@@loco_logic in my 35 years of gaming I've seen numerous examples of popular franchises going downhill after a new studio takes over. Sometimes it works but usually it doesn't. @@Luke973T then I think we kinda agree. There's always a possibility a dev with more passion and expertise with this particular genre can take up the mantle and carry on its legacy. The chances of it working out are not guaranteed, but there are some cases where it has. Just have to find the right fit. Besides I don't even think I would want modern-day naughty dog to handle a stylized platformer, even if they wanted to. A lot of the people who made those classics are long gone, and the folks that are there now have a totally different mentality and skillset. I would actually _want_ new blood attempting their own spin on these older IPs.

Before this we had the brilliant Astro Bot VR and Nintendo Land. I *really* love this style of celebration collection games that turn out to be gems. Brings me back to Little Big Planet which is my favorite game of all time by far
The AstroBot VR game is super good too I heard. Probably not to this level. But I have heard so many people rave about it saying it was one of their favorite platformers over the years

And with so many nowdays adding things like battlepasses and daily challenges, they are starting to feel like work. Astro Bot takes us back to the good old days in more than just it's genre and cameos
I haven’t played the game, i likely won’t be able to as I don’t have a PS5, but the way it looks kind of gives me similar vibes to when I first played the original 2 little big planet games. While I don't have a PS5, I'm glad _someone_ besides Nintendo in the AAA space is taking swings at the 3D platformer genre. Last game I played to hit this kind of "feels like a toy" vibe was Hat in Time, and that was an indie from 7 years ago. And yes, *PLEASE* Ubisoft bring back the Rayman platforming series. Origins and Legends were some of the best 2D platformers ever made.
So I never played the Astro Bot Playroom game...hanging my head in shame. Generally these games haven't been my thing for a long long time. You said stop the video and buy it. I maybe let it play for 1 more minute and was like, fuck it, I'll buy it. Played a little before work and was immediately addicted. Went back and finished the video you made. Goddamn man, it doesn't stop getting better.
You’re stronger than me. I couldn’t even put down Space Marine 2 to jump into it. Lol. I finished the campaign at least last night so started Astro today.
I've been loving it so far. It makes me want to go back and play R&C Rift Apart despite already 100%ing it. We NEED platformers like R&C, Jak, & Sly back. SIE has multi-generational ips/mascots. They need to start respecting them like Nintendo does theirs.

Nice to see my boy Skill up still coming down to see us common folks and dropping a review like the old days. Cheers mate
I have watched your reviews for quite some time now, and I cannot recall you ever opening with “do not watch. Just go buy.” I will definitely give this one a purchase. Looks fun!

