I found when removing and reinstalling the intercooler if you take the right intercooler mount bracket off (the bracket where the right bolt attaches through the intercooler with the rubber washer to the engine) it allows you to slide the intercooler left and right easier and get the y-pipe attached to the turbo much much easier. Then simply re-attach the bracket once the hose clamp is tightened. I struggled the first time as well. Now I can remove and add it in no time at all. Only two bolts on the engine hold the bracket in place as I recall. I haven't seen other people do this, but removing those two bolts and bracket only takes about a minute, but saved me lots of time and frustration.
The grimmspeed splitter makes a huge difference, at least I feel a better throttle response after the install. It will improve the airflow onto the grimmspeed tmic unit, highly reommended.
I’m not crazy how it attaches to the intercooler and not the hood. I was looking at the scoop flow and it goes directly to the tmic just fine. Just the left side is open, which I found to be ok for cooling purposes. If I find the need, maybe I’ll try it, but I’m probably going to run it without it.
Awesome Bro thats great. I would prefer a top mount so the radiator and oil cooler will get some cooler air. Also I think Grimmspeed has a stage 3 package for STI
Nice, I wanted the coated version but couldn't justify paying the premium for it and just got the standard. Kinda regretting it now bc that looks so much better in black lol
Congratulations man!!!!! But seriously, my shopping list just grew. I just picked up the Cobb access port vent holder from fast WRX( which I’m gonna watch your video again) but anyway! You’re gonna have some explaining to do when my wife asks why am I buying all this stuff! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love the videos as always from detailing to car par parts👍🏻👍🏻 keep it coming!!!!!
Ordered the same TMIC FMIC is by far the better option except for the fact you remove the factory crash beam. If you ever get into an accident you are fucked when doing an insurance claim.
Love grimmspeed parts man so awesome that your sponsored by them. They are an amazing company and make great stuff. Got their banner haha. But i might have to get that intercooler down the line 🤔
Love the look of the black TMIC. I wonder if this TMIC will clear the AEM Strut Bar. The AEM & Perrin strut bar is designed differently. Not sure if you know anyone that has this setup or know someone who has it.
Hey Chris, great job awesome looking , any chance you’re selling the cover that was on your old intercooler I’ve been waiting on back order for that one for a while
Question for you about your AOS lines @ 12:50 in your video. Have you had any issues with your return line (the line that runs through the bracket and under the turbo inlet) not having heat sleeve all the way up to the bracket?? I just had mine installed and they did mine just like yours, but if you look at IAG’s install guide, they have it covered all the way to the bracket!? Just wondering if I need to add more heat sleeve??!! Thanks for any info!
You want to sponsor me ? 🤔 jaja I’m just kidding nice video. “not a power hunter” that’s why I follow your videos cause like you said I’d rather have fun with reliable power and not trying to go overboard with the car. I’m from Honduras (live in USA) so you got a follower from Central America.
Hey. I really enjoy your videos. I get so inspired. I bought a Grimmspeed tmic myself. I'm having an issue with the throttle body coupler sitting in and meeting together with the throttle body and the intercooler. It doesn't go all the way in and there is resistance. I can't clamp the coupler well if it doesn't sit. Do you run into this issue and do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the support! Put the coupler on the throttle body first then put the intercooler on. In the video I tried it that same way you did at first, but had trouble as well. Put the coupler on the TB and it went on much easier.
What made you want to jump to Stage 3? I have been researching the parts needed to hit Stage 3, but I have also been debating on whether I should keep building up my STI or return it to stock and wait for a type r.
Bang for the buck? Grimmspeed. Fmic you’ll need a tune which would make it more expensive to get it running properly. Honestly depends on what kind of driving you do. Track driving a front mount will definitely benefit as you’ll be getting a fresh supply of air constantly. The ets is a larger core, so take that into consideration. I personally have never tried or compared the two so I can’t say what cools better. For me, staying top mount was important to keep things as OEM as possible.
I am going to have my tuner look at some logs to see if everything looks good. I didn’t opt for the splitter as I wasn’t a fan of how it mounts to the tmic and not the hood.
Want to order this tmic but don’t want any issues . Do we need to get a tune ? My current mods are borla exhaust and Cobb intake stage 1 plus Cobb ots tune
It does not. Tmic don’t need tunes due to the stock location. They help when getting tuned overall, but you can throw one on without having to make any changes.
Personally, I got the black because I prefer the look. It definitely does help decrease the temp a bit, but it’s not going to be a night and day difference.
@@Autofreakgarage oh nice. Did you do a video on that? I saw your intercooler video. I’m from jersey also. Been following for a while. Love everything you been doing!

