When Usopp first started speaking, it was all excuses. This is why Luffy and Zoro both pretended not to hear him. If they acknowledged the first word's out of Usopp's mouth was an excuse, they'd be forced to leave him behind. By pretending not to hear him until he finally broke down and apologized, they gave him multiple chances while also staying true to their word since the first words they "heard" were actually an apology.
@Gidget Niccals It isn't about who was wrong or right. It's only about captain-crew dynamics. You can't have a crew that disrespects the captains decision to the scale of what Usopp did and then have the captain bow to the crew by running and begging for them to come back. It would completely mess up the captains credibility. Usopp left of his own accord. He challenged the captain to a physical fight. The only way he COULD come back is if he dropped to his knees and apologized. Zoro explains all of this in episode 323. He obviously wanted Usopp back too, or he wouldn't of played deaf to give Usopp more chances. But Zoro also understood that there needed to be some type of action taken to get the Captain's credibility back. You can't let insubordination slide, or you'll end up with problems.

Everyone seems to think Usopp doesn't have an unnatural strength, I think that because Usopp doesn't believe he has. The truth is Usopp has been shown to be as tough as the big three as far back as Alabasta. Here's a couple of hints in that arc, 1. Usopp has never been sick. Vivi even reacts to this as if it's the craziest thing, showing that never being sick in the One Piece world is unnatural. 2. Usopp takes a 4 ton bat to the face and not only gets back up, but despite his insistance that he's too injured to move, moves around like he wasn't even hit after about 20 or so mins after the fight. The mole woman even comments that after getting hit with the 4 ton bat, Usopp shouldn't even be alive. I think the only thing that stops Usopp from being as strong as the others is actually his mentality, he thinks he's weak.
You make a good point. It really is his lack of confidence that makes it seem like he doesn't have unnatural strength. If that's the case, it makes him even more relatable and human of a character.
Im on the break on the one piece (about to hit gear 5) so idk about ussop rn. But after all one piece injury, if i think about it, that 4 ton injury its just kinda.... small. Its still have place in my heart, bcoz the amount of blood ussop had after impact and how his skull also being damaged and yet this guy still alive? Jeeeeez.
While I generally agree, the part of him (and the other guy) never having been sick is just a reference to a Japanese saying that idiots never get sick. So I wouldn't take that too much into consideration ^^'
for me thats what makes me right now so annoyed with ussop as if he was a friend i was trying to help improve himself in the ways HE wants to be better and to avoid spoilers for kinda sorta, ill just say that its like i said. for me he feels like a friend who keeps on asking for help to better themselves but just wont listen to anything you say no matter how true even they know it is which since my mom is like that but also with super early signs of dementia because of alcholism, it hits all the more home. like honestly i just want so scream in his face that he is strong and he needs to think about how it is HE is strong namely being his beyond magical mind and skill and as you mentioned, the fact that he is untarually strong even if he cant see that fact and refuses to think about it out of fear that he would be being too full of himself to ACTUALLY think thats the case. hell luffy was going all out in that fight trying to end it and while anger blinded him a bit, that doesnt change he let loose on ussop and ussop held out far longer than any NORMAL person coulda ever hoped and hell when we see luffy drop hordes of even hq marines whose training looks like hell on earth incarnate, it should tell ya something about his strength.
Another thing to consider is how his slingshot in Enies Lobby was able to hit much further and more accurately than the Marine's rifles. He'd probably need a lot of strength to even pull it back far enough, let alone using exactly the right amount of strength to hit his mark.
Usopp's name is literally a play on the Japanese word for "liar", and his whole character is based around lies, the truth, and humility. Prior to Water 7 he had several arcs showing that despite his lies to others, his intentions were honest. Water 7, however, was the first time he confronted the lies he told himself.
Usopp is actually the bravest of them all, being able to recognize and accept your weakness is the bravest thing a person could do but it all depends if your willing to keep going forward.
Usopps arc isnt on pause while he is the sogeking though, its developing, the sogeking persona itself being usopps solution to help the strawhats while not being ready to face his incompetence and shame. The big paradox he is facing is he has to help convince robin of going back, which makes him face the fact that he too, could and should go back, its the classical thing of being able to see the best path when its not you who is going through it.
