn bikes, come spec'd with stems far too short for the trails the majority of riders ride. I'm usually on XL's and a 50 or 60 length stem usually puts enough weight up front to stick the front tire, obviously steeper the terrain the more the short 35 stems make sense.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      UGG, I think you’re right. I probably should’ve tried this thing with a slightly longer stem before publishing this review.

    • @RookYZRM1
      @RookYZRM1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We’ve got a healthy debate within my group whether raising bars or changing stem length is the better way to shift a riders weight forward or back. I’m more on the “adjust stem length” side of the argument, but I can see raising or lowering the bar a legitimate move in some scenarios.

    • @project4funner
      @project4funner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ no I don’t think you’re riding too far back, I think all these new bikes with super short chain stays and long reaches bias a more reward stance. So no matter how far you lean over the bars your feet are closer to the back of the bike. Creates that unweighted feeling in the front of the bike.

    I think Specialized blew it. The Stumpy Evo was probably the best Trailbike Specialized ever made. Engineers have a saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Why would Specialized dump the Stumpy Evo? Would the new Stumpy be better with a 160mm fork?
    I've said it before and I'll say it again. There are only 2 types of Trailbikes to own. The first would be the 150/160mm travel All-Mountain bike with about a 64.5 HTA. And, if you could only own one bike, this would be the bike to get. The second would be the 120/120 Downcountry bike with about a 66* HTA. I wouldn't consider any bike with travel numbers between those two bikes.