Damn Ralphie...that is one brilliantly conceived and constructed review, well done mate.
Astro Bot definitely should help to bring back the mascot platformer, if it sells well, I have my copy at least!
I downloaded this game off of my friends game share because he was big fan of Astro’s Playroom and he highly recommended I try out Astro Bot as he said it looked amazing. I literally had no idea what the game was other than it being a platformer. I have since finished the game and got the platinum trophy as well, and I am so thoroughly pleased with my time spent in this game. Absolutely one of the best platformers I’ve ever played and probably my favorite PlayStation title in the last 10 years. The amount of creativity and originality in this game is astounding, it truly is a must buy game if you own a PS5.
Picking this up tomorrow and Space Marine 2 on Monday. Will always support quality games.
Heard so much good about this game, it was the trigger point for me finally getting a PS5. Fantastic game so far, and looking forward to all the other exclusives i'll get to play in the future.
The game seemingly never ends in it's creativity. World 3 and I'm going slow as I don't want it to end
Huge props to any content creator who says 20 seconds into the video, "Don't watch this, go play the game." That is the most glowing review any TH-camr can make considering watch time is so important.
I voted for Wukong, but I cant be mad, this little game deserves the GOTY.
Me and the fiance are LOVING IT. She’s playing on her PS5 and I’m in the living room in mine and we frequently pause and talk to each other abi ur what we’re doing
I hope this game is successful enough for Sony to revisit older platformer IPs like Jak and Daxter
@@MattTheHuman9 naughty dog is done with that series
@@Luke973T there are other devs besides naughty dog
@@loco_logic in my 35 years of gaming I've seen numerous examples of popular franchises going downhill after a new studio takes over. Sometimes it works but usually it doesn't. Now if they hire an indie team that grew up playing those games and give them proper support then it can work. Sonic mania and tmnt shredders revenge come to mind.
They've been making Ratchet and Clank games for 20 years but nobody buys them or even acknowledges their existence...
I picked this up simply just from seeing this videos title, not even opening the video to see your disclaimer, putting space marine on the backlog. I finished it tonight and I can say its genuinely one of the best games I've ever played, never have i had a big childish smile on my face for so long, thanks for such an effective and simple recommendation!
This could be the best game ever. I'm a huge huge Nintendo-fan, but never in my life experienced an immersive experience like Astro Bot. Nintendo should step up their game with the Switch 2.
But I have heard so many people rave about it saying it was one of their favorite platformers over the years
it is VERY close to this. Some of the exact same bosses and levels (with diff. layouts and such). It was the beta run for this game, no question.
@@IknowIamkindagreat Interesting!
@@IknowIamkindagreatI concur. The VR Astro literally made me say wow out loud. My jaw was on the floor with how impressive that game was.
@@philngood5955 I have a 1.0 PSVR 1 sitting around. I need to fix it's broken HDMI box and get the game to try it!
@@philngood5955 it induced a true zen state while playing. No other game has ever done that imho.
Seeing the Bloodborne skin gives me hope that it’s not forgotten
This is one of those games that reminds you why you play video games. Do yourself a favor and play it.
Well said. Its a game anybody can play and enjoy.
This review puts it perfectly. When you play Astro Bot you feel like you're *playing*
Games are meant to be fun, regardless of the genre.
Those games made me feel what can only be described as magic. We don’t get many of those games that make us feel that way nowadays, though it could just be that I am older now. I hope this game does the same for others what those games did for me
Try Sackboy A Big adventure (the next little big planet). A really well crafted game I played after Astrobot playroom and it has a similar vibe.
Hopefully it gets a pc port later so more people can enjoy it. I've played 8 hours so far. It's fantastic
@@ryokophreakI've been playing it for a couple of hours it's fantastic, but it'll do well on pc especially now the duelsence works great on the PC now
The fact that this is goty material makes me absolutely overjoyed. I really hope the masses decide to dive into this magnificent gem.
I LOVE Astro Bot and I'm a 41 year old gamer. It wasn't really on my radar but I am beyond glad that I made the purchase. To me, it I a definite game of the year, not just a contender
Watched the first 45 seconds of this video two weeks ago, and just came back to finish it after having 100%-ed Astro Bot. Great recommendation from Ralph
I literally just got the Platinum for this!
Honestly one of the best games of all time!
Once upon a time that's what the majority of games were on playstation 🤣
A beautiful throwback to when games were made to be fun and not meant to be movies
Yell it louder for the board members sleeping in the back
So I never played the Astro Bot Playroom game...hanging my head in shame.
This game without exaggeration is the best adventure game I’ve played so far
You need to play more games
Started yesterday. Platinumed 30 minutes ago. Masterpiece.
We genuinely lack high quality games that are kid friendly, so this is great
This game made me pause Wukong in order to play it. That's pretty damn impressive.
You’re stronger than me. I couldn’t even put down Space Marine 2 to jump into it. Lol. I finished the campaign at least last night so started Astro today.
same here
@@mandrews6282 nice! How are you liking it so far?
So many people were hyped for wukong and Space Marines for September, this is what I was waiting for lol
Are you 12?
@666slateran666 are you a w⚓️ ?
Between this, Zelda and Plucky Squire this is a very cozy month for releases
this is one of the most fun i had with a video game since the last couple of years. i highly recommend everyone to play it!
I've been loving it so far. It makes me want to go back and play R&C Rift Apart despite already 100%ing it. We NEED platformers like R&C, Jak, & Sly back. SIE has multi-generational ips/mascots. They need to start respecting them like Nintendo does theirs.
Finally, a game worthy of Ralph's reviewing skills. Top-notch review, mate (and on front page of Astro Bot's Google page!).
I feel bad for not having a PS5, sounds like success to me. Hope this game does well, it sounds amazing.
The part about adults in a ball pit caught be off guard, laughed so hard 😂. Awesome review as always
Finally a legitimate competitor in the 3D platformer space.
8:17 It really stands up to the *literal* definition of the word "manifest", meaning "touchable *by hand"*
“Arches like a cat” was so accurate
Hey ShillUp, just popping back in to watch the vid after beating the game. Can't stop smiling.
You get a thumbs up only for telling me to go away and finish the game first! This is something the ign review did not tell me and had me heart broken
*closes down after first thirty seconds*
Thanks for the advice mate! Very nice of you.
I love this game so much. I'm only a couple hours in, and I'm already dreading finishing it, because I don't want it to be over.
I’m buying it next weekend, I’ll be back to watch the review

Rabbids was first, then minions stole the idea :/
Just listened and didn’t watch to avoid spoilers. I can’t wait to get this at Christmas.
SkillUp for the love of GOD where is Destiny 2 TFS review?!. My 10 year journey with the game must be concluded with your review because I need some type of closure.
honestly i couldnt care less, never touching destiny again
I wouldn´t keep the hopes up man, it´s the BG3 review situation imo.
Your 10 year journey ended when Bungie still fired a bunch of their devs even after the success of The Final Shape. Greed is Destiny's legacy.
@@ardent835 they were getting let go regardless of the final shape's sales.
@@Luke973T Correct that's the problem.
Very excited to check this one out once it hits sale price.
yeah but Ralph, astro bot doesn't even compare to the much loved balan wonderland
Great to see this win GOTY this year at the Game Awards