What are you talking about? Usopp isnt Sogeking. During Ernes Lobby Usopp was over in Water 7 doing something during that time, he just asked his friend Sogeking to help out because Robin is his friend.
Additionally, I think his talk with Sanji play a huge role in changing his point of view. When Sanji shows up to save Usopp from Jabra, he once again falls into a state of feeling worthless. But when Sanji tells him, "I'll do what you can't. You go do what I can't," the light finally flips o in Usopp's head. And while he doesn't defeat any members of CP9, his actions from the roof are no less important in saving Robin.

One of the most emotional parts of the fight was Luffy didnt want to get rid of the Merry, but he was scolded by the shiprights "you call yourself a captain, do you not care about the lives of your crew?" Afterwards seeing usopp beaten down by the frankys, it helped him realize that his friends are more important than his emotions and that he must replace the Merry. He did it for Usopp.
It's important to note that the Going Merry alsp representated feelings of inadequacy and the fear of abandonment.. Usopp felt like Merry.. a tool that could easily be replaced and abandoned for something stronger.
I think that another important aspect here is that one piece emphasizes so consistently that being weak isn’t a bad thing. Luffy himself will point out that he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without his crew, in fact he probably needs them more than they need him, and that isn’t a bad thing. Everyone is weak in one way or another, but what’s important is that we work together, we rely on the strengths of those close to us, and they rely on our strengths. Usopp’s issue isn’t that he’s weak, every straw hat is in one way or another, it’s that he is afraid of that fact and let’s it get to him, and doesn’t focus on how he can help the others just as much as they help him.
I just hit Wano arc myself. Sad I was so late to watch the series as I got heavily spoiled on everything. Yet the story is SO good it still gets me. I still cry. I still get annoyed. Frustrated. Happy. That’s how great of a modern odyssey Oda has made in my eyes. That I can be heavily spoiled on events, yet still enjoy seeing said events as if i never knew the spoilers. Amazing.
Just caught up to current episode last week. For me the spoilers did take away some of the emotion that was supposed to come from the events that happen through out one piece. But it never stopped the fun that's for sure. I enjoyed every minute of it. My girlfriend even got into it and that's a feat on it's own
Watching analyses of the end of Mary, reactors reacting to it, rewatching it myself... It stirs up the emotions all over again. And it isn't the only part of the story that does that. This shows how powerful the story, worldbuilding, and narrative is, that seeing those moments in isolation (I.E. without the multi-episode build-up) is still as effective now as it was when I first experienced them.
Oda is a master of small, human moments that accumulate into a greater narrative. It's a sort of abstract/nuanced writing style that makes everything feel intentional while also being so huge it's hard to imagine it fitting into one person's imagination, lol. I've read through and watched through several times, and it still brings feelings I haven't had since I was a kid. Terrific series and a terrific video, I'm glad to have found such a small, talented creator.
This is, across all types of media, the story that has made me cry the most. I'd say it's pretty up there with the hardest too. It's been such an incredible journey that I'm already dreading the fact that we are in the final saga.
"this was the merrys version of the arlong park walk, leaving her final mark by being there for her friends when it mattered the most" STOP IM GONNA START CRYING AGAIN 😭😭
Great video. I think Water 7 was the point for many readers and viewers to connect with One Piece on a whole new level. For me this was the story that elevated One Piece beyond other great long running manga series. And at the heart of it all are those very intimate small stories that lead to the epic clashes and stupid shenanigans we all love so much.
This is a beautiful video with a great perspective on characters and themes. God these moments in time for One Piece is etched into my mind. Your editing and structure flow so smoothly! Thanks for your work! I teared up a bit over the discussion on Tone, you nailed it.
This arc was when Oda was in his prime. Not only was the writing superb in this arc and constantly interesting but in the manga this was when Odas artwork was at its best.
I am in the beginning of dressrosa right now and Water 7 is still my favorite arc because of the emotion and character development of Usopp. This video was amazing, keep making amazing content like this.
