Nice job, I have a Craftsman Hand Planer I need to do this to. I see there are lot of parts. The sander looks really good it shined up nice. It should give you a lot of service.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. It does have lot of parts, but I’m glad that they used mostly similar screws for most part of this tool, which made it much easier for me. I’m glad i got this find. Always needed one. Thank you for watching.

Great video but here's the easy way to remove the old belt and install a new belt. I saw my Dad do this nearly 50 years ago and I still use the sander. Hold the sander on end and push the front wheel straight down on a workbench and the wheel will lock into place. The old belt slides off easily and the new belt slips on easily . Then align the belt and snap the wheel release then tighten the screw.

Thank you for explaining that to me. It made it easier. I don’t use mine much. Trying to keep it clean for my collection. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it.

Just cleaned and polished mine up. It was my dads from the 1970's. Used all these years needed a good going through. Cleaned up real good. Good brushes, and all bearings and bushings still good. The switch is destroyed though, doesnt work. I cant find one, they've been discontinued. Still on the hunt for one.

Very nice. After I restored mine, I bought a wooden box from Total Wine, and made it as a box for this tool. I’m not planning to use it anytime soon. To be honest with you, I spent too much time polishing it, so I decided to keep it as a collectable item.
I have few switches in my tool box. I’ll check, and if I find an extra one, I’ll give it to you. (If I find one). I just have to look around. Is yours the same model as mine?

Looks like new. I am finishing my 315.22670. I cant find the gear cover gasket anywhere. I noticed you did not use one?

Thank you. Very nice on your project. I didn’t use the gear cover gasket temporarily. I didn’t have anything for it at the moment. So I put the tool aside for now until I make one for it. It think it is necessary to use one. Thank you for watching and have fun with your project.

Can you still get parts for the vintage sander, I have a 3" 315.22580 that still works , but has a rough noise about it.

It is possible, but your chances I’d say is low. You might be able to find some, but depends on which part. Most parts can be replaced with something similar. Like bearings, gears, and belt.
You can also open it up and see the parts are in the way they’re supposed to be.
Check the bearings. It could be an easy fix.