Awesome video Chris, good to have you on board representing the GrimmSpeed name so well!
Glad to be a part of the family!
Nice. Just threw my GS intercooler on last month. Great addition to the car. I got the GS intake, uppipe, and downpipe. *Brand loyalty*
Congrats on the sponsorship. So sick
Awesome Bro thats great. I would prefer a top mount so the radiator and oil cooler will get some cooler air. Also I think Grimmspeed has a stage 3 package for STI
Great! Grimmspeed needs more TH-cam to showcase their stuff.
Hey man, I just want to make sure you know that you got one "CLEAN" ass STi. The car is very dope. I'm loving the the new intercooler upgrade!
"Doesn't really happen to people like me." Disagree, it happens ONLY to people like you! Hard working people with quality production.
Big congrats. A much deserved sponsorship.
Nice, I wanted the coated version but couldn't justify paying the premium for it and just got the standard. Kinda regretting it now bc that looks so much better in black lol

@@Autofreakgarage 😂😂
That y-pipe tube is absolutely destroying me right now. 3 hours in.
It’s no fun haha. Make sure you take off the driver side IC bracket off. It gives a bit more room to get it back on.
Man I love the old intercooler, where did you buy the old STI intercooler from
The guard was from intertek fabrications. They don't make them anymore.

Now that grimmspeed is the sponsor of the channel, hopefully they work on a set of white engine dress up parts for the channel. Congratz!
i mean, its fine either way, but those silver bolts included are for the bypass valve, not the mounts
Ordered the same TMIC
FMIC is by far the better option except for the fact you remove the factory crash beam. If you ever get into an accident you are fucked when doing an insurance claim.
Thanks for making the video. The intercooler looks fantastic. Congrats! Looking forward to hearing the feedback from your tuner
Keep up the good work!! Congrats on the sponsorship!
Much deserved brother!!congrats 🍻

Great work. I love the finish. Jeff and I want to see you at NJMP this year!
Might have to take you guys up on that.

I can't confirm if the AEM will fit. Only one way to find out!
Just ordered the same TMIC. Good stuff!
$7.95?! That’s a steal!
Nice dude! Congrats! ...so no scoop boot modification since it's narrower? Not sure I like that.
There is one available but it mounts to the intercooler, not the hood.
Looks awesome bro, good choice with the black. Yeew!👌🏼
Always appreciate your videos!
Wow bro congratz on the sponser!!
Awesome, looks clean and subtle.🤘🏻
If you ain't first, you're last.
Love Grimm speed well done
Hey Chris, great job awesome looking , any chance you’re selling the cover that was on your old intercooler I’ve been waiting on back order for that one for a while
Haha I mention this in the video. I’m hanging onto it, so no plans to sell it.
LOL sorry about that I just listened to the rest of the video I got excited and didn’t finish the video you said you were holding onto it my bad
How do you keep your engine bay so clean? What products do you use?
Lots of detail videos on the channel. But nothing in particular. Just a wipe down after each wash.

yeah putting the ypipe inlet back on the turbo is the worst🤬

What made you want to jump to Stage 3? I have been researching the parts needed to hit Stage 3, but I have also been debating on whether I should keep building up my STI or return it to stock and wait for a type r.
I just want to build the perfect daily driven STI. I’m not in it for the power or numbers. Just to enjoy my ownership to the fullest.
Did you have any problems with heat soak w the oem intercooler? I live in Florida and it gets hot quick when there’s traffic.
No issues
Yo whats best bang for buck, tmic grimspeed or a fmic ets? Which does a better job for cooling compared to stock and by how much, thanks
Bang for the buck? Grimmspeed. Fmic you’ll need a tune which would make it more expensive to get it running properly.

You won’t run into any issues. With a tune, you’ll have the full benefit of the larger tmic, but you can run it without retuning if you want.
@@Autofreakgarage appreciated brother ! Your sti gives me inspiration to start modding mine . Lapisbluepearl gang 🤙
Is your intercooler grille with the STI logo for sale?
Not sure sale as I mentioned in the video.
Will having a grim speed top mount mess if having a Cobb access port?
It does not. Tmic don’t need tunes due to the stock location. They help when getting tuned overall, but you can throw one on without having to make any changes.
What’s your thoughts on the thermal coating I’ve heard it’s actually not any better
Personally, I got the black because I prefer the look. It definitely does help decrease the temp a bit, but it’s not going to be a night and day difference.
Car looks great btw nice and clean
Did you end up putting the splitter on it or did you not use that and like the look of just the intercooler in the engine bay
I didn’t like the fact that it mounts to the ic instead of the hood. I decided not to run it and I modified the stock hood scoop
@@Autofreakgarage oh nice. Did you do a video on that? I saw your intercooler video. I’m from jersey also. Been following for a while. Love everything you been doing!

@@Autofreakgarage Thanks again. I contacted your tuner also do so work on my Sti. I’m in ocean county so been looking for a new tuner
If i were to install a ETS TMIC and Grimspeed BPV would I need a tune?
No you do not, but would recommend getting one to optimize the mods.
@@Autofreakgarage So TMIC, BPV, and AWE Touring exhaust. Would you recommend the Cobb 2021 SUBARU WRX STI STAGE 1 MAP?
Absolutely
big time!
Do review on the tmic any reactions?
As mentioned in the video, I will be doing a review on the intercooler once I get appropriate seat time with it.
@@Autofreakgarage good morning bro, we wont be needing the hose that comes with the tmic since we have a aos correct?
That is correct. That hose is already re-routed with the aos.

No tune needed for a tmic