0:28 thriller bark is the defining arc of the series in my opinion or atleast it’s the most memorable for me ; real fun and I love the new character that arrives in it . Your in for a treat
eh, it suffers the same issue as skypea being too meandering in it's first half and having most villains that take up time being meh at best. I can't remember the name of a single one of Enels priests, and while absolom and Perona are memorable, I think they spend way too much time on the weird netorare plotline
this is the kind of style of video essay that i love and this video does perfectly. explaining everything we've watched but to its fullest with tie backs to the past or even future of a series but also just being able to put all of it into words artfully constructed. great work
Just Thank you, i was close to tears once again by revisiting this arc throu your video. Its not like i have cried over merry for like 20 times already but here we are again
As a fan of one piece for my whole life I would like to say this is a amazing video and would like to see more videos like this on your journey to catching up with the community
Almost had me crying again with that merry scene 😢 this was such a good video please keep making more. Especially one piece as you go on in the series.
Love to see this video, Ive seen too many people hate on our boy usopp saying that him leaving here was just cringe or something. The way I see it, some people just don’t have the media literacy to understand this situation (even though it’s made pretty clear why it’s happening)
One thing that a lot of people don't touch on is the fact that it would have been cruel to Merry to force her to carry the crew to their doom. If they'd broken down in the middle of the ocean they would have been stuck and left for dead. Letting her go is a kindness in that case, as she would have otherwise died a much more terrible death and taken the Strawhats down with her.
I wouldn’t worry to much about making videos about one piece as you go along. Their are multiple communities on differing parts of the manga/anime,. And all the people who’ve caught up usually like seeing different fresh view points.
It doesnt matter how many times you see Robin saying "i want to live" or the going Merry burn... YOU WILL CRY. A LOT. Also the Going Merry still plays a part on the ship to this day!
Though Usopp was definitely a part of the straw hats I still view it as Luffy gaining three crew mates, (not counting the sunny). The way this arc helps show how members would have left for their own reasons but then further solidifying their resolve and sense of family with each other is what really hit me on this arc. They truly have no reason not to put their lives on the line for each other anymore and that isn’t ever really questioned again. I can’t wait to see if you make more videos the further you get in the series this was a beautiful way to talk about the character who for me was a truly slow burn to come to like. Would love to see your thoughts on their growth.
Man, I absolutely love this because Enies lobby and water seven was one of my favorite pre time skip arks because of the emotional weight of each situation at hand and how delicate the balance was. A beautiful and relatable articulation of problems we face everyday.
Reading One Piece and catching up to the latest chapter, in my opinion Water 7 is the best arc. A lot of videos that I watch breaking down One Piece, they always come back to Water 7 because of the moments that happen in this arc that affects the whole series.
I can't believe I haven't seen your channel before. Even for only 7 videos, some of the videos had pretty high view counts and yet you still only have 1.08k subs?? The algorithm and viewers aren't doing you justice man, don't let those numbers fool you, just off the quality of this video alone I can tell you're far deserving of more than a couple hundred thousand subs, especially if you can keep up this level of quality throughout more uploads.
OMG this video is perfect. i got to water 7 today and was so confused by usopps pointless whinieness and you helped me flesh out usopps character, tank you so much
masterpiece of a vid bro thank you for this. the percentage you used is an ingenious way of explaining that u don’t have all context but that you recognize that there’s more bro this vid is so good thank u for your hard work
Amazing video. This randomly popped up in my recommended, and I'm so glad I watched it. You deserve a ton more views! Hope you'll make more content like this as you continue through the series. Water 7 Arc is what solidified One Piece as my all-time favorite, and I'm currently not even caught up yet myself (in Punk Hazard right now). Maybe you can do another "I'm too weak" video in the future?
Even seeing you talk about the conversation between Luffy and Nami was enough to make my eyes mist over a bit. It is such a powerful sentiment that he lays his hat on her; the single most important object in the world to him. There is so much weight in that one moment. And as the other three men stand up and fearlessly head to take down Arlong? It's just pure mastery. Toei sucked at the early days of animating One Piece, and the most recent arc has made me change that opinion about their work going forward, but they still managed to nail the atmosphere of that scene even with so little budget and time.
Out of everyone’s redesigns post-timeskip I like Usopp’s the best. No spoilers, but he continues to work hard and become stronger, and his design reflects his gain in confidence. Fucking A I love this series so much.
