  • India started blending ethanol with petrol in 2003. Back then, the petrol sold in India contained just one percent of ethanol. The country achieved 10% ethanol mix in 2022 and planning to disperse 20% ethanol blended petrol by 2025. But why India is mixing ethanol with petrol?. Watch the video to find out more.

Sugarcane Molasses is a byproduct of sugar making. We don't use the pure sugarcane juice for ethanol. You can also use corn which takes less water and bio material like rotten fruits and vegetables and rotten grains. Every year FCI throws away a lot of grains which can be used in this process.

not enough sugar to reach the 10% goal, the solution to this issue was at the beginning of the video, you dont have to make the ethanol out of sugar, you can make it out of anything that grows from the ground, every crop that is grown has left overs, stalks, leaves, stems, etc, all this can be used for ethanol.
what makes less sense, if India is #2 global producer of sugar, then they should have more than enough being as sugar has the highest ethanol yield. brazil is #1 sugar producer, they make all their fuel and still export 10s of thousands of tons of sugar to the world.

Why don't India forces automobile companies to manifacture engines which can completely run on ethanol . So we can cut our oil imports completely . So more profits will and less expenses to the country right...

Because science doesn't work that way. Two problems:
      1. Ethanol is significantly less energy dense than refined petrol. This can destroy the mechanical balance of an engine. 100% Ethanol simply doesn't have the calorific value to power a vehicle.
      2. Even if we find a way to make such engines, it is highly likely that existing vehicles will not be compatible and the product will be simple too expensive for the avg consumer.

The Future is EV or Electric Vehicle that can be plugged in. The biofuels should be a smaller percentage of the solution to help relieve stress of higher gas prices and inflation. Electric Vehicles should be the priority because they will give you cleaner energy with less pollution.

petrol per liter is Rs.32 (approx. without taxes)
ethanol per liter is Rs.62 (approx.) oil corporations have to buy at this price only
how is this benefit to people?

Ethanol is produced locally in india with increasing its production we will decrease its cost due mass production.
Also it puts less strainon foreign exchange reserves.

For example imagine rice farmers switching to sugarcane. Sugarcane yield can be increased and profit the farmers, but Rice yield is reduced. In turn we might face rice shortage and end up importing rice too. This whole idea is to reduce the imports.