Thank you for the video, I hope it gets the attention it deserves!! It's really interesting to hear the point of view of a person who hasn't even read/viewed 50% of the story, but still understands it so well. I also liked Usopp's storyline in Water 7, it's one of my favorite One Piece storylines up to this day because I can relate. Amazing video
Gonna be honest, classic One Piece is easily better in every respect to the later seasons. You'll know when you get there, but there is a very specific turning point where everything changes... and the formula becomes repetitive. I won't spoil anything else. Just keep everything you've said here in mind in the future and you'll understand what I'm talking about

This is, across all types of media, the story that has made me cry the most. I'd say it's pretty up there with the hardest too. It's been such an incredible journey that I'm already dreading the fact that we are in the final saga.
Wow, I love this. Robin and Franky tend to steal the show with their arcs during Water 7 and Enies Lobby, but Usopp's is so relatable.
Glad to have you on board with this amazing series
You're in for a treat~ ✧
Really well made video. You definitely deserve 10 times the amount of views and subs with this level of analysis. Keep it up man
Ngl the title "I'm too weak" made me think this was gonna be about a different moment, but I won't spoil that.
I'm seeing that a lot in the comments, but thank you for not spoiling! Pure coincidence.
Man, you cant just put every moment in one piece that made me cry all in the same video like that
Wait till they hear bubbles popping. That is the true "I am weak" moment.
"Oh, you thought you guys were ready for the new world?? Nah get the fuck outta here"
This is a beautiful video with a great perspective on characters and themes. God these moments in time for One Piece is etched into my mind. Your editing and structure flow so smoothly! Thanks for your work! I teared up a bit over the discussion on Tone, you nailed it.
Luffy giving Nami his hat makes me cry every time
This arc was when Oda was in his prime.
I can’t wait for you to find out more about Sanji’s past. It clarifies and enriches his empathy for Usopp in this arc. Really enjoyed your video!
I can't remember the name of a single one of Enels priests, and while absolom and Perona are memorable, I think they spend way too much time on the weird netorare plotline
this is the kind of style of video essay that i love and this video does perfectly. explaining everything we've watched but to its fullest with tie backs to the past or even future of a series but also just being able to put all of it into words artfully constructed. great work
Wow, you really made my feelings burst. Thank you. Seriously.
This arc is really magnificent in many ways, mayba one of the most rounded ones
Just Thank you, i was close to tears once again by revisiting this arc throu your video.
Its not like i have cried over merry for like 20 times already but here we are again
Literally my favorite two arc that made me love one piece and the characters
As a fan of one piece for my whole life I would like to say this is a amazing video and would like to see more videos like this on your journey to catching up with the community
Almost had me crying again with that merry scene 😢 this was such a good video please keep making more. Especially one piece as you go on in the series.
Damn Imagine making hundreds of thousands or even millions of people cry over a ship. This arc was not for nothing one of the best ones
Love to see this video, Ive seen too many people hate on our boy usopp saying that him leaving here was just cringe or something. The way I see it, some people just don’t have the media literacy to understand this situation (even though it’s made pretty clear why it’s happening)
This was really good! Please keep them coming as you progress on this amazing story 🙏
Y
AAAAAA
One thing that a lot of people don't touch on is the fact that it would have been cruel to Merry to force her to carry the crew to their doom. If they'd broken down in the middle of the ocean they would have been stuck and left for dead. Letting her go is a kindness in that case, as she would have otherwise died a much more terrible death and taken the Strawhats down with her.
Gotta give this one some cred, idk how I came across it but I cried watching the video
Literally cried almost every chapter, you explain usopp I’m water 7 so well that it makes me see it in such a new way
I wouldn’t worry to much about making videos about one piece as you go along. Their are multiple communities on differing parts of the manga/anime,. And all the people who’ve caught up usually like seeing different fresh view points.
There will be never a time where I don't cry at this drama
Watching this made me cry again.
welcome to the crew my friend. we will have lots of adventures together
It doesnt matter how many times you see Robin saying "i want to live" or the going Merry burn... YOU WILL CRY. A LOT.
Also the Going Merry still plays a part on the ship to this day!
Man, I hadn't thought about either of these pivotal moments in years. Thanks for sharing!
OMG this video is perfect. i got to water 7 today and was so confused by usopps pointless whinieness and you helped me flesh out usopps character, tank you so much
This video is amazingly written keep going my man
masterpiece of a vid bro thank you for this. the percentage you used is an ingenious way of explaining that u don’t have all context but that you recognize that there’s more bro this vid is so good thank u for your hard work
Usopp is my favorite character in OP. There, I said it.
Same here lol
Ditto
Usopp is so underappreciated. He's a very human character with all his many flaws and I love him for that.
the famous walk, was a moment i realized that i love one piece. that moment changed everything
Its great that youre going thru one piece for the first time and giving us your thoughts. I love it , its only up from here , hope you keep loving it!
I can't belive you don't have 1M subs yet, this is high quality content
Amazing video. This randomly popped up in my recommended, and I'm so glad I watched it. You deserve a ton more views! Hope you'll make more content like this as you continue through the series.
Water 7 Arc is what solidified One Piece as my all-time favorite, and I'm currently not even caught up yet myself (in Punk Hazard right now).
Maybe you can do another "I'm too weak" video in the future?
Good luck in ur journey in this new world, just found ur channel can’t wait for more amazing videos
This is so well explained and editted, how are you still less than 1k.
The Walk literally was the turning point for me, it’s crazy to think just one moment made me a fan for life
Amazing video essay!
Honestly super well articulated for one of my favorite arcs in one piece! Keep up the great analysis!
I cried so much this arc
Broo !!! 😭😭😭😭🥲
Amazing video!!
I literally jus watch one piece recently from nov-april
Youre about 400 episodes in
You are in for a treat!
Thank you
Can't wait to see the follow up to this video with different context. Keep up the amazing work!
Out of everyone’s redesigns post-timeskip I like Usopp’s the best. No spoilers, but he continues to work hard and become stronger, and his design reflects his gain in confidence.
Fucking A I love this series so much.
Thank you for the video, I hope it
gets the attention it deserves!! It's really interesting to hear the point of view of a person who hasn't even read/viewed 50% of the story, but still understands it so well. I also liked Usopp's storyline in Water 7, it's one of my favorite One Piece storylines up to this day because I can relate. Amazing video
I think I have to say it you made a great video about one piece I love seeing people watch one piece and talk about it
Just started my journey and made it to the timeskip like 535ish. Keep it up brother
I’m rocking with you bro! Can’t wait for you to catch up so we can get more videos like this. Subscribed
Gonna be honest, classic One Piece is easily better in every respect to the later seasons. You'll know when you get there, but there is a very specific turning point where everything changes... and the formula becomes repetitive. I won't spoil anything else. Just keep everything you've said here in mind in the future and you'll understand what I'm talking about
What a beautifully well done video
Good job man really love how you write the scripts for this
I really appreciate you making this video
I cried throughout the whole arc aswell as through this video
absolutely beautiful video. almost shed tears in school.
Finished water 7 around the same, so good
A beautiful character essay, in this time of year, in this community, localized entirely within the pre-timeskip narrative?
Excellent take thank you for this. Always gets me.
This is one of the greatest videos I’ve ever watched 😢
Amazing video! I'm glad it was the first thing I watched today. 🔥
Really nice analysis man especially for a newer fan. Would love to see more.
I wish you made this when you got to post war but the point is still getting across really well
Amazing video, the background music was a great choice!
i thought this was about something around ep500 lmaooo "im too weak" ur gna love it
And that's why this is my favourite arc. Well said
Please make more videos like this the more you watch, this is a masterpeice
amazing video!! a great level of analysis that i can't wait to see more of. hope you like the rest of this one piece journey ♡
Just finished this arc and I was So impressed bro
That usop and luffy moment still breaks me whenever i think about it
DUDE THIS IS SO WELL MADE :)
I'm with brothaa. I have goosebumps everytime.
this was great. would love to see more like this
Just wait till you get to the part where Luffy turns into a dinosaur and eats Nami to death creating a time loop. I cried at that part.
This is the direction I was hoping for.
yeah I remember this very vividly top 3 saddest moments in one piece
Yep this is in my top 5 fav moments in one piece 😂😂😂😂😂🎉
You should make more videos about One Piece. I'll be here to watch em. Good job, and welcome to the community 😁
Its crazy cuz this is just the tip of the ice berg, there are so much sad and hype moments after thriller bark
This is an incredible video how do you not have 1k subs yet wth
Sogeking was part of usopps transformation, he showed that when push comes to shove hes willing to call his old friend sogeking and help out the strawhats.
